Danger!

Theenginecompartmentofanymotorvehicleisapotentiallyhazardousarea.Ifyouarenotfullyfamiliarwithproperrepairprocedures,donotattempttheadjustmentsdescribedonthefollowingpages.Thiscautionappliestotheentirevehicle.
Onlyworkonyourvehicleoutdoorsorinawellventilatedarea.
Ensurethattherearenoopenflamesintheareaofyourvehicleatanytimewhenfuelfumesmightbepresent.Beespeciallycautiousofsuchdevicessuchashotwaterheaterswhichigniteaflameintermittently.
Beforeworkingonanypartintheenginecom-partment,turntheengineoffandletitcooldownsufficiently.Hotenginecompartmentcomponentscanburnskinoncontact.
Bealertandcautiousaroundengineatalltimeswhiletheengineisrunning.Ifworkhastobeperformedwiththeenginerunning,alwayssettheparkingbrake,andmakesuretheshiftleverisinneutralortheselectorleverisinpositionPorN.
Inparticular,beverycarefultoensurethatitemsofclothing(ties,shirt,sleevesetc.),jewelry,longhair,handorfingerscannotgetcaughtintheengine-compartmentblower,fan,beltsorothermovingparts.Theradiatorandradiatorfansareinthefrontofthecar.Thefanscanstartorcontinuerunningasafunctionoftemperature,evenwiththeengineswitchedoff.Carryoutworkintheseareasonlywiththeengineoffandexerciseextremecaution.
YourPorscheisequippedwithanelectronicignitionsystem.Whentheignitionison,highvoltageispresentinallwiresconnectedwiththeignitionsystem;therefore,exerciseextremecautionwhenworkingonanypartoftheenginewhiletheignitionisonortheengineisrunning.
Alwayssupportyourcarwithsafetystandsifitisnecessarytoworkunderthecar.Jacksarenotsuitableforthiskindofwork.
Whenworkingunderthecarwithoutsafetystandsbutwiththewheelsontheground,makesurethecarisonlevelground,thewheelsareblocked,andthattheenginecannotbestarted.Removetheignitionkey.
Donotsmokeorallowanopenflamearoundthebatteryorfuel.Keepafireextinguisherinclosereach.
Incompleteorimproperservicingmaycauseproblemsintheoperationofthecar.Ifindoubtaboutanyservicing,haveitdonebyyourauthorizedPorschedealer.ImpropermaintenanceduringthewarrantyperiodmayaffectyourPorschewarrantycoverage.
Suppliesoffluids,e.g.engineoil,brakefluidorcoolant,arehazardoustoyourhealth.Keepthesefluidsoutofchildren’sreachanddisposeoftheminaccordancewiththeappropriateregulations.
Somecountriesrequireadditionaltoolsandspecialsparepartstobecarried.Pleasemakeenquiriesbeforedrivingabroad.

Tires/Wheels
TheoriginalequipmenttiresandwheelrimsonyourPorschecomplywithallapplicableFederalMotorVehicleSafetyStandards.
Foryoursafetyrememberthefollowing:
–WheelrimsandwheelboltsarematchedtofityourPorsche.
–Ifyouintendtouseotherthanoriginalequip-mentwheels,besurethattheyconformtoPorschespecificationsforyourmodel.Onlytireswiththesamemakeandwiththesamespecificationcode(e.g.“N0”,“N1”...)canbemounted.
–Theuseofwheelrimsandwheelboltsthatdonotmeetspecificationsoftheoriginalfactoryinstalledequipmentwillaffectthesafeoperationofyourvehicle.
–Beforeyouplanonexchangingwheels,orsnowtiresalreadymountedonthewheelrims,consultyourauthorizedPorschedealer.Yourdealerhasthetechnicalinformationnecessarytoadviseyouwhichwheelrimsandwheelboltsarecompatiblewiththeoriginalfactoryinstallations.

Thetreadweargradeisacomparativeratingbasedonthewearrateofthetirewhentestedundercontrolledconditionsonaspecificgovernmenttestcourse.Forexample,atiregraded150would

wearoneandahalf(1-1/2)timesaswellonthegovernmentcourseasatiregraded100.Therelativeperformanceoftiresdependsupontheactualconditionsoftheiruse,however,andmaydepartsignificantlyfromthenormduetovariationsindrivinghabits,servicepracticesanddifferencesinroadcharacteristicsandclimate.
TemperatureA,B,C
ThetemperaturegradesareA(thehighest),BandC,representingthetire’sresistancetothegenerationofheatanditsabilitytodissipateheatwhentestedundercontrolledconditionsonaspecifiedindoorlaboratorytestwheel.Sustainedhightemperaturescancausethematerialofthetiretodegenerateandreducetirelife,andexcessivetemperaturecanleadtosuddentirefailure.ThegradeCcorrespondstoalevelofperformancewhichallpassengercartiresmustmeetundertheFederalMotorVehicleSafetyStandardNo.109.GradesBandArepresenthigherlevelsofperformanceonthelaboratorytestwheelthantheminimumrequiredbylaw.

Tirelife
Tirelifedependsonvariousfactors,i.e.,roadsurfaces,trafficandweatherconditions,drivinghabits,typeoftiresandtirecare.
Inspectyourtiresforwearanddamagebeforedrivingoff.Ifyounoticeunevenorsubstantialwear,wheelsmightneedalignmentortiresshouldbebalancedorreplaced.

Tirewear
TheoriginalequipmenttiresonyourPorschehavebuilt-intirewearindicators.Theyaremoldedintothebottomofthetreadgroovesandwillappearasapproximately1/2in.(12mm)bandswhenthetiretreaddepthisdownto1/16ofanin.(1.6mm).
Whentheindicatorsappearintwoormoreadjacentgrooves,itistimetoreplacethetires.Werecommend,however,thatyoudonotletthetiresweardowntothisextent.Worntirescannotgriptheroadsurfaceproperlyandareevenlesseffectiveonwetroads.
IntheUnitedStates,statelawsmaygoverntheminimumtreaddepthpermissible.Followallsuchlaws.

Drivingonworntirescanresultinlossofcontrolofthevehicleandcouldcauseseriouspersonalinjuriesordeath.
Donotdrivewithworntiresortiresshowingcutsorbruisesastheymayleadtosuddendeflationandlossofcontrolwhichcouldcauseseverepersonalinjury.
Specializedhighperformancetiresonhighperformancesportscarsexhibitmorewearthanthoseonafamilysedan,orevenahighperformancesedan.Therefore,itisimportanttocheckyourtirepressureandconditionatleasteverytwoweeks.

Avoiddamagingtiresandwheelrims.
Ifyoumustdriveoveracurborotherobstacle,driveslowlyandatanobtuseangle.
Checktiresforunevenwearanddamagebeforedrivingoff.
Removeimbeddedmaterial.
Replacewornordamagedtiresimmediately.
Keepoil,fuel,brakefluid,etc.awayfromtires.
Replacemissingvalvestemcaps.
Keeptiresinflatedcorrectly.
Washtireswhenwashingthevehicle.Alsocleaninnersideofwheels.
Donotuseabrasivecleanerswhenwashingthewheels.
Checkwheelrimsforcorrosion.
Removeroadsalt,ifdrivinginwinter.
Tiredamage,puncture
Checktiresforimbeddedmaterial,cuts,punctures,cracksandbulges(sidewall)beforedrivingoff.
Incaseoftiredamage,whereitisuncertainwhetherthereisabreakintheplywithallitsconsequencesortiredamagecausedbythermalormechanicaloverloadingduetolossofpressureoranyotherpriordamage,werecommendthatthetirebereplacedforsafetyreasons.
Ifonefaultytireisreplaceditshouldbenotedthatthedifferenceintreaddepthononeaxlemustnotexceed30%.Handlinginconsistenciesmayresult.
Performavisualinspectionifnecessary.

Incasesofdoubt,havethewheel(particularlytheinnerside)checkedbyanauthorizedPorschedealer.
Tirereplacements
Ifindoubt,contactyourPorschedealer.UseonlytiremakesandtypesapprovedbyPorsche.
IfyoudonotuseaPorscherecommendedreplacementtire,makesurethatyoupur-chaseyournewtiresfromareputabletiredealerandthatthedealercomplieswithallmanufacturerswarningsforthosetires.
Onlytireswiththesamemakeandwiththesamespecicationcode(e.g.“N0”,“N1”...)canbemounted.
Beforemountingnewtires,checkwithyourPorschedealeraboutthecurrentreleasestatus.
Usetireswith“ZR”qualitystandards.Therearecurrentlynostandardsconcerningtirestrengthatspeedsabove150mph(240km/h).
Tiresshouldbereplacednolessthanononeaxleatthetime.Onlytiresofthesamemakeandtypemustbeused.Mixedtiresarenotpermissible.
Initially,newtiresdonothavetheirfulltraction.Youshouldthereforedriveatmoderatespeedsduringthefirst60-120miles(100-200km).
Ifnewtiresareinstalledonlyononeaxle,anoticeablechangeinhandlingoccursduetothedifferenttreaddepthoftheothertires.Thishappensespeciallyifonlyreartiresarereplaced.However,thisconditiondisappearsasthenewtiresarebrokenin.
Pleaseadjustyourdrivingstyleaccordingly.
Installationofnewtiresshouldonlybedonebyaqualifiedtiretechnician.
Valves
Rubbervalvestemsmustbereplacedeverytimeatireisreplaced.Formetalvalves,theinstallationandreplacementinstructionsmustbeobserved.
UseonlygenuinePorschemetalvalves.
Protectthevalveinsertsagainstsoilingwithvalvecaps.Soiledvalveinsertscancauseagraduallossofair.

Parkingatthecurb

Ifyoumustdriveoveracurborotherobstacle,driveslowlyandatanobtuseangle.Exercisecarewhenparkingalongcurbs.
Wheelalignment,wheelbalancing
Asaprecaution,havewheelswithsummertiresbalancedinthespring,andthosewithmudandsnowtiresbeforewinter.Unbalancedwheelsmayaffectcarhandlingandtirelife.Onlythespecifiedweightsmaybeusedforwheelbalancing.Self-adhesiveweightsmustnotcomeintocontactwithcleaningagents,sincetheycoulddropoff.Uneventreadwearindicateswheelimbalance.Inthisevent,thevehicleshouldbecheckedatanauthorizedPorschedealer.

If,duringatrip,unevenrunningorvibrationsoccurthatcouldbecausedbydamagetotiresorthecar,thespeedmustbereducedimmediately,butwithoutbrakingsharply.Ifyoucontinueyourtripwithouthavingthecauseofthefaultremedied,youmightlosecontrolofyourvehiclewhichcouldcauseseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.

Removingandstoringtires
Afterchanging,adjusttirepressureandtorquewheelboltsdiagonallyto94ft.lb.(130Nm).
Tiresmustalwaysremainonthesamesideofthevehicle.Whenwheelsareremoved,thedirectionofrotationandpositionofeachwheelshouldbemarked.

Wheelsmustalwaysbefittedinaccordancewiththeirmarking.
Theperceptionthattiredurabilityandperformanceareimmunetotheeffectsofstorageandageisunfounded.Chemicaladditives,whichmaketherubberelastic,losetheireffectivenessinthecourseoftimeandtherubberbecomesbrittleandcracks.
Therefore,thetiresshouldbeinspectedfromtimetotime.
