Welcome
Thank you for choosing a Peugeot 301.
This document presents the information and recommendations required
for you to be able to explore your vehicle in detail and in complete
safety.
Your vehicle will be fitted with only some of the equipment described in
this document, depending on its trim level, version and the specification
for the country in which it was sold.
The descriptions and illustrations are given as indications only.
Automobiles PEUGEOT reser ves the right to modify the technical
characteristics, equipment and accessories without having to update
this edition of the guide.
If ownership of your vehicle is transferred, please ensure this Complete
Handbook is passed on to the new owner. In this document, you will find all of the instructions and
recommendations on the use that will allow you to enjoy your vehicle
to the fullest. It is strongly recommended that you familiarise yourself
with it as well as the Warranty and Maintenance Record which will
provide you with information about warranties, ser vicing and roadside
assistance associated with your vehicle.

Warning and indicator lamps
Visual identifiers informing the driver that
a system is in operation, switched off (on/
off indicator lamps) or has developed a fault
(warning lamp).
When the ignition is switched on
Certain warning lamps come on for a few
seconds when the vehicle's ignition is switched
on.
When the engine is started, these same
warning lamps should go off.
If they remain on, before driving refer to the
information on the warning lamp concerned.
Associated warnings
Certain warning lamps may come on in one of
two modes: fixed (continuous) or flashing.
Only by relating the type of lighting to the
operating status of the vehicle can it be
ascertained whether the situation is normal or
whether a fault has occurred.
In the event of a fault, the illumination of the
warning lamp may be accompanied by an
audible signal and/or a message.
Warning lamps
When the engine is running or the vehicle is
being driven, illumination of one of the following
warning lamps indicates a fault which requires
action on the part of the driver.
Any fault resulting in the illumination of a
warning lamp must be investigated further
using the associated message.
If you encounter any problems, contact a
PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.
Operation indicator lamps
If one of the following indicator lamps comes on,
this confirms that the corresponding system is on.
Deactivation indicator lamps
If one of the following indicator lamps comes on,
this confirms that the corresponding system has
been switched off intentionally.
This may be accompanied by an audible signal
and a message being displayed.

Warning/indicator lampStateCause Action/Observations
STOP Fixed, associated
with another warning
lamp. It is associated with the engine
oil pressure or the engine coolant
temperature. You must stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
Park, switch off the ignition and call a PEUGEOT
dealer or a qualified workshop.
Parking brake Fixed. The parking brake is applied or not
properly released. Release the parking brake to extinguish the warning
lamp; keep your foot on the brake pedal.
Observe the safety recommendations.

Brakes Fixed. The brake fluid level has dropped
significantly. You must stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
Top up with brake fluid approved by PEUGEOT.
If the problem persists, have the system checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop.
Fixed, associated
with the ABS warning
lamp. The electronic brake force
distribution (EBFD) system has a
fault. You must stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified
workshop.
Driver's seat belt
not fastened or
unfastened/Front
passenger's seat
belt unfastenedFixed or flashing,
accompanied by an
increasing audible
signal.The driver has not fastened or has
unfastened his/her seat belt.
The front passenger has unfastened
his/her seat belt. Pull the strap then insert the tongue in the buckle.

Door(s) open/
Boot openFixed, if the speed is
below 6 mph (10 km/h).A door or the electric opening boot is
still open. Close the door or boot.
Fixed, accompanied by an
audible signal if the speed
is above 6
mph (10 km/h).
Engine fault Fixed red. The engine has a major fault causing
a breakdown. You must stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
Park, switch off the ignition and call a PEUGEOT
dealer or a qualified workshop.
Battery charge
Fixed. The battery charging circuit has a
fault (dirty or loose terminals, slack
or cut alternator belt etc.). The warning lamp should go off when the engine is
started.
If it does not go off, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a
qualified workshop.
Engine oil
pressure Fixed.
There is a fault with the engine
lubrication system. You must stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
Park, switch off the ignition and contact a PEUGEOT
dealer or a qualified workshop.
Maximum
coolant
temperature Fixed red.
The temperature of the cooling
system is too high. Stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
Wait until the engine has cooled down before topping
up to the required level, if necessary.
If the problem persists, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or
a qualified workshop.

Engine fault Fixed orange. The engine has a minor fault. Contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop

Low fuel level Fixed. When it first comes on, around

litres of fuel remain in the tank.You must top up as soon as possible to avoid running
out of fuel.
This warning lamp will come on every time the ignition
is switched on, until sufficient fuel is added.
Fuel tank capacity: approximately 50
litres.
Never continue to drive until you run out of fuel as
this could damage the emission control and injection
systems.
Engine self-
diagnostic
system Fixed.
The emission control system has a
fault.
The warning lamp should go off when the engine is started.
If it does not go off, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a
qualified workshop without delay.
Flashing.The engine management system has
a fault.There is a risk that the catalytic converter will be destroyed.
Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a
qualified workshop.
Diesel engine
pre-heatingFixed.
The key is at position 2 (ignition on)
in the ignition switch. Wait until the warning lamp goes off before starting.
The period of illumination of the warning lamp is
determined by the climatic conditions (up to about
thirty seconds in extreme conditions).
If the engine does not start, switch the ignition off and
then on, wait until the indicator lamp goes off again,
then start the engine.

Under-inflationFixed, accompanied
by an audible signal
and a message. One or more wheels has insufficient
pressure.
Check the pressure of the tyres as soon as possible.
This check should preferably be carried out when the
tyres are cold.
You must reinitialise the system after adjusting one or
more tyre pressures and after changing one or more
wheels.

Flashing then fixed,
accompanied by
the Ser vice warning
lamp. The system is faulty: tyre pressures
are no longer monitored.
Check the tyre pressures as soon as possible.
Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a
qualified workshop.
Anti-lock
Braking System
(ABS) Fixed.
The anti-lock braking system has a
fault. The vehicle retains conventional braking.
Drive carefully at reduced speed and contact a
PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified workshop without
d e l ay.
Airbags Temporarily on. This warning lamp comes on for a
few seconds when you turn on the
ignition, then goes off.
This warning lamp should go off when the engine is started.
If it does not go off, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a
qualified workshop.
Fixed.One of the airbag or seat belt
pyrotechnic pretensioner systems
has a fault. Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified
workshop.

Passenger's
airbag system Fixed.
The control switch, located in
the glove box, is set to the " OFF"
position.
The passenger's front airbag is
deactivated.
You can install a "rearward facing"
child seat, unless there is a fault with
the airbags (airbag warning lamp on). To activate the passenger front airbag, turn the
control to the "
ON" position.
In this case, do not fit a child seat in the "rear ward
facing" position.
Dynamic
stability control
(DSC/ASR) Fixed.
The button, located at the bottom
left of the dashboard, is pressed. Its
indicator lamp comes on.
The DSC/ASR is deactivated.
DSC: dynamic stability control.
ASR: anti-slip regulation. Press the button to activate the DSC/ASR. Its
indicator lamp goes off.
The DSC/ASR system is activated automatically when
the vehicle is started.
If the system is deactivated, it is reactivated
automatically once a speed of around 30
mph
(50
km/h) is reached.
Fixed. The button, located at the bottom
left of the dashboard, has not been
pressed.
Its indicator lamp is off.
The DSC/ASR system has a fault. Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a
qualified workshop.
Flashing. The DSC/ASR regulation is
operating. The system optimises traction and improves the
directional stability of the vehicle in the event of loss
of grip or trajectory.
Power steering Fixed. The power steering has a fault. Drive carefully at reduced speed.
Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualified
workshop.
