Generalinformation
Theairbagsincombinationwiththesafetybeltsmakeupasafetysystemwhichoffersthedriverandthepassengerthegreatestknownprotectionfrominjuriesincaseofaccident.Yourvehicleisequippedwithaweightsensingsystemforthepassenger’sseatinaccordancewithU.S.Federal/CanadianMotorVehicleSafetyStandard208.
Evenifyourvehicleisequippedwithairbags,thesafetybeltsmustbewornatalltimes,becausethefrontairbagsystemisonlydeployedbyfrontalcollisionswithanimpactofsufficientseverity.
Belowthedeploymentthresholdoftheairbagsystem,andduringtypesofcollisionswhichdonotcausetheactuationofthesystem,thesafetybeltsprovidetheprimaryprotectiontotheoccupantswhencorrectlyworn.Therefore,allpersonswithinthevehiclemustwearsafetybeltsatalltimes(inmanystates,statelawrequirestheuseofsafetybelts).

Thefrontairbagsarelocatedunderthepaddedsteeringwheelpanelonthedriver’ssideand,onthepassenger’sside,inthedashboard.Thesideairbagsforthefrontseatsareinstalledonthesideintheseatbackrests.Theheadairbagsareinstalledinthedoorlinings.

Toprovideoptimaloccupantprotection,air-bagsmustinateatveryhighspeed.Ifyouarenotwearingyoursafetybeltoraretooclosetotheairbagwhenitisdeployed,inat-ingairbagscanresultinseriouspersonalinju-ryordeath.Improperhandlingoftheweightsensingsystemcanunintentionallyimpairswitchingthepassenger’sairbagoffandon.
Makesuretherearenopeople,animalsorobjectsbetweenthedriverorpassengerandtheareaintowhichtheairbaginflates.
Sitbackasfarfromthedashboardorsteeringwheelasispractical,whilestillmaintainingfullvehiclecontrol.
Alwaysholdthesteeringwheelbytheouterrim.Neverrestyourhandsontheairbagpanel.
Alwaysfastenseatbeltsbecausetriggeringoftheairbagsystemdependsontheforceandangleofimpact.
Donottransportheavyobjectsonorinfrontofthepassenger’sseat.Thesecouldimpairthefunctionoftheairbag,theseatbelts,andweightsensing.
Donothangobjects(e.g.jackets,coats,coathangers)overthebackrest.
Alwayskeepthelidofthedoorstoragecom-partmentclosed.Objectsmustnotprotrudeoutofthedoorstoragecompartment.
Nochangesmaybemadetothewiringorcomponentsoftheairbagsystem.
Donotaddanyadditionalcoveringsorstickerstothesteeringwheelorintheareaofthepassengerairbag,sideairbagsandheadairbags.Doingsomayadverselyaffectthefunctioningoftheairbagsystemorcauseharmtotheoccupantsiftheairbagsystemshoulddeploy.
Donotmodifytheseatcoverings.Donotattachadditionalcushions,protectivecover-ings,orpillowstothepassenger’sseat.Donotaffixthingstothepassenger’sseatorcov-eritwithothermaterials.Donotcoverthebackofthebackrest.Donotmakechangestothepassenger’sseatandtotheseatbaseframe.
Donotundertakeanywiringforelectricalaccessoryequipmentinthevicinityoftheairbagwiringharnesses.Doingsomaydisabletheairbagsystemorcauseinadvertentinflation.
Ifthewarninglightcomeson,theairbagsystemshouldberepairedimmediatelybyyourauthorizedPorschedealer.

Functionoftheparkingassistant
Whenthedriverbacksup,theparkingassistantsystemindicatesthedistancebetweenthecarandalargeobstaclebehindit,bymeansofsignaltones.

Riskofseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.ParkAssistantcannotdetectsmallobjectssuchaschildrenandpets.Despiteuseoftheparkingassistantsystem,thedriverisstillresponsiblefortakingduecareandassessingobstacleswhenbackingup.
Makesurethatnopersons,especiallysmallchildren,animalsorobstaclesarewithinthemaneuveringarea.
Theparkingassistantsystemisactivatedautomati-callywhenreversegearisselectedandtheignitionison.

Beawarethattheparkingassistantsystemisnotswitchedonifthecarrollsbackwardwithoutreversegearbeingengaged.

Fourultrasoundsensorsintherearbumpermeasurethedistancetotheclosestobstacle.

Obstaclescannotbedetectedinthe“blind”sensorarea(e.g.neartheground).

Thesensorsmustalwaysbekeptfreeofdust,iceandsnowinordertoensurethattheyarefullyfunctional.

Toavoiddamagingthesensors:
Maintainsufficientdistancewhencleaningwithsteam-jetunits.
Signaltones/function
Whenreversegearisselected,theparkingassistantconfirmsthatitisswitchedonbyissuingashortsignaltone.Adetectedobstacleissignalledbyanintermittenttone.Theintervalsdecreaseastheobstacleisapproached.Acontinuoustonesoundswhenthedistancebecomeslessthanonefoot.Thiscontinuoustonecanstopiftheobstacleisapproachedcloserthanonefoot.Theradiovolumeshouldnotbesoloudastodrownoutthesignaltones.
Limitsofultrasonicmeasurement
Theparkingassistantsystemcannotdetect:
–sound-absorbingobstacles(e.g.winteroperation,powdersnow),
–sound-reflectingobstacles(e.g.glasssurfaces,flatpaintedsurfaces)
–andverythinobstacles.
Otherultrasoundsources(e.g.pneumaticbrakesofothervehicles,jackhammers)caninterferewithdetectionofobstacles.

YourPorscheisequippedwithanelectronicignitionsystem.Whentheignitionison,highvoltageispresentinallwiresconnectedwiththeignitionsystem;therefore,exerciseextremecautionwhenworkingonanypartoftheenginewhiletheignitionisonortheengineisrunning.
Alwaysplacethevehicleonstablesupportsifworkhastobecarriedoutunderthevehicle.Jacksarenotsuitableforthiskindofwork.

FuelEconomy
Fueleconomywillvarydependingonwhere,whenandhowyoudrive,optionalequipmentinstalled,andthegeneralconditionofyourcar.Acartunedtospecicationsandcorrect-lymaintained,willhelpyoutoachieveoptimalfueleconomy.
Haveyourvehicletunedtospecifications.Aircleanershouldbedirtfreetoallowproperengine“breathing”.Batteryshouldbefullycharged.Wheelsshouldbeproperlyaligned.Tiresshouldbeinflatedtothecorrectpres-sure.
Alwaysmonitoryourfuelconsumption.
Drivesmoothly,avoidabruptchangesinspeedasmuchaspossible.
Avoidjackrabbitstartsandsuddenstops.
Donotdrivelongerthannecessaryinthelowergears.Shiftingintoahighergearearlywithoutluggingtheenginewillhelpsavefuel.
Prolonged“warmup”idlingwastesgas.Startthevehiclejustbeforeyouarereadytodrive.Accelerateslowlyandsmoothly.
Switchofftheengineifstationaryforlongerperiods(trafficlights,jams,levelcrossings).
Anyadditionalweightcarriedinthevehiclereducesfueleconomy.Alwayskeepcargotoaminimumandremoveallunnecessaryitems.
Organizeyourtripstotakeinseveralerrandsinonetrip.
