topping up the level.
The cooling system is pressurised.
I n t h e e v e n t o f a b r e a k d o w n a n d i n
order to avoid any risk of scalding,
unscrew the cap two turns to allow the
pressure to drop.
When the pressure has dropped,
remove the cap and top up the level.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer .
COOLANT TEMPERATURE INDICATOR
I n z o n e A , the temperature is correct.
I n z o n e B , the temperature is too high.
The central STOP warning light and
the maximum coolant temperature
warning light 1 come on, accompanied
b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l a n d t h e m e s s a g e
"Engine coolant temp. too high" on
the display.
You must stop immediately.
With monochrome screen
With colour screen

DISPLAY
After switching on the ignition, three
functions are shown in succession:
- service indicator,
- engine oil level indicator
(see corresponding section),
- total distance recorder (total and trip distances).
I t a l s o d i s p l a y s t h e a u t o m a t i c g e a r b o x
positions and programmes selected
(see opposite).
The total and trip distances are
displayed for thirty seconds, when
the ignition is switched off, on
opening the driver’s door as well as on
locking and unlocking the vehicle.

AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
The four-speed (petrol engine) or
six-speed (Diesel engine) "Porsche
Tiptronic-system" automatic g e a r b o x
o f f e r s a c h o i c e b e t w e e n :
- the comfort of integral automatic
operation , e n h a n c e d b y a s n o w
programme,
- or the pleasure of manual gear
changing . Gear selection gate
- Move the lever in the gate to select
a position. Once the position
is selected, the corresponding
indicator light appears on the
instrument panel display.

Good practice when starting Handbrake
On the version with rotating front seat,

the vehicle then lowering the lever

rotation of the driver's seat.

You can now rotate the seat.
To return to normal operation, pull the
lever up until it clicks.

n o t b e e n r e l e a s e d f u l l y , t h i s i s
i n d i c a t e d b y : - a warning light which comes on on the instrument panel,
- a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l ,
- a message on the display.
Key
Take care not to place the key in
contact with grease, dust, rain or a
damp environment.
A h e a v y o b j e c t a t t a c h e d t o t h e k e y
(key ring, ...) weighing down on the
shaft of the key in the ignition switch
may cause a malfunction.
Running and accessories position.

Starting position.
The starter is operated. Diesel pre-heating warning
light
Turn the key to the Running
position.
In cold weather, wait for this warning
light to switch off then operate the
starter (Starting position) until the
engine starts.
If the temperature is high enough, the
warning light comes on for less than
one second, you can start without
waiting. Good practice when stopping
Minimise engine and gearbox wear
When switching off the ignition, let the
engine run for a few seconds to allow
t h e t u r b o c h a r g e r t o r e t u r n t o i d l e .
Do not press the accelerator when
switching off the ignition.
There is no need to engage a gear
after parking the vehicle.

Automatic switching on of the lights

HANDBRAKE
HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS
Press the button, the direction
i n d i c a t o r s fl a s h .
They can operate with the ignition off.
Automatic lighting of hazard
warning lights
Equipment conditioned according
to country: when braking in an
emergency, depending on the
deceleration, the hazard warning lights
come on automatically. They switch
o f f a u t o m a t i c a l l y t h e fi r s t t i m e y o u
accelerate.
It is also possible to switch them off by
pressing the button.
DRIVING SAFETY
Applying
When parking, pull the handbrake to
immobilize your vehicle. When parking
on a slope, direct your wheels towards
the pavement and pull the handbrake.
Releasing
Pull on the handle and press the button
to release the handbrake. Pull the button located at the end of the
handbrake forwards.
The handbrake lever lowers.
You can now pivot the seat.
To return to normal operation, pull the
lever upwards until a click is heard.
If the handbrake is still on or has
not been released properly, this is
indicated by:
Disengaging
Apply the handbrake. a warning light which comes
on on the instrument panel,
an audible signal,
a message on the display.

Airbags
Disarming
The passenger’s front air bag alone can be disarmed:
With the ignition switched off,insert the key into the passenger air bag disarming switch,
turn it to the "OFF" position,
then remove the key keeping the slot in this position.
Front air bags
The front air bags are incorporated in the
centre of the steering wheel for the driver
and in the fascia for the front passenger.
Front air bag fault
If this warning light comes on, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the display, consult a PEUGEOT dealer to have the system checked.
Reactivation
In the "OFF" position, the passenger air bag will not be triggered in the event of an impact.
As soon as the child seat is removed, turn the air bag slot to the "ON"position to re-activate the air bag and thus ensure the safety of your passenger in the event of an impact.
To ensure the safety of your child, it is essential to disarm the passenger air bag when you install a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat. Otherwise, the child would risk being killed or seriously i n j u r e d i f t h e a i r b a g w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
The air bag warning light on the instrument panel is lit throughout the period of disarming.
If the two air bag warning lights are lit continuously, do not install a rear-facing child seat. Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Activation
They are deployed simultaneously, unless the passenger’s front air bag has been disarmed, in the event of a serious front impact applied to all or part of the front impact zone A in the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal plane directed from the front towards the rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n the front occupant of the vehicle and the fascia to cushion his forward movement.

Side air bags
I f fi t t e d o n y o u r v e h i c l e , t h i s i s a
system which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a
serious side impact in order to limit the
risk of injury to the chest.
Each side air bag is incorporated in the
front seat back frame, on the door side. T h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n
the front or rear occupant of the vehicle
and the windows.
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone. In the event of a minor impact or
bump on the side of the vehicle or
if the vehicle rolls over, the air bag
may not be triggered.
The air bag is not triggered in the event
of a rear or front collision.
Operating fault
Curtain air bags
I f fi t t e d o n y o u r v e h i c l e , t h i s i s a
system which protects the driver and
passengers (with the exception of the
centre seats of rows 2 and 3) in the
event of a serious side impact in order
to limit the risk of head injuries.
Each curtain air bag is incorporated
in the pillars and the upper part of the
passenger compartment.
Activation
It is triggered unilaterally in the event
of a serious side impact applied to
all or part of the side impact zone
B ,
perpendicular to the longitudinal
centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane and directed from the outside
towards the inside of the vehicle.

front occupant of the vehicle and the
corresponding door trim pad. Activation
It is triggered at the same time as the
corresponding side air bag in the event
of a serious side impact applied to
all or part of the side impact zone
B ,

centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal
plane and directed from the outside
towards the inside of the vehicle. If this warning light comes
on on the instrument panel,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the
display, consult a PEUGEOT
dealer to have the system
checked. The air bags may no longer
be triggered in the event of a serious
impact.

Levels These regular maintenance
operations will keep your vehicle
in good running order. Consult the
instructions at PEUGEOT dealerships
or in the servicing booklet enclosed in
the handbook pack. To maintain the reliability of engines
and emission control systems, the use
of additives in engine oil is prohibited.
Oil change
It is imperative that this is carried out at
t h e i n t e r v a l s s p e c i fi e d a n d t h e v i s c o s i t y
g r a d e o f t h e o i l s e l e c t e d m u s t f u l fi l t h e
requirements in accordance with the
manufacturer's servicing schedule.
Consult the instructions at PEUGEOT
dealerships .
R e m o v e t h e d i p s t i c k b e f o r e fi l l i n g .
C h e c k t h e l e v e l a f t e r fi l l i n g
(never exceed the max mark).
Screw the cap back onto the sump
before closing the bonnet.
LEVELS

with care to avoid damaging

Dipstick Warning lights
Oil level
Check the level regularly and top up
between changes. The maximum
consumption is 0.5 litre per 600 miles
(1 000 km).
Check the level with the vehicle level,
engine cold, using the dipstick.
Viscosity selection
In all cases, the oil selected must meet
the manufacturer's requirements. Checking by means of the
warning lights on the instrument
panel is described in chapter 2,
"Instruments and controls" section.
Changing the brake fluid
T h e b r a k e fl u i d m u s t b e c h a n g e d a t
the intervals stated, according to the
manufacturer's servicing schedule.

standards.
The level must be between the MIN
and MAX marks on the reservoir.
I f fl u i d h a s t o b e a d d e d f r e q u e n t l y ,
this indicates a failure which must be
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer as
soon as possible.
There are two marks
on the dipstick:
A = maximum
I f y o u fi l l p a s t t h i s
mark, contact a
PEUGEOT dealer .
B = minimum
Never allow the level
to fall below this
mark.

Changing a fuse
CHANGING A FUSE
T h e f u s e b o x e s a r e l o c a t e d i n :
- the instrument panel lower glove b o x ( r i g h t - h a n d s i d e ) ,
- the battery compartment ( r i g h t - h a n d s i d e fl o o r ) ,
- the engine compartment.
The spare fuses and special pliers A
a r e fi x e d t o t h e i n s i d e o f t h e l i d o f t h e
i n s t r u m e n t p a n e l f u s e b o x . Before changing a fuse you must
establish the cause of the fault and
have it corrected. The fuse numbers
a r e i n d i c a t e d o n t h e f u s e b o x .
- Use the special pliers
A .
Always change a faulty fuse for one
of the same rating.
Removing and changing a fuse
PEUGEOT will not accept
responsibility for the cost incurred in
repairing your vehicle or for rectifying
the malfunctions resulting from the
installation of accessories not supplied
and not recommended by PEUGEOT
and not installed in accordance with
its instructions, in particular when
the combined consumption of all of
the additional equipment connected
e x c e e d s 1 0 m i l l i a m p e r e s .
