The air conditioning can only operate when the engine is running.
The air conditioning does not ope-

control is in the "OFF" position.
1. Air conditioning On/Off
The air conditioning is designed to
operate effectively in all seasons,
with the windows closed. In summer,
it permits lowering of the temperature
a n d i n w i n t e r , a b o v e 0 ° C , i t i n c r e a s e s
the effectiveness of the demisting. 2. Temperature adjustment

Press the "AUTO" b u t t o n .
We recommend that you use
this mode: it provides opti-
mised automatic control of
all of the functions, passenger com-
p a r t m e n t t e m p e r a t u r e , a i r fl o w , a i r
d i s t r i b u t i o n a n d a i r r e c i r c u l a t i o n , i n
accordance with the comfort value
that you have chosen. This system is
designed to operate effectively in all
seasons, with the windows closed.
Note: for your comfort, the values set
when the engine is switched off are re-
tained on re-starting if the temperature
in the passenger compartment has not
c h a n g e d s i g n i fi c a n t l y ; o t h e r w i s e , o p e -
ration resumes in automatic mode.
Manual operation
If you wish, you can make a different
c h o i c e f r o m t h a t o f f e r e d b y t h e s y s -
t e m b y c h a n g i n g a s e t t i n g . T h e o t h e r
f u n c t i o n s w i l l s t i l l b e c o n t r o l l e d a u t o -
matically.
Pressing the AUTO b u t t o n r e t u r n s
the system to completely automatic
operation.
1. Temperature adjustment
The value indicated on the
display corresponds to a
level of comfort and not to
a temperature in degrees
Celsius or Fahrenheit.
Press the arrows 1 (up and down) to
change this value. A setting around
2 1 e n a b l e s a c o m f o r t a b l e t e m p e r a -
t u r e t o b e o b t a i n e d . When the engine is cold, to
prevent too great a distri-
b u t i o n o f c o l d a i r , t h e v e n -
tilation will only reach its
optimum level gradually.
On entering the vehicle, if the interior
temperature is much colder or warmer
t h a n i s c o m f o r t a b l e , t h e r e i s n o n e e d
to change the value displayed in
o r d e r t o r e a c h t h e r e q u i r e d l e v e l o f
comfort. The system eliminates the
temperature difference automatically
a n d a s q u i c k l y a s p o s s i b l e .

ELECTRONIC ENGINE IMMOBILISER
This locks the engine control sys-
t e m a s s o o n a s t h e i g n i t i o n h a s b e e n
switched off and therefore prevents
starting of the vehicle by anyone who
does not have the key.
The ignition key has an electronic
chip which has a special code. When
the ignition is switched on, the code
m u s t b e r e c o g n i s e d f o r s t a r t i n g t o b e
possible.
If the system does not function
correctly, the central locking button
indicator light, situated in the centre
o f t h e f a s c i a , fl a s h e s r a p i d l y w h e n t h e
ignition is switched on (2nd notch).
In this case your vehicle will not
start.

as possible. Make a careful note of the
n u m b e r o f e a c h k e y . T h i s
n u m b e r i s c o d e d o n t h e l a -
bel attached to the key.

while it is in your pocket as there is a
p o s s i b i l i t y t h a t i t m a y u n l o c k t h e v e -
hicle, without you being aware of it.

when the key is in the ignition, even

"Boot open" warning
When the engine is running , if the
boot is not closed correctly you are
warned by an audible signal.
When the vehicle is moving , if the
boot is not closed correctly the cour-
t e s y l i g h t fl a s h e s i f i t s b u t t o n i s i n t h i s
position.
OPENING THE BOOT
To open the boot, press the lock.
The lighting is activated on open-
ing the boot.
With the key
Lock the boot by turning the key in
t h e l o c k ( f r o m A to C ).
U n l o c k t h e b o o t b y t u r n i n g t h e k e y i n
t h e l o c k ( f r o m A to B ).
With the central locking
Locking and unlocking of the boot is
s i m u l t a n e o u s w i t h t h e d o o r s .

OPENING THE BONNET
Inside the vehicle: pull the handle on
the left-hand side, under the fascia.
BONNET STRUT
Secure the strut to hold the bonnet
open.
Before closing the bonnet, replace
the strut in its housing.
FILLING THE FUEL TANK
T h e t a n k m u s t b e fi l l e d w i t h f u e l w i t h
the engine switched off .
Insert the key then turn it to the left.
R e m o v e t h e c a p .
A label indicates which type of fuel to
use.
I f y o u fi l l y o u r t a n k , d o n o t c o n t i n u e
a f t e r t h e t h i r d c u t - o f f o f t h e p u m p
nozzle. This could result in vehicle
m a l f u n c t i o n s .
The capacity of the tank is approxi-
mately 50 litres.
To close
Lower the bonnet and release it at
the end of its travel.
Check that the bonnet is locked.
Outside the vehicle: lift the catch
and raise the bonnet.

This switch enables the rear windows
to be locked whatever their position.
A 1st press activates the control (the
indicator light on the button comes on)
and a 2nd press deactivates it (the in-
dicator light on the button goes out).

Always remove the key
from the ignition when
leaving the vehicle, even
for a short time.
If an obstacle is detected when
operating the electric windows,
you must reverse the movement
of the window. To do this, press
the control concerned.
When the driver operates the pas-
senger electric window controls,
he must ensure that no one is pre-
venting correct closing of the win-
dows.
The driver must ensure that pas-
sengers use the electric windows
correctly.
Be aware of children when operat-
ing the windows.

window stops as soon as the

'PORSCHE TIPTRONIC SYSTEM' AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
The four speed automatic gearbox
offers a choice between the comfort
of integral automatic operation , en-
hanced by a sport and a snow pro-
gramme, or manual gear changing . Gear selection gate
Move the lever in the gate to se-
lect a position.
The indicator light corresponding to the position selected appears
on the instrument panel screen.
P ark: to immobilise the vehicle and
to start the engine , with the hand-
brake on or off.
R everse: to reverse (select this
position with the vehicle stationary,
engine at idle).
N eutral: to start the engine and to
park , with the handbrake on.
If position N is inadvertently engaged
while driving, allow the engine to re-
turn to idle before engaging position
D to accelerate.
D rive: for driving in automatic mode.
M anual: for selection of gears.
S : sport programme.
: snow programme. Moving Off
With the engine running, to move off
from position
P :
it is essential to press the brake
pedal to exit position P ,
select position R, D or M , then
gradually release the pressure
on the brake pedal; the vehicle
moves off immediately.
You can also move off from position N :
release the handbrake, with your
foot on the brake,
select position R, D or M , then
gradually release the pressure
on the brake pedal; the vehicle
moves off immediately.
Starting the engine
with the handbrake on, select po-
sition P or N in the gate,
turn the ignition key to the Start
position.
WARNING
When the engine is at idle, brakes not
applied, if position R, D or M is se-
lected, the vehicle moves even with-
out the accelerator being pressed.
For this reason, do not leave chil-
dren unsupervised inside the
vehicle, with the engine running.
When maintenance operations need
to be carried out with the engine run-
ning, apply the handbrake and select
position P .

Automatic operation
Automatic changing of the four
gears:
select position D in the gate.
The gearbox always selects the most
suitable gear according to the follow-
ing parameters:
- t h e r o a d p r o fi l e ,
- the vehicle load.
The gearbox is then operating in
auto-adaptive mode, without any ac-
tion on your part. If you take your foot off the accel-
erator suddenly, the gearbox will not
change to a higher gear for reasons
of safety.
Manual operation
Manual changing of the four gears:
select position M in the gate,
push the lever to the + sign to
change to a higher gear,
pull the lever to the - sign to
change to a lower gear.
You can change from position D
(driving in automatic mode) to posi-
tion M (driving in manual mode) at
any time.
WARNING
Never select position N when the ve-
hicle is moving.
Never select positions P or R unless
the vehicle is stationary.
Never change between positions to
optimise braking on a slippery sur-
face.
Notes
For immediate maximum accelera-
tion without touching the gear lever,
press the accelerator pedal down as
far as it will go (kickdown). The gear-
box will automatically change down
or maintain the gear selected until
maximum engine speed is reached.
When the brake is applied, the gear-
box will automatically change down
i n o r d e r t o p r o v i d e e f fi c i e n t e n g i n e
braking. Sport and snow programmes
In addition to the auto-adaptive
programme, there are two special
programmes.
The programme is displayed on the
instrument panel screen.
Sport programme
Press button S once the engine
has been started.
The gearbox automatically favours
sporty driving and more dynamic ac-
celeration.
Snow programme
This programme improves starting
and drive when traction is poor.
Press button once the engine
has been started.
The gearbox adapts to driving on
slippery roads.
Notes
It is only possible to change from one
gear to another if the vehicle speed
and engine speed permit. If they do
not, the vehicle will operate tempo-
rarily in automatic mode.
When the vehicle is stationary or
moving very slowly, the gearbox au-
tomatically selects gear M1 .
Programmes S (sport) and (snow)
do not operate in manual mode.
Note: you can return to the auto-
adaptive programme at any time.
Press button S or again to switch
off the programme you are in.
