Systems

TheAirbagsincombinationwiththesafetybelts
makesupasafetysystemwhichoffersthe
driverandthepassengerthegreatestknown
protectionfrominjuriesincaseofaccident.
Evenifyourvehicleisequippedwithairbags,

thesafetybeltsmustbewornatalltimes,

becausethefrontairbagsystemisonlyactu-
atedbyfrontalcollisionswithanimpactofsuffi-
cientseverity.

Belowtheactuationthresholdoftheairbagsys-
tem,andduringtypesofcollisionswhichdonot
causetheactuationofthesystem,thesafety
beltsprovidetheprimaryprotectiontotheoccu-
pantswhencorrectlyworn.
Therefore,allpersonswithin
thevehicle
mustalwayswearsafety
belts(inmany
states,statelawrequirestheuseofsafety
belts).Seealsothechapter"SafetyBelts".
Thefrontairbagsarelocatedbehindthepadded
steeringwheelpanelonthedriver'ssideandon
thepassenger'ssideinthedashboard.
Thesideairbags(POSIP-PorscheSideImpact
ProtectionSystem)areinstalledinthedoors
underthedoortrimpanel.
Function
Thefrontairbagsaretriggeredduringafrontal
collisionofsufficientforce.
Intheeventofasideimpactofcorresponding
force,thesideairbagontheimpactsideistrig-
gered.
Theinflationprocessgeneratestheamountof
gasrequiredtofilltheairbagsatthenecessary
pressureinfractionsofasecond.
Airbagsprotectthefaceandupperbody,whilst
simultaneouslydampingthemotionofthedriver
andpassengerintheimpactdirectioninthe
eventofafrontalimpactorsideimpact.

optimaloccupantprotection,
airbagsmustinflateatveryhighspeed.
Ifyouarenotwearingyoursafetybeltor
aretooclosetotheairbagwhenitsde-
ployed,inflatingairbagscanresultin
seriousinjuryordeath.

Lightalloywheels

Alsoreferto"Carwashes".
Pittingmayoccurifmetallicparticleswhich
causecontactcorrosion(e.g.brassorcopperin
brakedust)areallowedtoremainonthealu-
minumfortoolong.
I>Ifpossible,washthewheelswithaspongeor
washbrushabouteverytwoweeks.Inareas
wheresaltisspreadonwinterroadsorthere
isalotofairborneindustrialdust,itisbestto
cleanthewheelsweekly.

ThePorscheLightAlloyWheelCleaner
(ph-value9.5)canbeusedforthispur-
pose.
Iftheph-valueofthedetergentisincor-
rect,theprotectivecoatingonthewheels
willbedestroyed.
Polisheswhichdissolveoxides,suchas
thosefrequentlyusedforothermetals,or
abrasivetoolsoragentsareunsuitablebe-
causetheybreakdowntheoxidefilmof
theprotectivecoatingandwillcausedisco-
lorationofthewheel.

Everythreemonths,aftercleaning,coatthe
wheelswithacarwaxornon-corrosive
grease(vaseline).
Usingacleancloththoroughlyrubthegrease
intothesurface.

Leather
Characteristicsandspecialfeatures

Thenaturalsurfacemarkingsofleather,e.g.
creases,healedscars,insectstingmarks,struc-
turaldifferencesandslightvariationsinshade
andgrainaddtotheattractivenessofthenatu-
ralleatherproduct.
Aspecialmentionmustbemadehereofnatural
leather.
Fornaturalleather,carefullyselectedhidesof
thehighestqualityareused.Itisnotcovered
completelywithdyeonproduction.
"Nature'ssignature"isthereforeeasilyrecognis-
able.
Thisfinematerialisdistinguishedbyanout-
standingseatingcomfort,specialsuppleness
andatypicalpatina.

Leathercareandtreatment

Cleanalltypesofleatherregularlytoremove
finedustusingasoft,damp,whitewoollen
clothoracommerciallyavailablemicrofibre
cloth.

RemoveheavycontaminationwithPorsche
leathercleaner.
Pleasealwaysfollowtheinstructionsforuse
givenonthecontainers.

Causticcleanersandhardcleaningobjects
mustnotbeused.
Perforatedleathermustundernocircum-
stancesgetwetonitsreverseside.

Oncecleaned,leather(particularlytheheavily
stressedleatherseats)mustbetreatedonly
withPorscheleathercareliquid.
