SAFETY
The driver must ensure that passen-
gers use the seat belts correctly and
that they are all restrained securely
before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the vehicle,
always fasten your seat belt, even for
short journeys.
Do not invert the seat belt buckles as
t h e y w i l l n o t f u l fi l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n i n e r t i a
reel permitting automatic adjustment
of the length of the strap to your size.
The seat belt is stored automatically
when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the
seat belt is reeled in correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on the
pelvis.
The upper part must be positioned in
the hollow of the shoulder.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n a u -
tomatic locking device which comes
into operation in the event of a col-
lision, emergency braking or if the
vehicle rolls over. You can release
t h e d e v i c e b y p u l l i n g fi r m l y o n t h e
strap and releasing it so that it re-
winds slightly. In order to be effective, a seat belt
must:
- be tightened as close to the body
as possible,
- be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking that
it does not twist,
- be used to restrain only one person,
- not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- n o t b e c o n v e r t e d o r m o d i fi e d t o avoid affecting its performance.
In accordance with current safety
regulations, all repairs and checks
must be carried out by a PEUGEOT
dealer who guarantees that the work
is carried out correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regu-
larly by a PEUGEOT dealer and par-
ticularly if the straps show signs of
damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product,
sold by PEUGEOT dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
is positioned and reeled in correctly. Recommendations for children
Use a suitable child seat if the pas-
senger is less than 12 years old or
shorter than one and a half metres.
Never use the same seat belt to se-
cure more than one person.
Never allow a child to travel on your lap.
In the event of an impact
Depending on the nature and se-
riousness of the impacts , the pre-
tensioning device may be triggered
before and independently of the air-
bags. Triggering of the pre-tensioners
is accompanied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
cartridge incorporated in the system.
In all cases, the airbag warning lamp
comes on.
Following an impact, have the seat
belts system checked, and if neces-
sary replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer.

Stopping the vehicle
Before switching off the engine, you
can engage position P or N to place the
g e a r b o x i n n e u t r a l .
In both cases, apply the parking brake
to immobilise the vehicle. Operating fault
When the ignition is on, the
lighting of this warning lamp,
accompanied by an audible sig-
nal and a message on the multi-
f u n c t i o n s c r e e n , i n d i c a t e s a g e a r b o x
malfunction.
I n t h i s c a s e , t h e g e a r b o x s w i t c h e s t o
emergency mode and is locked in 3rd
gear. You may feel a substantial knock
when changing from P to R and from N
to R . This will not cause any damage to
t h e g e a r b o x .
D o n o t e x c e e d a s p e e d o f 6 0 m p h
( 1 0 0 k m / h ) , l o c a l s p e e d r e s t r i c t i o n s p e r -
mitting.
Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
This warning lamp may also come on if
a door is opened.
There is a risk of damage to the
g e a r b o x :
- if you press the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time,
- if you force the lever from posi- tion P to another position when
t h e b a t t e r y i s fl a t .
Manual operation
Select position M for sequential
c h a n g i n g o f t h e f o u r o r s i x g e a r s .
Push the lever towards the + sign to
change up a gear.
Pull the lever towards the - sign to
change down a gear.
D disappears and the gears
engaged appear in succes-
sion on the instrument panel.
In the event of under-revving
or over-revving, the gear se-
l e c t e d fl a s h e s f o r a f e w s e c o n d s , t h e n
the actual gear engaged is displayed. If the lever is not in position
P ,
when the driver's door is opened or
a p p r o x i m a t e l y 4 5 s e c o n d s a f t e r t h e ignition is switched off, an audible
signal is heard and a message ap-
pears.
Return the lever to position P ;
the audible signal stops and the
message disappears.
It is only possible to change from one
gear to another if the vehicle speed and
engine speed permit; otherwise, the
g e a r b o x w i l l o p e r a t e t e m p o r a r i l y i n a u -
tomatic mode.
Invalid value during manual
operation
This symbol is displayed if a
gear is not engaged correctly
(selector between two posi-
t i o n s ) .
It is possible to change from position D
( a u t o m a t i c ) t o p o s i t i o n M ( m a n u a l ) a t
any time.
When the vehicle is stationary or moving
v e r y s l o w l y , t h e g e a r b o x s e l e c t s g e a r M1
automatically.
The sport and snow programmes do not
operate in manual mode. To limit fuel consumption when sta-
tionary for long periods with the en-
g i n e r u n n i n g ( t r a f fi c j a m . . . ) , p l a c e
the gear lever in position
N and apply
the parking brake.

REAR PARKING SENSORS
S y s t e m c o n s i s t i n g o f f o u r p r o x i m i t y s e n -
sors, located in the rear bumper.
This detects any obstacle (person, ve-
h i c l e , t r e e , g a t e , e t c . ) b e h i n d t h e v e h i c l e ,
e x c e p t o b s t a c l e s l o c a t e d j u s t b e l o w t h e
bumper. A n o b j e c t , s u c h a s a s t a k e , a r o a d -
works cone or any other similar
o b j e c t m a y b e d e t e c t e d a t t h e b e -
ginning of the manoeuvre, but may
no longer be detected when the
vehicle comes close to it.
The parking sensor system can-
not, in any circumstances, take
the place of the vigilance and re-
sponsibility of the driver. Activation
The system is activated as soon as re-
verse gear is engaged, accompanied
b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l . T h e p r o x i m i t y i n -
formation is given by:
- an audible signal, which becomes
more rapid as the vehicle approaches the obstacle.
- a graphic on the multifunction screen, with blocks which become
increasingly closer to the vehicle. When the distance between the rear of
the vehicle and the obstacle is less than
thirty centimetres, the audible signal be-
comes continuous and the "Danger" sym-
bol appears on the multifunction screen.
On completion of the manoeuvre, when
y o u e x i t r e v e r s e g e a r , t h e s y s t e m b e -
comes inactive.
Programming
You can activate or deactivate the
system by means of the multifunction
s c r e e n c o n fi g u r a t i o n m e n u . T h e s y s t e m
state is memorised when switching off
the ignition.
For more information on access to the
parking assistance menu, refer to ve-
h i c l e c o n fi g u r a t i o n i n t h e " M u l t i f u n c t i o n
screens" section corresponding to your
screen.
The system will be deactivated auto-
matically when towing a trailer or when
a b i c y c l e c a r r i e r i s fi t t e d ( v e h i c l e fi t t e d
with a towbar or bicycle carrier recom-
m e n d e d b y P E U G E O T ) .
Operating faults If there is an operating fault,
when reverse gear is engaged
this warning lamp comes on on
the instrument panel, accompa-
n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l ( s h o r t b e e p )
and a message on the multifunction
screen.
In bad or wintry weather, ensure that
the sensors are not covered with mud,
frost or snow.

AUDIBLE AND VISUAL FRONT AND REAR PARKING SENSORS
S y s t e m c o n s i s t i n g o f f o u r p r o x i m i t y
sensors, installed in the front and rear
bumpers.
It detects any obstacle (person, vehicle,
t r e e , b a r r i e r . . . ) l o c a t e d i n f r o n t o f a n d
b e h i n d t h e v e h i c l e , e x c e p t f o r o b s t a c l e s
located immediately below the bumper. The parking sensors are
switched on :
- by engaging reverse gear,
- a t a s p e e d b e l o w 6 m p h ( 1 0 k m / h ) i n forward gear.
This is accompanied by an audible signal
a n d / o r d i s p l a y i n g o f t h e v e h i c l e o n t h e
multifunction screen.
A n o b j e c t , s u c h a s a s t a k e , a r o a d -
works cone or any other similar
o b j e c t m a y b e d e t e c t e d a t t h e s t a r t
of the manoeuvre but may no lon-
ger be detected when the vehicle
moves nearer to it. T h e p r o x i m i t y i n f o r m a t i o n i s i n d i c a t e d b y :
- an audible signal which becomes
more rapid as the vehicle approach-
es the obstacle,
- a diagram on the multifunction screen, with blocks which move
closer to the vehicle.
The obstacle is located in relation to the
emission of the audible signal by the
speakers; front or rear and right or left.
When the distance between the vehicle
a n d t h e o b s t a c l e i s l e s s t h a n a p p r o x i -
mately thirty centimetres, the audible
s i g n a l b e c o m e s c o n t i n u o u s a n d / o r t h e
"Danger" symbol appears, depending
on the multifunction screen version.
The parking sensor system cannot,
in any circumstances, replace the
need for vigilance and responsibility
on the part of the driver.
The parking sensors are
switched off :
- w h e n y o u e x i t r e v e r s e g e a r ,
- when the speed is higher than 6 mph ( 1 0 k m / h ) i n f o r w a r d g e a r ,
- when the vehicle has been station- ary for more than three seconds in
forward gear.

Parking the vehicle
Immobilise the vehicle where it
d o e s n o t b l o c k t r a f fi c : t h e g r o u n d
must be level, stable and non-slip-
pery ground.
Apply the parking brake, switch off
t h e i g n i t i o n a n d e n g a g e fi r s t g e a r *
to lock the wheels.
If necessary, place a chock under
the wheel diagonally opposite the
wheel to be changed.
It is imperative that you ensure that
the occupants get out of the vehicle
and wait where they are safe.
Never go underneath a vehicle
r a i s e d u s i n g a j a c k ; u s e a n a x l e
stand.
Removing the wheel
List of operations
Fit the security socket 3 on the
wheelbrace 1 to slacken the security
bolt.
Slacken the other bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 only.
Place the jack 2 in contact with one
of the two front A or rear B locations
provided on the underbody, whichever
is closest to the wheel to be changed.
E x t e n d t h e j a c k 2 until its base plate
is in contact with the ground. Ensure
that the centreline of the jack base
plate is directly below the location A
or B used.
Raise the vehicle until there is
s u f fi c i e n t s p a c e b e t w e e n t h e w h e e l
and the ground to admit the spare
( n o t p u n c t u r e d ) w h e e l e a s i l y .
Remove the bolts and store them in
a clean place.
Remove the wheel.

BATTERY
Procedure for charging your battery
w h e n i t i s fl a t o r f o r s t a r t i n g t h e e n g i n e
using another battery.
Access to the battery Disconnecting/Reconnecting
the cables
Raise the locking plate 1 fully.
Position the open clip of the cable
o n t h e p o s i t i v e t e r m i n a l ( + ) o f t h e
battery.
Press vertically on the clip 2 to
position it correctly against the
battery.
Lock the clip by lowering the plate 1 . Starting using another battery
Do not force the plate as locking is
impossible if the clip is positioned
incorrectly.
Start the procedure again.
Connect the red cable to the positive
t e r m i n a l ( + ) o f t h e fl a t b a t t e r y A ,
t h e n t o t h e p o s i t i v e t e r m i n a l ( + ) o f
the slave battery B .
The battery is located under the bonnet.
T o g a i n a c c e s s t o i t :
open the bonnet using the interior
r e l e a s e l e v e r , t h e n t h e e x t e r i o r
safety catch,
secure the bonnet stay,
remove the plastic cover to gain
access to the two terminals,
u n c l i p t h e f u s e b o x t o r e m o v e t h e
battery, if necessary.
