CHECK (VEHICLE AUTOTEST)
In the presence of a fault
A "minor" fault has been detected:
when the CHECK OK indicator light
has been displayed, the warning
light(s) is(are) displayed.
You can start your vehicle; however,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer as soon
as possible.
A "major" fault has been detected: the
CHECK OK indicator light does not
appear and the warning light(s) is(are)
displayed.
Do not start your vehicle.
Call a PEUGEOT dealer without delay.
Automatic CHECK
With the key in the ignition on position,
all of the warning lights of the func-
tions tested are displayed. They are
switched off after a few seconds.
At the same time, an automatic CHECK
(vehicle autotest) is carried out.
No "major" fault has been
detected: the CHECK OK in-
dicator light is displayed after
two seconds.
You can start your vehicle.
Pressing the "CHECK/000" button on
the instrument panel starts the manual
CHECK (vehicle autotest).
T h i s f u n c t i o n e n a b l e s y o u t o fi n d o u t , a t
any time (with the key in the ignition on
position or with the engine running):
- the warnings present,
- the status of the functions activated or deactivated (wipers, automatic
switching on of the lights).
Manual CHECK
The passenger air bag disarmed
indicator light * remains on while
the air bag is disarmed.
With the engine running and the ve-
hicle moving, the instrument panel
screen displays the warning lights (in
the event of a fault). Braking system warning
light

This indicates:
- handbrake applied or incorrectly
released,
- an excessive drop in the brake fl u i d l e v e l , i n t h i s c a s e l i n k e d w i t h
the STOP warning light,
- an electronic brake force distribu- tion malfunction, linked with the
STOP warning light.
Seat belt warning light
When the ignition is switched on, the
warning light comes on if a front occu-
pant has not fastened his seat belt or
if he unfastens it. The warning light is repeated
on the instrument panel screen
in the case of the last 2 faults.
Stop immediately in the two latter
cases. Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.

Battery charge warning
light
When the engine is running, this in-
dicates a charging circuit malfunction
(battery terminals, alternator belt).
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer. T y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n w a r n i n g
light
This indicates that the tyre pressure is
too low.
A message on the multifunction display
indicates the wheel(s) concerned.
R e f e r t o t h e i n f o r m a t i o n l a b e l a f fi x e d
to the central pillar of the driver's door.
For your safety, check the tyre pres-
sures as soon as possible.
Electronic stability control system
(ESP) warning lights Activation warning light
Operation warning light
Deactivation warning light
Malfunction warning light
Power steering warning
light
This indicates a power steering fault.
It is linked with the STOP warning
light.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer. Handbrake warning light
This indicates that the handbrake is
still applied or has not been released
correctly.
It is linked with the braking system
warning light. Low wash-wipe and
h e a d l a m p w a s h fl u i d l e v e l
warning light
When the wipers are switched on, this
i n d i c a t e s t h a t t h e fl u i d l e v e l i s t o o l o w .
Fill the wash-wipe and headlamp wash
fl u i d r e s e r v o i r .
Engine oil level warning
light
This indicates a critical engine oil level
(too low).
WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAY
These warning lights are displayed on
the instrument panel display.
STOP warning light
When this is displayed alone, it indi-
cates a power steering fault.
It comes on linked with the engine oil
pressure, coolant temperature, brak-
ing system or punctured tyre warning
lights.
Stop immediately.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Punctured tyre warning light
This indicates that one or more punc-
tured tyres have been detected.
A message on the multifunction display
i d e n t i fi e s t h e w h e e l ( s ) c o n c e r n e d .
It is linked with the STOP warning
light.
Stop immediately.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Stop immediately.
Change the damaged wheel and have
it repaired by a PEUGEOT dealer.

HANDBRAKE 6-SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX
To release
Pull the handle and press the button to
release the handbrake.
To apply
When parking on a slope, turn the
wheels towards the kerb and apply the
handbrake.
Reverse
To change to reverse gear, lift the ring
under the gear lever knob and push
the gear lever to the left then to the
front.
Reverse gear can only be engaged
when the vehicle is stationary with
the engine idling.

Gear selection gate
Move the lever in the gate to select
a position.
The indicator light corresponding to the position selected appears on
the instrument panel screen.
P ark: to immobilise the vehicle and to
start the engine, with the handbrake on.
R everse: to reverse (select this position
with the vehicle stationary, engine at idle).
N eutral: to start the engine and to park,
with the handbrake on.
Note: if position N is inadvertently
engaged while driving, allow the engine to
return to idle before engaging position D
then accelerate.
D rive: to drive in automatic mode.
M anual: to drive selecting the gears.
S: sport programme.
: snow programme.
"PORSCHE TIPTRONIC SYSTEM" AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
The four or six speed automatic gearbox
offers, as required, the comfort of the
auto-adaptive programme enhanced
by a selection suited to dynamic driving
conditions: sport, or to driving on a
slippery road: snow.
However, manual selection is still possible
using the gear lever.
Moving Off
With the engine running, move off from
position P :
to exit position P, it is essential
to press the brake pedal,
select position R , D or M , then
gradually release the pressure on
the brake pedal; the vehicle moves
off immediately.
To move off from position N :
with your foot on the brake, release
the handbrake,
select position R , D or M , then
gradually release the pressure on
the brake pedal; the vehicle moves
off immediately.
Starting the engine
with the handbrake on, select position
P or N in the gate,
turn the ignition key. When the engine is at idle,
brakes not applied, if position
R , D or M is selected, the
vehicle moves even without the
accelerator being pressed.
Do not leave children unsupervised
inside the vehicle, with position
R, D or M selected, with the engine
running, as the vehicle moves
even without the accelerator being
pressed.
With the ignition off, if the
lever is not in position P , an
audible signal is heard when
the driver's door is opened, or
after approximately 45 seconds. Move
the lever to position P . The audible
signal ceases.
When maintenance operations need to
be carried out with the engine running,
apply the handbrake and select the
P ark position.

CHECKS
At the start of winter, have
your battery checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
H a v e t h e fi l t e r e l e m e n t s
replaced regularly. If you drive
in dusty conditions, change
them twice as often.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Particle emission filter (Diesel)
It is imperative that the particle emis-
s i o n fi l t e r i s m a i n t a i n e d i n a c c o r d a n c e
with the manufacturer’s servicing
schedule, by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Note: following prolonged operation of
the vehicle at very low speed or at idle,
y o u m a y , i n e x c e p t i o n a l c i r c u m s t a n c e s ,
notice emissions of water vapour at the
e x h a u s t o n a c c e l e r a t i o n . T h i s d o e s n o t
have any effect on the performance of
the vehicle or the environment.
O n v e h i c l e s w h i c h a r e fi t t e d w i t h a
p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r , t h e f a n a s -
sembly may operate after the vehicle
has stopped, even when the engine is
cold. Where the handbrake travel is
too great or there is a reduc-
tion in the performance of the
system, the handbrake should
be adjusted.
Have the system checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.

Disc wear status
For any information relating to checking
disc wear, contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
FUEL SUPPLY CUT-OFF
(PETROL) *
As a safety precaution, in certain circum-stances, a mechanism prevents fuel from reaching the engine. To re-establish the fuel supply:
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL (DIESEL)
If you should run out of fuel, it is neces-
sary to re-prime the circuit.
The repriming pump and the degas
screw are located under the bonnet
(see corresponding illustration in the
t e c h n i c a l d a t a s e c t i o n ) :
1.6 litre 16V HDI engine
- fi l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e
litres of diesel,
- squeeze and release the manual re-priming pump, until fuel appears
in the transparent pipe,
- operate the starter until the engine starts.
2 litre 16V HDI engine
- fi l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel,
- unscrew the degas screw,
- squeeze and release the manual repriming pump until diesel is seen
escaping via the degas screw,
- retighten the degas screw,
- operate the starter until the engine starts.
Brake pad wear depends on
the style of driving, in particu-
lar for vehicles which are used
in town, over short distances.
Brake pads It may be necessary to check
the thickness of the pads,
even between services.
* According to version.
To ensure the best perfor-
mance from components as
important as the power steer-
ing and the braking system, the
m a n u f a c t u r e r s e l e c t s a n d o f f e r s s p e c i fi c
products, only use products recom-
mended by PEUGEOT .
Battery
To prevent damage to the electrical units,
high pressure washing of the engine
compartment is strictly prohibited .

CHANGING A WHEEL
Tools available
The following tools are located in
the holder in the centre of the spare
wheel:
1. Wheelbrace.
Permits removal of the wheel trim and removal of the wheel securing
bolts.
2. Jack with integrated handle.
Permits raising of the vehicle.
3. Removable towing eye.
See corresponding section.
4. Bolt cover tool.
Permits removal of the bolt protectors (covers) on alloy wheels. Removal
For vehicles with steel wheels,
detach the trim using the wheel-
brace 1 pulling at the valve pas-
sage hole.
For vehicles with alloy wheels,
remove the covers using tool 4 .
Loosen the wheel bolts.
Take the jack from the tool kit.
Place the jack 2 in one of the four
locations underneath the vehicle
(the nearest one to the wheel to be
changed).
Extend the jack 2 until its base is in
contact with the ground.
Unscrew the bolts and remove the
wheel.
Access to the spare wheel and the
jack in the boot

Secure the handle behind the boot
seal. Never go underneath a vehicle
which is supported only by a
jack.
Park the vehicle on level, stable
and non-slippery ground.
Apply the handbrake, switch off the
i g n i t i o n a n d e n g a g e fi r s t o r r e v e r s e
gear (position P for the automatic
gearbox).

Fitting a wheel
Position the wheel.
Tighten the bolts by hand.
Partly tighten the bolts using the
wheelbrace.
Fold the jack 2 and remove it.
Fully tighten the bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 .
For vehicles with steel wheels,
r e fi t t h e w h e e l t r i m s t a r t i n g b y p l a c -
ing its notch facing the valve and
press with the palm of the hand.
F o r v e h i c l e s w i t h a l l o y w h e e l s , r e fi t
the covers.
Put the tool holder back in position.
T h i s h e l p s t o k e e p t h e b o o t fl o o r i n
its correct position, to prevent any
d e f o r m a t i o n o f t h e fl o o r w h e n l o a d e d .
Tighten the spare wheel securing
strap to prevent noise and for your
safety in the event of impact. Punctured tyre warning
light
Information on the instrument
panel:
Reminder: for your safety, always
change a wheel:
- on level, stable, non-slippery ground,
- with the handbrake applied,
-
w i t h fi r s t o r r e v e r s e g e a r e n g a g e d ( p o -
sition P for the automatic gearbox),
- never go underneath a vehicle
which is supported only by a jack. T y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n
system warning light
T h e s e o r i g i n a l w h e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a
pressure sensor (see paragraph "Tyre
u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n " ) . T h e a l a r m
which detects the removal or absence
o f a w h e e l fi t t e d w i t h t h e i n d i c a t o r
sensor signals the anomaly. Have
the wheel repaired and checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
After changing the wheel:
- have the tightening of the bolts and
the tyre pressure of the spare wheel
checked as soon as possible.
- have the punctured wheel repaired a n d r e fi t i t t o t h e v e h i c l e a s s o o n a s
possible.
- have the spare wheel checked and replace it in its boot recess.
Recommendations when using the
temporary spare wheel *
Your vehicle may be equipped with a
spare wheel with a different rim to that
of the standard wheel.
After use, replace it as soon as possible.
Follow the recommendations below
to avoid any alteration in vehicle han-
dling:
-
do not drive above 50 mph (80 km/h) ,
- d o n o t fi t a w h e e l t r i m ,
- drive carefully,
- c h e c k t h e i n fl a t i o n p r e s s u r e i n d i - cated on the label.
