Seat belt unfastened/not
fastened warning light
When the ignition is
s w i t c h e d o n , t h e l i g h t c o m e s
on if the driver has not fastened his
seat belt.
With the engine running and the
d o o r s c l o s e d , t h e l i g h t g o e s o u t a u t o -
matically after 30 seconds.
I f t h e s e a t b e l t i s u n f a s t e n e d :
- b e l o w 1 2 m p h ( 2 0 k m / h ) , t h e l i g h t comes on constantly, - a b o v e 1 2 m p h ( 2 0 k m / h ) a n d f o r
t w o m i n u t e s , t h e l i g h t l a s h e s a c -
c o m p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l
of increasing volume. Once these
t w o m i n u t e s h a v e e l a p s e d , t h e
light remains on until the driver
fastens his seat belt.

T h e t y r e u n d e r - i n l a t i o n d e t e c -
tion system is an aid to driving
w h i c h d o e s n o t r e p l a c e t h e n e e d
for the driver to be vigilant or to
d r i v e r e s p o n s i b l y .
This system does not eliminate
t h e n e e d t o h a v e t h e t y r e p r e s -
sure checked regularly (see
manufacturer's label on the door
p i l l a r ) t o e n s u r e t h a t t h e o p t i -
m u m d y n a m i c p e r f o r m a n c e o f
the vehicle is maintained and
p r e v e n t p r e m a t u r e w e a r o f t h e
t y r e s , p a r t i c u l a r l y i n a r d u o u s
driving conditions (heavy load,
h i g h s p e e d ) .
T h e t y r e p r e s s u r e s m u s t b e
checked cold, at least once a
month. Remember to check the

T h e A B S , i n c o n j u n c t i o n w i t h t h e
electronic brake force distribution,
i n c r e a s e s t h e s t a b i l i t y a n d m a n o e u -
vrability of your vehicle on braking,
i n p a r t i c u l a r o n p o o r o r s l i p p e r y r o a d
surfaces.
Note: w h e n c h a n g i n g w h e e l s ( t y r e s
and rims), make sure that these are
a p p r o v e d .
T h e a n t i - l o c k b r a k i n g s y s t e m c o m e s
i n t o o p e r a t i o n a u t o m a t i c a l l y w h e n
t h e r e i s a r i s k o f w h e e l l o c k . Stop immediately.
In both cases, consult a PEUGEOT
dealer.
ASSISTANCE SYSTEM
I n a n e m e r g e n c y , t h i s s y s t e m e n a -
b l e s t h e o p t i m u m b r a k i n g p r e s s u r e t o
b e r e a c h e d m o r e q u i c k l y , t h u s r e d u c -
i n g t h e s t o p p i n g d i s t a n c e .
I t i s t r i g g e r e d b y t h e s p e e d a t w h i c h
t h e b r a k e p e d a l i s a c t i v a t e d . T h e e f -
f e c t o f t h i s i s a r e d u c t i o n i n t h e r e s i s t -
a n c e o f t h e p e d a l a n d a n i n c r e a s e i n
b r a k i n g e f i c i e n c y .
W h e n t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t
c o m e s o n , a c c o m p a n i e d
b y a b u z z e r a n d a m e s -
sage, it indicates that there
is a malfunction of the ABS,
w h i c h c a n c a u s e a l o s s o f c o n t r o l o f
t h e v e h i c l e w h e n b r a k i n g . W h e n t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t
comes on, connected to
the
STOP and ABS w a r n -
i n g l i g h t s , a c c o m p a n i e d b y
a buzzer and a message, it
indicates that there is a malfunction
o f t h e e l e c t r o n i c b r a k e f o r c e d i s t r i b u -
t i o n , w h i c h c a n c a u s e a l o s s o f c o n -
t r o l o f t h e v e h i c l e w h e n b r a k i n g .
N o r m a l o p e r a t i o n o f t h e A B S m a y
make itself felt by slight vibrations
o f t h e b r a k e p e d a l .
In emergency braking, press
v e r y i r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g t h e
pressure.

p r e v e n t t h e w h e e l s s k i d d i n g , b y a c t -
i n g o n t h e b r a k e s o f t h e d r i v e w h e e l s
a n d o n t h e e n g i n e . I t a l s o a l l o w s t h e
directional stability of the vehicle to
b e i m p r o v e d o n a c c e l e r a t i o n .
I f t h e r e i s a v a r i a t i o n b e t w e e n t h e t r a -
j e c t o r y f o l l o w e d b y t h e v e h i c l e a n d
t h a t r e q u i r e d b y t h e d r i v e r , t h e E S P
s y s t e m a u t o m a t i c a l l y a c t s o n t h e e n -
gine and the brake of one or more
w h e e l s , i n o r d e r t o p u t t h e v e h i c l e
b a c k o n c o u r s e , w i t h i n t h e l i m i t s o f
t h e l a w s o f p h y s i c s . I n e x c e p t i o n a l c o n d i t i o n s ( s t a r t i n g a
v e h i c l e w h i c h i s b o g g e d d o w n , s t u c k
i n s n o w , o n s o f t g r o u n d , . . . ) , i t m a y
be advisable to disarm the ASR and
E S P s y s t e m s , s o t h a t t h e w h e e l s c a n
m o v e f r e e l y a n d r e g a i n g r i p .

E S P s y s t e m s a r e a l w a y s a c t i v e . Disarming
The ESP/ASR systems offer
e x c e p t i o n a l s a f e t y i n n o r m a l
d r i v i n g , b u t t h i s s h o u l d n o t e n -
courage the driver to take extra
r i s k s o r d r i v e a t h i g h s p e e d .
The correct functioning of these
s y s t e m s d e p e n d s o n o b s e r v a -
t i o n o f t h e m a n u f a c t u r e r ' s r e c -
ommendations regarding the

Applying
Pull the handbrake to immobilise
your vehicle. When the vehicle is being
driven, illumination of this
w a r n i n g l i g h t a n d o f t h e
STOP w a r n i n g l i g h t , a c -
c o m p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e
s i g n a l a n d a m e s s a g e o n t h e m u l t i -
f u n c t i o n d i s p l a y , i n d i c a t e s t h a t t h e
handbrake is still on or has not been
p r o p e r l y r e l e a s e d .
Releasing
P u l l o n t h e h a n d l e a n d p r e s s t h e
button to release the handbrake.
T h e f o u r s p e e d automatic gearbox
o f f e r s a c h o i c e b e t w e e n t h e c o m f o r t
of integral automatic o p e r a t i o n , e n -
hanced by a sport and a snow p r o -
gramme, or manual gear changing .
P a r k : t o immobilise the vehicle or

Applying
Pull the handbrake to immobilise
your vehicle. When the vehicle is being
driven, illumination of this
w a r n i n g l i g h t a n d o f t h e
STOP w a r n i n g l i g h t , a c -
c o m p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e
s i g n a l a n d a m e s s a g e o n t h e m u l t i -
f u n c t i o n d i s p l a y , i n d i c a t e s t h a t t h e
handbrake is still on or has not been
p r o p e r l y r e l e a s e d .
Releasing
P u l l o n t h e h a n d l e a n d p r e s s t h e
button to release the handbrake.
