Front air bags
Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resting your hands on
the centre part of the wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet on the fascia.
Smoke as little as possible as deployment of the air bags can ca use burns or
t h e r i s k o f i n j u r y f r o m a c i g a r e t t e o r p i p e .
Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently.
Side air bags *
O n l y p u t a p p r o v e d c o v e r s o n t h e s e a t s . T h e s e w i l l n o t h i n d e r t h e i n fl a t i o n o f t h e
side air bags. Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
D o n o t fi x o r g l u e a n y t h i n g t o t h e s e a t b a c k s . T h i s c o u l d c a u s e i n j u r y t o t h e
c h e s t o r a r m s w h e n t h e s i d e a i r b a g i n fl a t e s .
Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nea rer to the door than necessary.
Curtain air bags *
D o n o t fi x o r g l u e a n y t h i n g t o t h e r o o f . T h i s c o u l d c a u s e i n j u r y t o t h e h e a d w h e n
t h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n fl a t e s .
Do not remove the grab handles installed on the ro of, they play a part in securing
the curtain air bags.

For the air bags to be fully
effective, observe the following
safety rules:
Sit in a normal upright position.
W e a r a c o r r e c t l y a d j u s t e d s e a t b e l t .
Do not leave anything between the
occupants and the air bags (a child,
p e t , o b j e c t . . . ) . T h i s c o u l d h a m p e r t h e
o p e r a t i o n o f t h e a i r b a g s o r i n j u r e t h e
occupants.
After an accident or if the vehicle has
been stolen or broken into, have the
air bag systems checked.
All work on the air bag system is strict-
ly forbidden unless it is carried out by
q u a l i fi e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e P E U G E O T
network.
Even if all of the precautions men-
tioned above are observed, a risk of in-
j u r y o r o f s l i g h t b u r n s t o t h e h e a d , c h e s t
or arms when an air bag is triggered
cannot be ruled out. In fact, the bag
i n fl a t e s a l m o s t i n s t a n t l y ( w i t h i n a f e w
m i l l i s e c o n d s ) t h e n d e fl a t e s w i t h i n t h e
same time discharging hot gas via the
openings provided for this purpose.

BONNET
Protects the components of the engine and provides access for checking levels.
Push the exterior control B to the left and raise the bonnet.
Unclip the strut C from its housing.
Fix the strut in one of the two notchesto hold the bonnet open.
Closing
Take the strut out of the support notch.
Clip the strut in its housing.
Lower the bonnet and release it at the end of its travel.
Pull on the bonnet to check that it is secured correctly.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL
(DIESEL)
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a n H D I engine, the fuel circuit must be reprimed if you run out of fuel (refer to the corre-sponding graphic).
This system consists of a repriming pump and a transparent pipe.
Opening
Open the front left door.
Pull the interior control A , located at the bottom of the door frame.
1.4 litre Turbo HDI engine
Open the bonnet.
F i l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel.
Squeeze and release the repriming pump until fuel appears in the trans-parent pipe.
Operate the starter until the engine starts.
Close the bonnet.
1.6 litre Turbo HDI 16V engine
Open the bonnet.
F i l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel.
Unclip the style cover to gain access to the repriming pump.
Squeeze and release the repriming pump until fuel appears in the trans-parent pipe with the green connector.
Operate the starter until the engine starts.
Put the style cover back in position and clip it in place.
Close the bonnet.

Access to the spare wheel
(Saloon)
The spare wheel is installed in the boot
u n d e r t h e fl o o r .
To gain access to it, refer to the paragraph
"Access to the tools" on the previous
page. Fixing the steel spare wheel
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a l -
loy wheels, it is normal to notice,
w h e n t i g h t e n i n g t h e b o l t s o n fi t t i n g ,
that the washers do not come into
contact with the steel spare wheel.
The wheel is secured by the coni-
cal contact of each bolt. Taking out the wheel
Unscrew the yellow central bolt.
Raise the spare wheel towards you
from the rear.
Take the wheel out of the boot.
Putting the wheel back in place
Put the wheel back in its housing.
Unscrew the yellow central bolt by a
few turns then put it in place in the
centre of the wheel.
Tighten fully until the central bolt
clicks to retain the wheel correctly.

Access to the spare wheel (SW)
The spare wheel is installed in the boot
u n d e r t h e fl o o r .
To gain access to it, refer to the para-
graph "Access to the tools". Fixing the steel spare wheel
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a l -
loy wheels, it is normal to notice,
w h e n t i g h t e n i n g t h e b o l t s o n fi t t i n g ,
that the washers do not come into
contact with the steel spare wheel.

BATTERY
Procedure for charging your battery

Connect the red cable to the posi-
t i v e t e r m i n a l ( + ) o f t h e fl a t b a t t e r y A ,

the slave battery B .
Connect one end of the green or
black cable to the negative terminal
( - ) o f t h e s l a v e b a t t e r y B .
Connect the other end of the green
or black cable to an earth point C on
the broken down vehicle, as far as
p o s s i b l e f r o m t h e b a t t e r y ( f o r e x a m -
p l e , r i g h t - h a n d e n g i n e m o u n t i n g ) .
Operate the starter, let the engine
run.
Wait until the engine returns to idle
and disconnect the cables.
The battery is located under the bonnet
on the left.
T o g a i n a c c e s s t o i t :
open the bonnet using the interior
l e v e r , t h e n t h e e x t e r i o r l e v e r ,
secure the bonnet strut,
remove the plastic cover to gain ac-
cess to the two terminals.

TOWING THE VEHICLE
Procedure for having your vehicle towed or for towing another vehicle using a removable towing eye.
Access to the tools Towing your vehicle
On the front bumper, unclip the cover by pressing at the bottom.
Screw the towing eye in fully.
Install the towbar.
Switch on the hazard warning lights on the towed vehicle.
On the rear bumper, unclip the cover by pressing at the bottom.
Screw the towing eye in fully.
Install the towbar.
Switch on the hazard warning lights on the towed vehicle.
Towing another vehicle
The towing eye is installed in the boot u n d e r t h e fl o o r .
T o g a i n a c c e s s t o i t :
open the boot,
r a i s e t h e fl o o r ,
secure it by hooking its cord on the hook on the shelf support,
remove the towing eye from the holder.
