brightness sensor can detect suf-

be switched on manually.

hicle is supplied to the customer.
To disarm or activate the function:

When the driver operates the pas-
s e n g e r e l e c t r i c w i n d o w c o n t r o l s ,
he must ensure that no one is pre-
v e n t i n g c o r r e c t c l o s i n g o f t h e w i n -
d o w s .
The driver must ensure that pas-
s e n g e r s u s e t h e e l e c t r i c w i n d o w s
correctly.

SPEED LIMITER
T h i s s p e e d l i m i t e r , o f t h e n e w g e n e r -
a t i o n , h a s a d i s p l a y o n t h e i n s t r u m e n t
panel to indicate the programmed
speed.
It prevents exceeding of the vehicle
speed programmed by the driver.
When the programmed speed is
r e a c h e d , p r e s s i n g t h e a c c e l e r a t o r
pedal no longer has any effect.
T h e l i m i t e r o p e r a t e s w i t h a p r o -
grammed speed of at least 18 mph
a p p r o x . ( 3 0 k m / h ) ; i t r e m a i n s a c t i v e
regardless of any action on the brake
and clutch pedals.
The operating actions must be
carried out:
- when stationary, with the
engine running,
or
- with the vehicle moving. The indicator light on the in-
strument panel comes on at
the same time.

When the speed limiter function is
a c t i v e , p r e s s i n g t h i s b u t t o n d i s p l a y s
the distance recorders.
A f t e r a f e w s e c o n d s o r w h e n t h i s b u t

turns to the speed limiter function.
Selecting the function
F Place the dial 1 in the LIMIT
position. The limiter is not yet
a c t i v e . B y d e f a u l t , t h e d i s p l a y

Press buttons 2 and 3 b r i e l y t o d e -
crease or increase by 1 mph (1 km/h).
An extended press decreases or
increases by 5 mph (5 km/h).
A maintained press decreases or
increases the programmed speed in
steps of 5 mph (5 km/h).
Activating/deactivating the limiter
Pressing button 4 once activates the

CRUISE CONTROL
T h i s c r u i s e c o n t r o l , o f t h e n e w g e n e r -
a t i o n , h a s a d i s p l a y o n t h e i n s t r u m e n t
panel to indicate the memorised ref-
erence speed.
It enables the vehicle to maintain a
steady speed programmed by the
driver.
In order for it to be memorised or ac-
t i v a t e d , t h e v e h i c l e s p e e d m u s t b e
greater than 24 mph approx. (40 km/h)
w i t h a t l e a s t f o u r t h g e a r e n g a g e d f o r
v e h i c l e s i t t e d w i t h a m a n u a l g e a r b o x .

g e a r b o x , t h e l e v e r m u s t b e i n p o s i t i o n D

DISTRIBUTION (EBFD)
T h e A B S , i n c o n j u n c t i o n w i t h t h e
e l e c t r o n i c b r a k e f o r c e d i s t r i b u t i o n ,
increases the stability and manoeu-
v r a b i l i t y o f y o u r v e h i c l e o n b r a k i n g ,
in particular on poor or slippery road
surfaces.
W h e n c h a n g i n g w h e e l s ( t y r e s a n d
r i m s ) , m a k e s u r e t h a t t h e s e a r e a p -
proved.
The anti-lock braking system comes
i n t o o p e r a t i o n a u t o m a t i c a l l y w h e n
t h e r e i s a r i s k o f w h e e l l o c k .
EMERGENCY BRAKING
ASSISTANCE SYSTEM
I n a n e m e r g e n c y , t h i s s y s t e m e n a -
bles the optimum braking pressure to
b e r e a c h e d m o r e q u i c k l y , t h u s r e d u c -
ing the stopping distance.
I t i s t r i g g e r e d b y t h e s p e e d a t w h i c h t h e
brake pedal is activated. The effect of
this is a reduction in the resistance of
the pedal and an increase in braking
e f i c i e n c y .
W h e n b r a k i n g i n a n e m e r g e n c y ,
p r e s s i r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g t h e
pressure.
Depending on the force of the decel-
e r a t i o n , t h e h a z a r d w a r n i n g l i g h t s a r e
s w i t c h e d o n a u t o m a t i c a l l y . T h e y a r e
s w i t c h e d o f f a u t o m a t i c a l l y o n a c c e l -
eration.
W h e n t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t
c o m e s o n , a c c o m p a n i e d b y
a b u z z e r a n d a m e s s a g e , i t
indicates that there is a mal-
f u n c t i o n o f t h e A B S , w h i c h c a n c a u s e
a l o s s o f c o n t r o l o f t h e v e h i c l e w h e n
braking. W h e n t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t
c o m e s o n , c o n n e c t e d t o t h e
STOP
w a r n i n g l i g h t , a c c o m -
panied by a buzzer and a
m e s s a g e , i t i n d i c a t e s t h a t t h e r e i s a
malfunction of the electronic brake
f o r c e d i s t r i b u t i o n , w h i c h c a n c a u s e
a l o s s o f c o n t r o l o f t h e v e h i c l e w h e n
braking.
Stop immediately.
I n b o t h c a s e s , c o n s u l t a P E U G E O T
dealer.
Normal operation of the ABS may
make itself felt by slight vibrations
of the brake pedal.
In emergency braking, press
v e r y i r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g t h e
pressure.

In exceptional conditions (starting a
v e h i c l e w h i c h i s b o g g e d d o w n , s t u c k
i n s n o w , o n s o f t g r o u n d ) , i t m a y b e
advisable to disarm the ASR and
E S P s y s t e m s , s o t h a t t h e w h e e l s c a n
move freely and regain grip.
F Press the "ESP OFF" s w i t c h ,
l o c a t e d u n d e r t h e s t e e r i n g w h e e l
to the right. Operating check
The ASR/ESP systems
offer exceptional safety
i n n o r m a l d r i v i n g , b u t t h i s
should not encourage the
driver to take extra risks or drive at
high speed.
The correct functioning of these
systems depends on observation
of the manufacturer's recommen-
d a t i o n s r e g a r d i n g w h e e l s ( t y r e s
a n d r i m s ) , t h e b r a k i n g c o m p o -
n e n t s , t h e e l e c t r o n i c c o m p o n e n t s
and the PEUGEOT assembly and
operation procedures.
A f t e r a n i m p a c t , h a v e t h e s y s t e m
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Operation of the ASR and ESP
systems T h e s w i t c h l i g h t s u p a n d t h e
w a r n i n g l i g h t c o m e s o n , a c

companied by a message
on the multifunction display:
the ASR and ESP systems are dis-
armed.
These are triggered again :
F automatically if the ignition is
s w i t c h e d o f f ,
F m a n u a l l y b y p r e s s i n g t h e s w i t c h
again. When a malfunction of the
s y s t e m s o c c u r s , t h e s w i t c h
l i g h t l a s h e s a n d t h e w a r n i n g
light comes on.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have
the systems checked.
T h e w a r n i n g l i g h t l a s h e s i f
the ASR or ESP is activated.
Activation of the ASR and ESP
systems
W h e n t h e i g n i t i o n i s o n , t h e A S R a n d
E S P s y s t e m s a r e a l w a y s a c t i v e .
These systems are linked and com-
plement the ABS.
The ASR system optimises drive to
p r e v e n t t h e w h e e l s s k i d d i n g , b y a c t
-
i n g o n t h e b r a k e s o f t h e d r i v e w h e e l s
a n d o n t h e e n g i n e . I t a l s o a l l o w s t h e
directional stability of the vehicle to
be improved on acceleration.
I f t h e r e i s a v a r i a t i o n b e t w e e n t h e t r a -
j e c t o r y f o l l o w e d b y t h e v e h i c l e a n d
t h a t r e q u i r e d b y t h e d r i v e r , t h e E S P
system automatically acts on the en-
gine and the brake of one or more
w h e e l s , i n o r d e r t o p u t t h e v e h i c l e
b a c k o n c o u r s e , w i t h i n t h e l i m i t s o f
t h e l a w s o f p h y s i c s .
