REAR SEATS
To fold down the rear left seat (2/3 part) or the right seat (1/3 part),always start with the seat, neverwith the seat back (risk of damage):
Ð move the front seat(s) forward ifnecessary,
Ð lift the front of the seat 1,
Ð tilt the seat 1against the front
seat(s),
Ð check that the seat belt is correctly positioned on the side of the seat back,
Ð pull control 2forwards to unlock
the seat back 3,
Ð place the head restraints in the low position,
Ð fold down the seat back 3.

Rear armrest*
- Lower the armrest to access thestorage shelf on the seat back.
- Lift the lid. It contains a storage tray as well as two cup holders and two pen holders.

When repositioning:
Ð fold up the seat back and lock it (the red marker of control 2should
no longer be visible),
Ð fold up the seat.
Take care not to trap the seat belts.

''Isofix''mountings Available on the two side rear seats,
and as an accessory on the front passenger seat*, the Isofix moun-tings allow for fitting of a special
child seat , approved by UTAC for
PEUGEOT vehicles and sold by
PEUGEOT dealers. The locks incorporated in the child seat fit onto the Isofix mountings andensure safe, reliable and fast assem-
bly. In the front
, the child seat must be
fitted:
- either in the "rear facing" position for children weighing between
3 and 11 kg front seat as far for-
ward as possible so that the body
of the child seat is in contact withor as close as possible to the ins-
trument panel. This position thuslimits movement of the child seat inthe event of an accident.
- or exceptionally the child seat may be fitted in the 'forwards facing'position if the rear seats are alrea-dy occupied by other children or ifthe rear seats cannot be used (notpresent, folded). In this case, usethe Isofix mountings, the restrai-ning cushion and the seat belt andadjust the front passenger seat tothe "mid-travel" position.
In both cases it is imperative todisarm the passenger air bag. In the rear , the child seat may be fit-
ted in the "rear facing" or "forwards facing" position. In this case the
front seat is in the intermediatelongitudinal position, seat backupright .
The combined use of the Isofixmountings, the restraining cushionand the seat belt is compulsory for aseat fitted "facing forward".

The special child seat, approved by
PEUGEOT, is the Isofix KIDDY seat.It can be used "rear facing" from 3 to
11 kg and "forwards facing" from 9 to18 kg. This seat can also be used on seats not fitted with Isofix mountings:buckling of the three-point seat belt
is then compulsory. Follow the instructions for fitting the child seat given in the instruc-tion booklet. * During 2001.

Never leave a child or an animal in a vehicle whichis exposed to the sunwiththe windows closed.
Never leave the keys within reach
of children inside the car. Strap children into their seats even on short journeys. Observe the precautions regar- ding the passenger air bag. Observe the fitting and fastening recommendations, indicated in
the child seat instructions, strictly.

From 3 to 10 years (33 to 80 lbs or 15 to 36 kg) "Recaro Start": is fitted in the rear with the three-point seat belt. The height, depth and length of the seat must be adjusted in line with the age and size of your child. "Klippan Optima" : is fitted in the rear with a three-point seat belt. Above 6 years (approximately 45 lbs or 22 kg).
Remember, even for short journeys, to fasten the three-point seat belts or the child seat straps, keeping the slack in relation to the child's body to a minimum.
To prevent the doors from opening accidentally, use the ''child-proof'' lock. Also, do not open the rear windows more than a third.

SEAT BELTS
To adjust the height of the front seat belts To lower the attachment point, squeeze control 1and slide it
downwards.
To raise the attachment point,squeeze control 1and slide it
upwards.
To lock the seat belts Pull the strap, then insert the buckle into the stalk. Pre-tensioning and force- limiting front seat belts* Safety in the event of a frontal impact has been improved by the introduc-tion of pre-tensioning and force-limi-ting front seat belts. Depending onthe seriousness of the impact, thepre-tensioning system instantly tigh-tens the seat belt firmly against thebody of the occupant. The pre-tensioning seat belts are armed when the ignition is on. The force-limiting device reduces the pressure of the seat belt against thebody of the occupant in the event ofan accident. Rear seat belts The three rear seats are all fitted with three-point inertia reel seat belts.The side seats are fitted with force-limiting devices.
To be effective, a seat beltmust be tightened asclose to the body as pos-sible.
Depending on the nature and theseriousness of the impact, thepre-tensioners may be triggeredbefore and independently of theair bags. In all cases of an air bag being triggered, the air bag warning lighton the instrument panel comeson. After an impact, have the system
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer. The system has been designed to be fully operational for ten years. Have it replaced after this period.

THE KEYS The keys allow you to switch on the ignition and to independently opera-te the locks on the front doors, thefuel filler cap, the glove box and thepassenger air bag disarming switch. Central locking
From the driver's door, the keys allow you to lock, deadlock* or unlock thedoors and tailgate, as well as fold backthe exterior mirrors*. If one of the doors or the boot is open, the central locking does not work; ableep indicates this when locking byremote control. The remote control performs the same functions at a distance.The remote control LockingPress button
Ato lock the vehicle.
This is confirmed by fixed lighting of the direction indicators for approxi-mately two seconds. Note : a long press on button A, in
addition to locking, automatically closes the windows* and the sun-roof*.
Vehicles fitted with deadlocking*
Warning: deadlocking* renders the
internal and external door locking controls inoperative. Pressing button Adeadlocks the
vehicle. This is confirmed by fixed lighting of the direction indicators forapproximately two seconds. Note: a long press on button Aper-
mits automatic closing of the win- dows* and the sunroof*, in additionto deadlocking.
A second press on button Awithin
five seconds of deadlocking changes
this to normal locking. This is confir-med by fixed lighting of the directionindicators for two seconds, followedby a brief sound from the horn.

Unlocking Press button Bto unlock the vehicle
This is confirmed by rapid flashing of the direction indicators. Note: if the vehicle is locked and
unlocking is activated inadvertently without the doors being openedwithin 30 seconds, the vehicle will
lock automatically. Do not repeatedly press the buttons of your remote control out of range
of your vehicle. You risk causing itnot to work and the remote controlwould have to be reprogrammed. Locating your car
To locate your car, if you have loc- ked it, in a car park: press button A(the courtesy
lights come on and the direction indicators flash for a fewseconds).

Confidential card The confidential card contains the identification code necessary for anywork carried out by a PEUGEOT
dealer on the system. This code ishidden by a film which should be
removed only if necessary. Keep your card in a safe place, never inside the vehicle. Key in ignition
A buzzer sounds on opening the dri-
ver's door, if the key has been left inthe ignition.Changing the battery of the remote control The information
"battery flat"is given
by an audible signal accompanied by the message "Remote control batte-
ry low" on the multifunction display.
To replace the battery, remove the boltthen unclip the casing using a coin atthe ring (CR2016/3 volt battery). If the remote control does not work after the battery has been changed,reprogramme the remote control. Programming the remote control Switch off the ignition.
Switch the ignition on again.
Immediately press button A.
Switch off the ignition and remo- ve the remote control key from
the ignition lock. The remotecontrol is now working again.

Electronic engine immobiliser This locks the engine control system as soon as the ignition has been
switched off and therefore preventsstarting of the vehicle by anyone who
does not have the key. The ignition key has an electronic chip which has a special code.When the ignition is switched on, thecode is recognised and starting ispossible. If the system does not function correctly , the central locking button
indicator light, situated in the centreof the instrument panel, flashesrapidly when the ignition is switched
on (2nd notch on the ignition key,accompanied by an audible signaland the message "Anti-theft device
faulty" on the multifunction display.
WARNING: your vehicle is no longer
protected in this event. Contact a
PEUGEOT dealer as soon as pos-sible.

Make a careful note of the number on each key. The key number is coded on the label attached to the key. If the key is lost, your PEUGEOT dealer can rapidly supply you with new keys. The high-frequency remote control is a high-performance system.Do not operate it while it is in your pocket as there is a possibility that it may unlock your vehicle without your
knowledge.The remote control cannot operate if the key is in the ignition, even if the ignition is switched off, except for reprogram- ming. Do not operate the deadlock if there is someone inside the vehicle.As a safety measure (when there are children on board), remove the ignition key when leaving the vehicle, even for a short time.
Do not handle the buttons of your remote control when out of range of your vehicle. You run the risk of stopping it from working. It would then be necessary to reprogramme the remote control. When buying a second-hand car:
- Ensure that you are given the confidential card;
- have the key codes memorised by a PEUGEOT dealer, to ensure that the keys in your possession are the only ones that can start your vehicle.
Do not make any modifications to the electronic engine immobiliser system.

THE ALARM* This provides two types of protec- tion: Ðexterior protection: when this is
set, the alarm sounds if a door, the boot or the bonnet is opened.
Ð interior protection: when this is
set, the alarm sounds if the sen-sors detect a variation in the airmovement inside the vehicle(breaking of a window or move-ment inside the vehicle).
Setting the alarm Switch off the ignition and get out of the vehicle.
Set the alarm within five minutesof getting out of the vehicle, bylocking or deadlocking using theremote control (button Aindica-
tor light flashes once persecond).
Note: if you wish to lock your vehicle
without setting the alarm, use thedoor lock. When the alarm is triggered, thesiren sounds and the direction indi-cators flash for thirty seconds. After triggering, the alarm remains set.
Warning:
if the alarm has been trig-
gered ten times in succession, on the eleventh time it becomes inactive. Note: if button Aflashes rapidly, the
alarm has been triggered while you
were away from your car. Disarming Unlock the vehicle with the remote control key (button Aindicator light
goes out). Note: if the alarm has been triggered
while you were away from your car, the rapid flashing of the indicatorlight will stop when you switch on theignition.
To set the alarm with exterior protection only If, while you are away from the vehicle, you wish to leave a windowpartially open or a pet inside thevehicle, you should choose exterior
protection only. Switch off the ignition.
In the next ten seconds, press button Auntil the indicator light
is on continuously.
Get out of the vehicle.
Set the alarm by locking or dead-locking using the remote control(button Aindicator light flashes
once a second).
Note: when the alarm is set but the
remote control does not operate: Unlock the doors with the key
and open the door. The alarm istriggered.
Switch on the ignition in the next
ten seconds. The alarm is disarmed.
Incorrect operation When the ignition is switched on, if button Alights for ten seconds, there
is a fault in the siren connection.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have the system checked. Automatic activation** The alarm is activated automatically two minutes after the last opening(door or boot) is closed. In order to avoid accidental triggering of the alarm when a door or the bootis opened, it is essential to first pressthe remote control opening button.
