BOOT (SALOON) TAILGATE AND REAR SCREEN (407SW) Partial opening of the rear screen
Opening the tailgate and rear
screen
The tailgate and rear screen cannot
be opened at the same time.
With the rear screen closed, to open
the tailgate , operate the handle A ,
then lift the tailgate.
With the tailgate closed, to open the
rear screen , operate the handle B ,
then lift the rear screen.
The boot lighting is controlled by open-
ing the tailgate or the rear screen.
If the permanent locking of the
boot is activated, opening is
only possible by pressing the
remote control button.
Notes: the tailgate and rear
screen lock automatically when
driving at 6 mph (10 km/h) and
unlock when one of the doors
is opened.
When the rear wiper is in a wiping
position, the rear screen cannot be
opened until the end of the cycle.
Close the rear screen using the wiper
arm or by pressing the centre of the
glass.
To open the boot, press the push button
and raise the tailgate.
The locking or unlocking of the tailgate
and rear screen is simultaneous with
that of the doors. With the tailgate closed, to partially
open the
rear screen , press and hold
the unlocking button C on the remote
control.

Opening the tailgate and rear
screen
The tailgate and rear screen cannot
be opened at the same time.
With the rear screen closed, to open
the tailgate , operate the handle A ,
then lift the tailgate.
With the tailgate closed, to open the
rear screen , operate the handle B ,
then lift the rear screen.
The boot lighting is controlled by open-

"Rear screen open" warning
When the engine is running , if the
rear screen is not fully closed, you are
warned by a message on the multi-
function screen.
When the vehicle is moving (speed
greater than 6 mph (10 km/h)), if the
rear screen is not fully closed, you are
warned by an audible signal, a mes-
sage on the multifunction screen and
lighting of the service warning lamp. Tailgate release
This enables the tailgate to be un-
locked in the event of a central locking
fault.
- Fold back the rear seats to gain
access to the lock from inside the
boot.
- Insert a small screwdriver into hole A
of the lock to unlock the tailgate.

The boot light is located in the right-
h a n d b o o t t r i m .
I t c o m e s o n a u t o m a t i c a l l y w h e n t h e
boot is opened and switches off auto-
m a t i c a l l y w h e n t h e b o o t i s c l o s e d .

With the key in the ignition on or start-
ing position, operate the relevant
switch.
T h e r e a r c o u r t e s y l a m p c o m e s o n
w h e n t h e i g n i t i o n k e y i s r e m o v e d , o n
unlocking the vehicle or on opening
one of the doors.
It gradually goes off after the ignition
has been switched on or the vehicle
is locked.
Pressing switch 1 turns on the rear
c o u r t e s y l a m p .
T h e c o u r t e s y l a m p c a n b e d e a c t i v a t -
ed by pressing switch 1 with the door
o p e n . T h e m a p r e a d i n g l a m p s a r e n o t
a f f e c t e d b y t h i s a n d m a y b e s w i t c h e d
on.
T o r e - a c t i v a t e t h e l a m p s , p r e s s t h e
switch, with the door open. With the key in the ignition on or start-
ing position, press the corresponding
switch.
T h e r e a r r e a d i n g l a m p s c o m e o n w h e n
t h e k e y i s r e m o v e d f r o m t h e i g n i t i o n
and when the vehicle is unlocked.
They switch off gradually when the ig-
nition is switched on or when the ve-
hicle is locked.
Pressing switch 1 switches on the

CHANGING A WHEEL
Tools available
The following tools are located in
the holder in the centre of the spare
wheel:
1. Wheelbrace.
For removal of the wheel trim and removal of the wheel securing
bolts.
2. Jack with integral handle.
For raising the vehicle.
3. Removable towing eye.
See corresponding section.
4. Bolt cover tool.
For removal of the bolt protectors (covers) on alloy wheels. Removal
For vehicles with steel wheels, de-
tach the trim using the wheelbrace
1 pulling at the valve passage
hole.
For vehicles with alloy wheels, re-
move the covers using tool 4 .
Loosen the wheel bolts.
Take the jack from the tool kit.
Place the jack 2 in one of the four
locations underneath the vehicle
(the nearest one to the wheel to be
changed).
Extend the jack 2 until its base is in
contact with the ground.
Unscrew the bolts and remove the
wheel.
Access to the spare wheel and
the jack in the boot

the grip behind the boot seal. Never go underneath a ve-
hicle which is supported only
by a jack.
Park the vehicle on level, stable
and non-slippery ground.
Apply the parking brake, switch off
t h e i g n i t i o n a n d e n g a g e fi r s t o r r e -
verse gear (position P for the auto-
matic gearbox).

Fitting a wheel
Position the wheel.
Tighten the bolts by hand.
Partly tighten the bolts using the
wheelbrace.
Fold the jack 2 and remove it.
Fully tighten the bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 .
For vehicles with steel wheels, re-
fi t t h e w h e e l t r i m s t a r t i n g b y p l a c -
ing its notch facing the valve and
press with the palm of the hand.
F o r v e h i c l e s w i t h a l l o y w h e e l s , r e fi t
the covers.
Put the tool holder back in position.
T h i s h e l p s t o k e e p t h e b o o t fl o o r i n i t s
correct position, to prevent any de-
f o r m a t i o n o f t h e fl o o r w h e n l o a d e d .
Tighten the spare wheel securing
strap to prevent noise and for your
safety in the event of impact. Punctured tyre warning
lamp
Information on the instrument
panel:
Reminder: for your safety, always
change a wheel:
- on level, stable, non-slippery ground,
- with the parking brake applied,
- w i t h fi r s t o r r e v e r s e g e a r e n g a g e d (position P for the automatic gear-
box),
- never go underneath a vehicle which is supported only by a jack.
T y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n
system warning lamp
These original equipment wheels are
fi t t e d w i t h a p r e s s u r e s e n s o r ( s e e
p a r a g r a p h " T y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c -
tion"). The warning which detects the
r e m o v a l o r a b s e n c e o f a w h e e l fi t t e d
with the pressure sensor signals the
anomaly. Have the wheel repaired and
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
After changing the wheel:
- have the tightness of the bolts and
the tyre pressure of the spare wheel
checked as soon as possible.
- have the punctured wheel repaired a n d r e fi t i t t o t h e v e h i c l e a s s o o n a s
possible.
- have the spare wheel checked and replace it in its boot recess.
Recommendations when using
the temporary spare wheel *
Your vehicle may be equipped with a
spare wheel with a different rim to that
of the standard wheel.
After use, replace it as soon as possible.
Follow the recommendations below
to avoid any alteration in vehicle han-
dling:
-
do not drive above 50 mph (80 km/h) ,
- d o n o t fi t a w h e e l t r i m ,
- drive carefully,
- c h e c k t h e i n fl a t i o n p r e s s u r e i n d i - cated on the label.

Third brake light:
Five W 5 W bulbs.
Remove the plastic cover carefully
by unclipping it at the centre and
on either side, perpendicular to its
direction of engagement.
Press on the two tabs located at
the rear, near the rear screen.
Pull the red transparent cover out-
wards while maintaining the pressure
on the tabs.
Change the faulty bulb.
W h e n r e fi t t i n g , e n s u r e t h a t t h e
tabs of the red transparent cover
are engaged correctly and that the
upper trim has been put back in
place correctly.
R e fi t t h e l a m p fi x i n g n u t s i n s i d e
the boot using the towing eye, if
n e c e s s a r y . W h e n r e fi t t i n g , e n s u r e
that the lamp unit is positioned and
fi x e d c o r r e c t l y .
Reconnect the electrical connector.
Number plate lamps : W5W.
Remove the transparent cover us-
ing a screwdriver blade.
Change the faulty bulb.
Push the repeater forwards or
backwards and release it.
Unclip the repeater and change it.
Repeaters can be obtained from
PEUGEOT dealers.
Amber coloured bulbs (direction indi-
cators and side repeaters), must be
replaced with bulbs of identical speci-
fi c a t i o n a n d c o l o u r .
1. Direction indicators :
PY21W (amber).
2. Reversing lamps : P21W.
3. Foglamps/sidelamps :
P21/4W.
4. Sidelamps : P21/4W.
5. Brake lamps/sidelamps : P21/4W.
Disconnect the electrical connector.
U n s c r e w t h e l a m p fi x i n g n u t s i n -
side the boot using the towing eye
(stored inside the spare wheel), if
necessary.
Remove the seal.
Unclip the bulb holder moving
aside the 5 tabs.
Unscrew the bulb and change it.
R e fi t t h e b u l b h o l d e r .
Reposition the seal.

Carefully unclip the tailgate interior
trim.
D e t a c h t h e s e a l i n g fi l m l o c a t e d b e -
hind the lamp in question.
Remove the bulb holder turning it a
quarter of a turn.
Change the faulty bulb.
W h e n r e fi t t i n g , e n s u r e t h a t t h e b u l b i s
positioned correctly in the bulb holder.
Unclip the lamp (2 clips).
Disconnect the connector and re-
move the lamp.
Unclip the bulb holder moving
aside the 4 tabs.
Unscrew the bulb and change it.
Reconnect the connector.
R e fi t t h e b u l b h o l d e r . W h e n r e fi t t i n g
it, ensure that the lamp is correctly
positioned and secured, reclipping
the rear part then the front part.
Number plate lamps: W5W.
Insert a thin screwdriver in one of
the exterior holes of the transpar-
ent cover.
Push it towards the outside to unclip
it.
Remove the transparent cover.
Change the faulty bulb. Third brake lamp (diodes)
All work on the diode lamps must be
carried out by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Wing lamps
1. Brake lamps/sidelamps: P21/5W.
2. Reversing lamps: P21W.
3. Direction indicators: P21W.
These three bulbs are changed by re-
moving the lamp.
Remove the corresponding boot
s i d e fl a p t o g a i n a c c e s s t o t h e
lamp.
R e m o v e t h e l a m p fi x i n g n u t i n s i d e
the boot.
Note: if necessary, use the wheelbrace
to remove the nuts. In some climatic conditions
(e.g. low temperature or hu-
midity), the presence of misting
on the internal surface of the
glass of the headlamps and rear lamps
is normal; it disappears after the lamps
have been on for a few minutes.
