Handbrake and lowbrake fluid level war-ning With the engine running,
the warning lamp indicates that the handbrake is on, or is not fullyreleased, or that the brake fluid
level is too low. See Chapter II - Ç Brakes È and Chapter IV Ç Levels È.
Battery charge Must not light when the engine is running. If it
lights continuously, con-
tact your nearest dealer. Low coolant level If the warning lamp comes on: stop the vehicle.
Check the level (see chapter IV -Maintenance - Ç Levels È).
Engine oil pressure If it comes on while driving, stop the engine and checkthe level (refer to section IV
Ð Maintenance Ç Levels È). If it remains on, despite the level being correct, contact the nearest
dealer.
Low level fuel warning
When it comes on conti-
nuously, there areapproximately 6 litres offuel left in the tank. Coolant temperaturewarning lamp If the warning lamp
comes on, stop immediately, switch
off the engine - the cooling fan maycontinue to operate for a period
after switching off - and allow tocool before checking the coolantlevel, taking the necessary precau-tions (refer to section IV ÐMaintenance - Ç Levels È). Engine overheating can have various causes. Contact your nea-
rest dealer.
On TURBO DIESEL versions:
¥ Orange lamp on = warning.
Reduce speed, the lamp should go out.
¥ STOP and orange warning lamps
on = Danger (stop immediately).

Power steering oil Check the level with the engine
switched off. The level should be between the maximum
and minimum marks on
the reservoir. Never run the engine without oil in the pump reservoir; the pump willbe severely damaged and couldseize. Oil quality: see Ç Lubricants and
fluids È. Engine oilCheck with the vehicle on level
ground, and the engine off for atleast 10 minutes.
Take out the oil dipstick.The level must be between the MAX
and MIN marks on the dips-
tick. Adding engine oil Remove the dipstick before topping up. Check the level after filling.It must not exceed the maximum mark. The oil level should be topped up between services (up to 0.5 l every600 miles). Screw on the cap before shutting the bonnet. Oil quality:

fluids È.

Topping up the cooling system The coolant level should be between the MAXIMUM and MINIMUM marks on the header tank.
Top up the level. If more than I litre is required to top up, have
the cooling system checked by your dealer. Ensure that the cap is fully tightened to the second notch. Note:
Frequent topping up could indicate a fault within the cooling system.
Have it checked as soon as possible.The replacement of the coolant must be carried out by the dealer network. Coolant The antifreeze in the coolant protects against low temperatures and provides anti-corrosion protection and resistance to high operating temperatures.However these properties degrade progressively with time. Oil quality: see Ç Lubricants and fluids È.
Radiator - coolantThe coolant must only be checked or topped up if the engine is cold. Engine hot:
Wait 15 minutes or until the tempe- rature is below 100 degrees C.Using a cloth to protect your hands,slowly slacken the filler cap as far
as the safety catch. Allow the pres-sure to reduce before removingfiller cap.

see Ç Capacities È. Brake fluidThe synthetic fluid not only gives protection against corrosion but also ensures correct functioning of the braking system in all environmental conditions, the-refore you should only use the synthetic product recommended by the manu-
facturer. (this fluid must be replaced every two years). These important requirements are detailed in your vehicle's Maintenance Guide. Oil quality:
see Ç Lubricants and fluids È.
Brake fluid reservoirCheck and top up at regular inter- vals.
Level: The level should be between the
maximum and minimum
marks on the reservoir. If the warning lamp comes on while you are driving, stop immediatelyand make contact with a dealer ofthe network.

Air conditioning
The air conditioning system will only operate with the engine running. Press the switch Aon the dashboard.
A warning lamp confirms that the system is switched on.
For the air conditioning to be fully effective, the windows should be closed. The system contains a non-polluting CFC sub- stitute. If after a prolonged stop in direct sunlight the inside of the car is hot, leave the windows openfor a few minutes to provide a rapid air change,then close them.
Air recycling
To obtain the most effective cooling in the pas-senger compartment in very hot conditions,select the recycling position. Set control Bto the left, and place the heater
blower control Din the mid-way position.
It is recommended that the control not be left in the recycling position for longer than necessa-
ry. The normal position will provide a conti-nuous fresh air supply to the passenger com-partment. Rapid demisting Switch on the air conditioning.Set the control to the fresh air position and air flow to
maximum.Select the demisting position using control C.
Set the temperature control to maximum. Note: A normal consequence of having the air conditioning turned
on is that water condenses on the surface of the air conditioner. This drains out through a specially provided hole and may form apuddle under the car when parked.
To maintain effective operation of the compressor seals, ope- rate the air conditioning at least once a month. The air conditioning is useful even in winteras it can be used to
remove moisture from the air.
