Anunlockedcarwiththekeyintheignitionlockinvitescartheft.
AsteeringwheellockandagongalarmarestandardequipmentinyourPorsche.Thegongalarmwillsoundifyouopenthedriver’sdoorwhilethekeyisstillintheignitionlock.Itisyourremindertopullthekeyoutoftheignitionlockandtolockthedoors.
Warning!
Anyuncontrolledmovementofthevehiclemayresultinpropertydamage,seriouspersonalinjuryordeath.Neverleaveyourvehicleunattendedwiththekeyintheignitionlock,especiallyifchildrenand/orpetsareleftunattendedinthevehicle.Theycanoperatepowerwindowsandothercontrols.Iftheengineisleftrunning,theymayaccidentallyengagetheshiftlever.Seriouspersonalinjuryordeathcouldresultfromlossofcontrolofthevehicle.

GeneralinformationregardingPSM
PSMisanactivecontrolsystemforstabilizationofthevehicleduringextremedrivingmaneuvers.
Warning!
Riskofanaccident,resultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.Theincreasedcontrolthatisprovidedshouldnotinduceyoutotakegreaterriskswithyoursafety.Thelimitsdictatedbythelawsofphysicscannotbeovercome,evenwithPSM.Theriskofaccidentsduetoinappropriatespeedcannotbereduced,evenbyPSM.Thedriverbearstheresponsibilityforalldrivingmaneuvers.
Adaptyourdrivingstyletotheprevailingroadandweatherconditions.
Obeyalltrafficlaws.
AdvantagesofPSM
–Superiortractionandlane-holdingabilityinalldrivingsituations-evenonroadsurfaceswithvaryingfriction.
–Thesystemcompensatesforundesiredvehi-clereactions(Ferrariaeffect)whenthedriverreleasestheacceleratorpedalorbrakeson
bends.Thiscompensationfunctionsuptothemaximumlateralacceleration.
–PSMactivelystabilizesthevehicleduringdynamicdrivingmaneuvers(e.g.rapidsteeringmovements,duringlanechangesoronalternatingcurves).
–Improvedbrakingstabilityincurvesandondifferentorvaryingroadsurfaces.
Readinessforoperation
PSMisswitchedonautomaticallyeverytimeyoustarttheengine.
Function
Sensorsatthewheels,brakes,steeringsystemandenginecontinuouslymeasure:
–Speed
–Directionoftravel(steeringangle)
–Lateralacceleration
–Rateofturnabouttheverticalaxis
PSMusesthesevaluestodeterminethedirectionoftraveldesiredbythedriver.PSMintervenesandcorrectsthecourseiftheactualdirectionofmotiondeviatesfromthedesiredcourse(steering-wheelposition):Itbrakesindividualwheelsasneeded.Inaddition,theenginepowermaybemanipulatedinordertostabilizethevehicle.
TheeventsbelowinformthedriverofPSMcontroloperationsandwarnhimtoadapther/hisdrivingstyletotheroadconditions:
–Themulti-functionalinformationlightontheinstrumentpanelflashes.
–Hydraulicnoisescanbeheard.
–Thevehicledeceleratesandsteering-wheelforcesarealteredasthePSMcontrolsthebrakes.
–Reducedenginepower.
–Thebrakepedalpulsatesanditspositionischangedduringbraking.Inordertoachievefullvehicledeceleration,footpressuremustbeincreasedafterbeginningofthebrakepedalpulsing.
ExamplesofPSMcontroloperations
–Ifthefrontwheelsofthevehicledriftonabend,therearwheelontheinsideofthebendisbrakedandtheenginepowerisreducedifnecessary.
–Iftherearofthevehicleswingsoutonabend,thefrontwheelontheoutsideofthebendisbraked.

Droppingbatteryvoltage
Ifthebatteryvoltagedropsabruptly,awarningmessagewillbedisplayedbytheon-boardcomputer.
Ifthewarningisdisplayedbytheon-boardcomputerwhiletheengineisrunningorwhiledriving:
Stopthecarinasafeplaceandstoptheengine.
Possiblecauses
–Defectinthebatterychargingsystem.
–Brokendrivebelt.
Warning!
Riskofenginedamagewithresultantlossofcontrolandaccident,leadingtoseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.Abrokendrivebeltmeansthereisnopowerassistancetothesteering(moreeffortisrequiredtosteer)andcoolantpumpfunctionwillstop.
Donotcontinuedriving.
HavethefaultremediedatthenearestauthorizedPorschedealer.

Conditions:Speedishigherthanapprox.33mph(54km/h).
Depressacceleratorquickly.TheTiptronicchangestemporarilytothesportiestgear-changingmap,i.e.tothehighestpossiblegear-changingpoints.Correspondingly,thetransmissionshiftsdownimmediatelybyoneortwogears.
Endingthefunction:
Releasetheacceleratormarkedly.
Kickdown
ThekickdownfunctionisactiveinselectorleverpositionD,evenifyoutemporarilychangetomanualmodeMusingthetoggleswitchesonthesteeringwheel.
Foroptimumacceleration,e.g.whenovertak-ing,depresstheacceleratorpedalbeyondthefull-throttlepoint(kickdown).
Thetransmissionshiftsdowndependingonthespeedoftravelandenginespeed.Upwardshiftsoccuratthehighestpossibleenginespeeds.Thesegear-changingspeedsremainactiveuntiltheacceleratorisreleasedtoapprox.80%ofthewideopenthrottleposition.
M-ManualSelectionMode
Modeofoperation
ThecurrentlyselectedgearisretainedifyouchangefromDtoM.
IfyoushiftfromMtoD,thegear-changingmapsuitableforyourcurrentdrivingstyleisselectedandtheappropriategearisselected.
Warning!
Thekickdownfunctionisnotactiveinmanualselectionmode“M”.
Thereforeshiftdownmanuallywhenaccelerat-ing(e.g.toovertake).
Twotoggleswitchesintheuppersteering-wheelspokesletyoucomfortablyandreliablyselectthefiveforwardgears.
Shiftingup
Pressupperpart(+)ofatoggleswitch.
Shiftingdown
Presslowerpart(-)ofatoggleswitch.
Dependingondrivingspeedandenginespeed,youcanshiftupordownatanytime.Gearchangeswhichwouldexceedtheupperorlowerengine-speedlimitarenotexecutedbythecontroller.
Youcanshiftdowntwogearsatoncebyquicklypressingthetoggleswitchestwice.
Iftheengine-speedlimitisreached,anautomaticupwardshiftisperformedor,justbeforeidlingspeedisreached,adownwardshiftisperformed.
Selectanappropriatelylowgearonupwardanddownwardslopes.Thiswillensureoptimumuseofenginepowerandenginebraking.

Winteroperation
Thecapacityandabilityofthebatterytostorepowerdecreasesatlowoutsidetemperatures.Additionally,morepowerisconsumedwhilestarting,andtheheadlights,heater,rearwindowdefogger,etc.,areusedmorefrequently.
LetyourPorschedealertestthebattery’scapacitybeforewintersetsin.
Thebatterywilldischargemorequicklyifyourvehicleisnotdrivenonadailybasisoveradistanceofseveralmiles.Themoreoftenyoudriveyourvehicle,andthelongerthedistancedriveneachtrip,themoreopportunitythevehicle’schargingsystemwillhavetorechargethebattery.
Replacingthebattery
Theservicelifeofthebatteryissubjecttonormalwear;itdependsgreatlyoncare,climaticcondi-tionsanddrivingconditions(distances,loads).
OnlyuseanoriginalPorschebatterywiththecorrectpartnumber,asareplacement.
Pleaseobservethedisposalinstructionsforbatteries.
Puttingvehicleintooperation
Afterthebatteryisconnectedorafteranexhaus-tivelydischargedbatteryischarged,themul-tifunctionalPSMlightlightsupontheinstrumentpanelandamessageappearsontheon-boardcomputertoindicateafault.
Thisfaultcanberemediedwithafewsimplesteps:
1.Starttheengine.
2.Withthevehiclestationary,performafewsteeringmovementstotheleftandrightandthendriveashortdistanceinastraightlineuntilthemultifunctinalPSMlightgoesoutandthemessageontheon-boardcomputerdisappears.
3.Ifthewarningsdonotdisappear,then:Drivecarefullytothenearestqualifiedspecialistworkshop.Havethefaultremedied.
4.Afterthewarningsdisappear,stopthevehicleinasuitableplace.
5.Performadaptationofthepowerwindows:

Ignitionkey/ignitionlock
