Opening the bonnet

OPENING THE BONNET
Bonnet strut
Secure the strut in its location,
i d e n t i fi e d b y a s t i c k e r o n t h e l e f t - h a n d
panel side of the vehicle, to hold the
bonnet open.
Before closing the bonnet, put the strut
b a c k i n i t s c l i p w i t h o u t u s i n g e x c e s s i v e
force.
On the outside
Raise the bonnet slightly by reaching
i n a fl a t h a n d , p a l m d o w n , t o m a k e
access to the lever easier.
With this hand, push the lever to the
left. Raise the bonnet.
On the inside
Pull the lever under the fascia panel
t o w a r d s y o u . T h e b o n n e t i s u n l o c k e d .
To close
Lower the bonnet and release it at the
e n d o f i t s t r a v e l . C h e c k t h a t t h e b o n n e t
i s l o c k e d .
Avoid manoeuvring the bonnet in
strong winds.

consumption is 0.5 litre per 600 miles

Levels
Cooling system
O n l y u s e t h e fl u i d r e c o m m e n d e d b y t h e
manufacturer.
O t h e r w i s e , y o u r i s k s e r i o u s l y d a m a g i n g
your engine.
When the engine is warm, the
temperature of the coolant is controlled
by the engine fan. As this fan can
o p e r a t e w i t h t h e i g n i t i o n k e y r e m o v e d
and because the cooling system is
pressurised, wait for at least one hour
after the engine has stopped before
c a r r y i n g o u t a n y w o r k .
S l a c k e n t h e c a p b y 1 / 4 o f a t u r n t o
release the pressure to prevent any
r i s k o f s c a l d i n g . W h e n t h e p r e s s u r e
has dropped, remove the cap and top
up the level with coolant.
I f fl u i d h a s t o b e a d d e d f r e q u e n t l y ,
this indicates a failure which must be
c h e c k e d b y a P E U G E O T d e a l e r a s
soon as possible. Power steering fluid level
T h e v e h i c l e m u s t b e p a r k e d o n l e v e l
ground with the engine cold. Unscrew
the cap integrated with the gauge and
c h e c k t h e l e v e l w h i c h m u s t b e b e t w e e n
t h e M I N a n d M A X m a r k s .
I n o r d e r t o r e g e n e r a t e t h e fi l t e r , y o u a r e
advised to drive at a speed higher than
4 0 m p h ( 6 0 k m / h ) f o r a t l e a s t
fi v e m i n u t e s a s s o o n a s p o s s i b l e ,
w h e n t r a f fi c c o n d i t i o n s p e r m i t ( u n t i l t h e
message disappears and the service
w a r n i n g l i g h t i s s w i t c h e d o f f ) .
During regeneration of the particle
e m i s s i o n fi l t e r , r e l a y n o i s e m a y b e
heard under the fascia.
If the message is still displayed and if
the service warning light remains on,
consult a PEUGEOT dealer .
Topping up
T h e l e v e l m u s t b e b e t w e e n t h e M I N

b o t t l e . I f m o r e t h a n 1 l i t r e o f fl u i d i s
required to top up the level, have
t h e s y s t e m c h e c k e d b y a P E U G E O T
dealer . Windscreen wash and headlamp
wash level
For best quality cleaning and for your
safety, we would advise that you use
products of the PEUGEOT range.
For optimum cleaning and to avoid
f r e e z i n g , t h i s fl u i d m u s t n o t b e t o p p e d
up or replaced with water.
Capacity of the screenwash reservoir:
a p p r o x i m a t e l y 4 . 5 l i t r e s .
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h h e a d l a m p
washers, the capacity of the reservoir
is 7.5 litres.
Diesel additive level
(Diesel with particle
emission filter)
The minimum level of this
additive is indicated by lighting of the
service warning light, accompanied by
an audible signal and a message on
the display.
When this occurs with the engine
running it is due to the start of
s a t u r a t i o n o f t h e p a r t i c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r
( e x c e p t i o n a l l y p r o l o n g e d u r b a n t y p e
driving conditions: low speed, long
t r a f fi c j a m s , . . . ) . Topping up
It is imperative that this additive is
topped up by a PEUGEOT dealer
without delay.
Used oil
Avoid prolonged contact of used oil
w i t h t h e s k i n .
B r a k e fl u i d i s h a r m f u l t o h e a l t h a n d
very corrosive.
D o n o t d i s p o s e o f u s e d o i l , b r a k e fl u i d
or coolant into drains or into the ground
but into the containers dedicated to this
use at PEUGEOT dealer .

Bleeding the water contained in
the diesel filter
Manual gearbox
H a v e t h e l e v e l c h e c k e d i n a c c o r d a n c e
with the manufacturer's servicing
schedule.
Only use products recommended
by PEUGEOT or products
of equivalent quality and
s p e c i fi c a t i o n .
In order to optimise the operation
o f u n i t s a s i m p o r t a n t a s t h e b r a k i n g
system, PEUGEOT selects and offers
s p e c i fi c p r o d u c t s .
In order to avoid damaging the
electrical units, high pressure washing
to clean the engine compartment is
strictly prohibited.
If this warning light comes
o n , b l e e d t h e fi l t e r . O t h e r w i s e
bleed regularly each time the
engine is drained.
To evacuate the water,
unscrew the bleed screw located on
t h e fi l t e r .
Operate until all of the water in the
transparent pipe has been drained out
then tighten the bleed screw.

c o n t i n u e a f t e r t h e 3 r d c u t - o f f o f t h e
nozzle. This could cause malfunctions.

FUEL CIRCUIT DISARMED

automatically prevents fuel from
reaching the engine.

DIESEL REPRIMING PUMP
If you should run out of fuel, it is
n e c e s s a r y t o r e - p r i m e t h e c i r c u i t :
- fi l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel,
- s q u e e z e a n d r e l e a s e t h e m a n u a l r e - p r i m i n g p u m p , u n d e r t h e b o n n e t
under the protective cover,
- o p e r a t e t h e s t a r t e r u n t i l t h e e n g i n e starts.
Refer to the "Under the bonnet"
section of chapter 6.
W h e n fi l l i n g w i t h f u e l , w i t h t h e f u e l
fi l l e r fl a p o p e n , e n s u r e t h a t n o o n e
attempts to open the sliding side
door.
W h e n t h e m i n i m u m f u e l t a n k
level is reached, this warning
light comes on.
You then have approximately 8 litres
of fuel remaining. Fill up without delay
to avoid running out of fuel.

BATTERY
Before disconnecting the battery, you
must wait for 2 minutes after switching
off the ignition.
Never disconnect a terminal when the
engine is running.
N e v e r c h a r g e a b a t t e r y w i t h o u t fi r s t
disconnecting the terminals.
After every reconnection of the battery,
switch on the ignition and wait 1 minute
before starting to allow the electronic
systems to be initialised. If slight
d i f fi c u l t i e s a r e e x p e r i e n c e d a f t e r t h i s ,
p l e a s e c o n t a c t a P E U G E O T d e a l e r .
After changing bulbs, wait
a p p r o x i m a t e l y 3 m i n u t e s b e f o r e
reconnecting the battery. It is advisable to disconnect the
battery if the vehicle is not to be used
f o r a p e r i o d o f m o r e t h a n o n e m o n t h .
To charge the battery using a
battery charger
- Disconnect the battery,
- Follow the instructions for use
given by the battery charger
manufacturer,
- Reconnect starting with the negative (-) terminal,
- Check that the terminals and connectors are clean. If they are
c o v e r e d w i t h s u l p h a t e ( w h i t e o r
g r e e n i s h d e p o s i t ) , d i s c o n n e c t t h e m
and clean them.
To start the vehicle from
another battery
- Connect the red cable to the p o s i t i v e ( + ) t e r m i n a l s o f t h e t w o
batteries,
- Connect one end of the green or black cable to the negative (-)
terminal of the slave battery,
- Connect the other end of the green o r b l a c k c a b l e t o a n e a r t h p o i n t o n
the broken down vehicle as far as
p o s s i b l e f r o m t h e b a t t e r y ,
- O p e r a t e t h e s t a r t e r , l e t t h e e n g i n e run,
- Wait for the engine to return to idle, then disconnect the cables. A f t e r t h e e n g i n e h a s s t o p p e d , w i t h
t h e k e y i n t h e i g n i t i o n p o s i t i o n , c e r t a i n
f u n c t i o n s ( w i n d s c r e e n w i p e r , e l e c t r i c
windows, courtesy lights, audio
e q u i p m e n t , e t c . ) c a n o n l y b e u s e d f o r a
cumulative duration of thirty minutes, to
p r e v e n t d i s c h a r g i n g o f t h e b a t t e r y .
O n c e t h e t h i r t y m i n u t e s a r e o v e r , t h e
a c t i v e f u n c t i o n s a r e p u t o n s t a n d b y
a n d t h e b a t t e r y w a r n i n g l i g h t fl a s h e s
a c c o m p a n i e d b y a m e s s a g e o n t h e
d i s p l a y .
T o r e s u m e t h e u s e o f t h e s e f u n c t i o n s
immediately, start the engine and let it
run for a few minutes.
T h e t i m e a v a i l a b l e w i l l t h e n b e d o u b l e
the time for which the engine was left
running. However, this time will always
b e b e t w e e n fi v e a n d t h i r t y m i n u t e s .
A fl a t b a t t e r y w i l l p r e v e n t t h e e n g i n e
from starting.

- Remove the centre cover by p u l l i n g t h e fl e x i b l e r u b b e r t a b .
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the retaining tab.
- Change the bulb taking care t o a l i g n t h e m e t a l p a r t w i t h t h e
grooves on the light.
- R e p o s i t i o n t h e r e t a i n i n g t a b .
- E n s u r e t h a t t h e c o v e r i s r e fi t t e d c o r r e c t l y o v e r i t s e n t i r e p e r i p h e r y
to guarantee sealing.

p o s i t i o n .

the rear doors to 180°.
Refer to the "Accesses" section of c h a p t e r 2 .
- R e m o v e t h e t w o fi x i n g b o l t s u s i n g the screwdriver stored in the tool kit
under the right-hand seat.
- P u l l t h e l i g h t u n i t f r o m t h e o u t s i d e .
- Holding the light, disconnect the electrical connector. - M o v e a s i d e t h e 4 t a b s t h e n e x t r a c t
the bulb holder.
- Remove the faulty bulb by p r e s s i n g i t l i g h t l y w h i l e t u r n i n g i t
anticlockwise.
- Change the bulb.
When removing the light unit:
- w i t h t a i l g a t e , p u l l t h e l i g h t u n i t
towards the centre of the vehicle,
- w i t h h i n g e d d o o r s , p u l l t h e l i g h t u n i t towards you.
W h e n r e fi t t i n g , t a k e c a r e t o
r e p o s i t i o n t h e t a b s a n d t h e s u p p l y
w i r e c o r r e c t l y t o a v o i d t r a p p i n g t h e
wire.
After changing the rear direction
indicator bulb, the reinitialisation time is
m o r e t h a n a p p r o x i m a t e l y 2 m i n u t e s .
High pressure washing
W h e n u s i n g t h i s t y p e o f w a s h i n g
o n s t u b b o r n d i r t , d o n o t p e r s i s t
o n t h e h e a d l a m p s , t h e l i g h t s a n d
their surround to avoid damaging their
coating and their seal.
