BOOT (SALOON) TAILGATE AND REAR SCREEN (407 SW) Partial opening of the rear screen
Opening the tailgate and rear
screen
The tailgate and rear screen cannot
be opened at the same time.
With the rear screen closed, to open
the tailgate , operate the handle A ,
then lift the tailgate.
With the tailgate closed, to open the
rear screen , operate the handle B ,
then lift the rear screen.
The lighting is controlled by opening
the tailgate or the rear screen.
If the permanent locking of the
boot is activated, opening is
only possible by pressing the
remote control button.
Notes: the tailgate and rear
screen lock automatically when
driving at 6 mph (10 km/h) and
unlock when one of the doors
is opened.
When the rear wiper is in a wiping
position, the rear screen cannot be
opened until the end of the cycle.
Close the rear screen using the wiper
arm or by pressing the centre of the
glass.
T o o p e n t h e b o o t , p r e s s t h e p u s h b u t -
ton and raise the tailgate.
The locking or unlocking of the tailgate
and rear screen is simultaneous with
that of the doors. With the tailgate closed, to partially
open the
rear screen , press and hold
the unlocking button C on the remote
control.

"Rear screen open" warning
When the engine is running, if the
rear screen is not fully closed, you are
w a r n e d b y a m e s s a g e o n t h e m u l t i -
function display.
When the vehicle is moving (speed
greater than 6 mph (10 km/h)), if the
rear screen is not fully closed, you are
w a r n e d b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l , a m e s -
sage on the multifunction display and
lighting of the service warning light. Tailgate release
T h i s e n a b l e s t h e t a i l g a t e t o b e u n -
locked in the event of a central locking
fault.

Boot light
The boot light is located in the right-
h a n d b o o t t r i m .
I t c o m e s o n a u t o m a t i c a l l y w h e n t h e
boot is opened and switches off auto-
m a t i c a l l y w h e n t h e b o o t i s c l o s e d .

With the key in the ignition on or starting
position, operate the relevant switch.
T h e r e a r c o u r t e s y l i g h t c o m e s o n w h e n t h e
i g n i t i o n k e y i s r e m o v e d , o n u n l o c k i n g t h e
vehicle or on opening one of the doors.
It gradually goes off after the ignition
has been switched on or the vehicle
is locked.
Pressing switch 1 turns on the rear
courtesy light.
The courtesy light can be deactivated
by pressing switch 1 with the door open.
T h e m a p r e a d i n g l i g h t s a r e n o t a f f e c t e d
b y t h i s a n d m a y b e s w i t c h e d o n .
To re-activate the lights, press the
switch, with the door open. With the key in the ignition on or starting
position, press the corresponding
switch.
T h e r e a r r e a d i n g l i g h t s c o m e o n w h e n
t h e k e y i s r e m o v e d f r o m t h e i g n i t i o n
and when the vehicle is unlocked.
They switch off gradually when the
ignition is switched on or when the
vehicle is locked.
Pressing switch 1 switches on the
rear reading light concerned for
t e n m i n u t e s .

CHANGING A WHEEL
Tools available
The following tools are located in
the holder in the centre of the spare
wheel:
1. Wheelbrace.
Permits removal of the wheel trim and removal of the wheel securing
bolts.
2. Jack with integrated handle.
Permits raising of the vehicle.
3. Removable towing eye.
See corresponding section.
4. Bolt cover tool.
Permits removal of the bolt protectors (covers) on alloy wheels. Removal
For vehicles with steel wheels,
detach the trim using the wheel-
brace 1 pulling at the valve pas-
sage hole.
For vehicles with alloy wheels,
remove the covers using tool 4 .
Loosen the wheel bolts.
Take the jack from the tool kit.
Place the jack 2 in one of the four
locations underneath the vehicle
(the nearest one to the wheel to be
changed).
Extend the jack 2 until its base is in
contact with the ground.
Unscrew the bolts and remove the
wheel.

Secure the handle behind the boot
seal. Never go underneath a vehicle
which is supported only by a
jack.
Park the vehicle on level, stable
and non-slippery ground.
Apply the handbrake, switch off the
i g n i t i o n a n d e n g a g e fi r s t o r r e v e r s e
gear (position P for the automatic
gearbox).

Fitting a wheel
Position the wheel.
Tighten the bolts by hand.
Partly tighten the bolts using the
wheelbrace.
Fold the jack 2 and remove it.
Fully tighten the bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 .
For vehicles with steel wheels,
r e fi t t h e w h e e l t r i m s t a r t i n g b y p l a c -
ing its notch facing the valve and
press with the palm of the hand.
F o r v e h i c l e s w i t h a l l o y w h e e l s , r e fi t
the covers.
Put the tool holder back in position.
T h i s h e l p s t o k e e p t h e b o o t fl o o r i n
its correct position, to prevent any
d e f o r m a t i o n o f t h e fl o o r w h e n l o a d e d .
Tighten the spare wheel securing
strap to prevent noise and for your
safety in the event of impact. Punctured tyre warning

Information on the instrument
panel:
Reminder: for your safety, always
change a wheel:
- on level, stable, non-slippery ground,
- with the handbrake applied,
-

sition P for the automatic gearbox),
- never go underneath a vehicle
which is supported only by a jack. T y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n
system warning light
T h e s e o r i g i n a l w h e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a
pressure sensor (see paragraph "Tyre
u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n " ) . T h e a l a r m
which detects the removal or absence
o f a w h e e l fi t t e d w i t h t h e i n d i c a t o r
sensor signals the anomaly. Have
the wheel repaired and checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
After changing the wheel:
- have the tightening of the bolts and
the tyre pressure of the spare wheel
checked as soon as possible.
- have the punctured wheel repaired a n d r e fi t i t t o t h e v e h i c l e a s s o o n a s
possible.
- have the spare wheel checked and replace it in its boot recess.
Recommendations when using the
temporary spare wheel *
Your vehicle may be equipped with a
spare wheel with a different rim to that
of the standard wheel.
After use, replace it as soon as possible.
Follow the recommendations below
to avoid any alteration in vehicle han-
dling:
-
do not drive above 50 mph (80 km/h) ,
- d o n o t fi t a w h e e l t r i m ,
- drive carefully,
- c h e c k t h e i n fl a t i o n p r e s s u r e i n d i - cated on the label.

Third brake light:
Five W 5 W bulbs.
Remove the plastic cover carefully
by unclipping it at the centre and
on either side, perpendicular to its
direction of engagement.
Press on the two tabs located at
the rear, near the rear screen.
Pull the red transparent cover out-
wards while maintaining the pressure
on the tabs.
Change the faulty bulb.
W h e n r e fi t t i n g , e n s u r e t h a t t h e
tabs of the red transparent cover
are engaged correctly and that the
upper trim has been put back in
place correctly.
S c r e w o n t h e l i g h t fi x i n g n u t s i n -
side the boot using the towing eye,
i f n e c e s s a r y . W h e n r e fi t t i n g , e n -
sure that the light is positioned and
fi x e d c o r r e c t l y .
Reconnect the connector.
Number plate lights:
W 5 W.
Remove the transparent cover using
a screwdriver blade.
Change the faulty bulb.
Push the repeater forwards or
backwards and release it.
Unclip the repeater and change it.
Repeaters can be obtained from
PEUGEOT dealers.
Amber coloured bulbs (direction indi-
cators and side repeaters), must be
replaced with bulbs of identical speci-
fi c a t i o n a n d c o l o u r .
1. Direction indicators:
PY 21 W (amber).
2. Reversing lights: P21 W.
3. Fog lamps/side lights:
P21/4 W.
4. Side lights: P21/4 W.
5. Brake lights/side lights: P21/4 W.
Disconnect the connector.
U n s c r e w t h e l i g h t fi x i n g n u t s i n -
side the boot using the towing eye
(stored inside the spare wheel), if
necessary.
Remove the seal.
Unclip the bulb holder moving
aside the 5 tabs.
Unscrew the bulb and change it.
Lock the bulb holder in place.
Reposition the seal.

Left and right fog lamps:
P21 W.
Carefully unclip the tailgate interior
trim.
Detach the sealing sheet located
behind the light concerned.
Remove the bulb holder turning it a
quarter of a turn.
Change the faulty bulb.
W h e n r e fi t t i n g , e n s u r e t h a t t h e b u l b i s
positioned correctly in the bulb holder.
Unclip the light (2 clips).
Disconnect the connector and re-
move the light.
Unclip the bulb holder moving
aside the 4 tabs.
Unscrew the bulb and change it.
Reconnect the connector.
Lock the bulb holder in place.
W h e n r e fi t t i n g i t , e n s u r e t h a t t h e
lamp is correctly positioned and
secured, reclipping the rear part
then the front part.
Number plate lights:
W 5 W.
Insert a thin screwdriver in one of
the exterior holes of the transpar-
ent cover.
Push it towards the outside to un-
clip it.
Remove the transparent cover.
Change the faulty bulb. Third brake light (diodes)
All work on the diode lights must be
carried out by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Wing lights
1. Brake lights/side lights:
P21/5 W.
2. Reversing lights:
P21 W.
3. Direction indicators:
P21 W.
These three bulbs are changed by
removing the light.
Remove the corresponding boot
s i d e fl a p t o g a i n a c c e s s t o t h e
light.
R e m o v e t h e l i g h t fi x i n g n u t i n s i d e
the boot.
Note: if necessary, use the wheelbrace
to remove the nuts. In some climatic conditions
(e.g. low temperature or hu-
midity), the presence of misting
on the internal surface of the
glass of the headlamps and rear lamps
is normal; it disappears after the lamps
have been on for a few minutes.

To start the vehicle from another
battery: BATTERY (LOCATED IN THE BOOT) *
* V e h i c l e s fi t t e d w i t h t h e 2 . 7 l i t r e H D I
24 V engine.
The battery is in the left boot trim.
To charge the battery using a bat-
tery charger (boot open):
fold down the panel to gain access
to the battery,
disconnect the battery,
follow the instructions for use given
by the battery charger manufacturer,
reconnect starting with the nega-
tive (-) terminal,
raise the panel and close it.
open the bonnet,
use the two additional positive (+)
and negative (-) terminals located
under the bonnet,
open the red cover of the positive
(+) terminal,
connect the red cable between the
positive (+) terminal and the positive
(+) terminal of the slave battery,
connect the green or black cable
between the negative (-) terminal
and the negative (-) terminal of the
slave battery,
operate the starter, let the engine run,
wait for the engine to return to idle,
then disconnect the cables,
close the red cover of the positive
(+) terminal,
r e fi t t h e l e f t s i d e c o v e r ,
close the bonnet. Before disconnecting the bat-
tery, you must wait for 2 minutes
after switching off the ignition.
Never disconnect a terminal
when the engine is running.
N e v e r c h a r g e a b a t t e r y w i t h o u t fi r s t
disconnecting the terminals.
Open the windows and close the sun-
roof before disconnecting the battery.
If they do not operate normally follow-
ing reconnection of the battery, they
must be reinitialised (see paragraphs
"Reinitialisation of the electric win-
dows" and "Sunroof").
After every reconnection of the bat-
tery, switch on the ignition and wait
1 minute before starting to allow the
electronic systems to be initialised.
H o w e v e r , i f s l i g h t d i f fi c u l t i e s a r e e x -
perienced after this, please contact a
PEUGEOT dealer.
On the 2.7 litre 24V HDI engine, if
there is no battery in the boot, do
not connect a slave battery to the
positive (+) and negative (-) termi-
nals under the bonnet as a short
circuit may occur.
The batteries contain harmful
substances such as sulphu-
ric acid and lead. They must
be disposed of in accordance
with regulations and must never be
discarded with household waste.
Take used batteries to an approved
collection point.
