EngineOil
Engineoilconsumption
Itisnormalforyourenginetoconsumeoil.Therateofoilconsumptiondependsonthequalityandviscosityofoil,thespeedatwhichtheengineisoperated,theclimate,roadconditionsaswellastheamountofdilutionandoxidationofthelubricant.
Ifthevehicleisusedforrepeatedshorttrips,andconsumesanormalamountofoil,theengineoilmeasurementmaynotshowanydropintheoillevelatall,evenafter600miles(1000km)ormore.Thisisbecausetheoilisgraduallybecomingdilutedwithfuelormoisture,makingitappearthattheoillevelhasnotchanged.Thedilutingingredientsevaporateoutwhenthevehicleisdrivenathighspeeds,asonanexpressway,makingitthenappearthatoilisexcessivelyconsumedafterdrivingathighspeeds.
Iftheconditionsyoudriveyourvehicleinaredusty,humid,orhot,thefrequencyoftheoilchangeintervalsshouldbegreater.
Ifthevehicleisdrivenatahighrateofspeed,climaticconditionsarewarm,andtheloadishigh,theoilshouldbecheckedmorefrequently,asdrivingconditionswilldeterminetherateofoilconsumption.
–Theengineinyourvehicledependsonoiltolubricateandcoolallofitsmovingparts.
Therefore,theengineoilshouldbecheckedregularlyandkeptattherequiredlevel.
–Makeitahabittohavetheengineoillevelcheckedwitheveryfuelfilling.
–Theoilpressurewarninglightisnotanoillevelindicator.Theoilpressurewarninglightindicatesseriousenginedamagemaybeoccuringwhenlit,ifenginerpmisaboveidlespeed.

Afterwashing,rinsethecarwithplentyofwaterandthendrywithachamoisleather.Donotusethesamechamoisleatherfordryingasyouuseforcleaningthewindshieldandwindows.
Warning!
Moisturewhichgetsontothebrakesduringacarwashcanreducebrakingefciencyormakethebrakespullunevenlywhichcouldincreasethedangerofanaccident,causingseriouspersonalinjuriesordeath.
Alwaysapplythebrakesafewtimesafterwashingthecartotestbrakingefficiencyanddrythebrakediscs.Whendoingthis,takecarenottohamperotherroadusersbehindyou(trafficconditionspermitting).
Automaticcarwashes
Optionaladd-onpartsorpartswhichprojectbeyondthecontoursofthevehiclemaybedamagedbydesignfeatures(e.g.brushes)ofautomaticcarwashes.
Washanddrybyhandallpointsnotreachedbyacarwash,suchasdoorandlidseamsordoorsills.

Note
Automaticcarwashesspraywateratoddanglesandhighpressures,whicharenotseeninnormaldriving.Therefore,watercansometimesfinditswayintothepassengerscompartmentduringorshortlyafterthecarwash.
Doorlocks
Topreventthedoorlocksfromfreezingduringthecoldseason,thelockcylindersshouldbecoveredduringawash.
Shouldthelocksfreeze,useanordinaryde-icer.Inmanycases,awellwarmedkeycanhelp.Neveruseexcessiveforce.

Door,lidandwindowseals
Washdirt(e.g.abrasion,dust,roadsalts)fromallsealsregularlyusingwarmsoapywater.Donotuseanychemicalcleaningagentsorsolvents.
Whenthereisafrosthazard,theouterdoorsealsandthefrontandrearlidsealscanbeprotectedagainstfreezingintoplacebyasuitablecareproduct.
Inordertopreventdamagetotheanti-frictioncoating,theinnerdoorsealsmustnotbetreatedwithcareproducts.
Stainlesssteelexhausttailpipes
Stainlesssteelexhausttailpipescandiscolorduetosoiling,strongheat,andcombustionresidues.
Theoriginalpolishcanbeachievedagainusingcommerciallyavailablemetalpolishingpasteormetalpolish.
Headlights,lights,interiorandexterior
plasticparts,adhesivelms
Useonlycleanwaterandalittledishwashingdetergenttocleanlightlenses,plasticheadlightlenses,plasticpartsandsurfaces.Donotcleanwhendry.Useasoftspongeorasoft,lint-freecloth.Gentlywipethesurfacewithoutapplyingtoomuchpressure.ThePorscheinsidewindowcleanerisalsosuitableforcleaningplasticsurfaces.Followthecleaninginstructionsonthecontainer.Neveruseotherchemicalcleanersorsolvents.
Rinsecleanedsurfaceswithclearwater.
Lightalloywheels
Pleaseobservethechapter”WASHING”onpage228.
Warning!
Dangerofaccidentresultinginseriouspersonalinjuryordeathifcleaningagents(e.g.wheelcleaningagents)comeintocontactwiththebrakediscs.Theresultinglmonthebrakediscscanimpairbrakingperformance.
Makesurethatnocleaningagentcomesintocontactwiththebrakediscs.
Ifcleaningagenthascomeintocontactwiththebrakediscs,thoroughlycleanthebrakediscswithastrongjetofwater.
Payingattentiontoanyroadusersbehindyou,drythebrakediscsbyapplyingthebrakesatshortintervals.
Pittingmayoccurifmetallicparticleswhichcausecontactcorrosion(e.g.brassorcopperinbrakedust)areallowedtoremainonthealuminumfortoolong.
Ifpossible,washthewheelswithaspongeorwashbrushabouteverytwoweeks.Inareaswheresaltisspreadonwinterroadsorthereisalotofairborneindustrialdust,itisbesttocleanthewheelsweekly.ThePorscheLightAlloyWheelCleaner(ph-value9.5)canbeusedforthispurpose.Iftheph-valueofthedetergentisincorrect,theprotectivecoatingonthewheelswillbedestroyed.
Polisheswhichdissolveoxides,suchasthosefrequentlyusedforothermetals,orabrasivetoolsoragentsareunsuitablebecausetheybreakdowntheoxidelmoftheprotectivecoatingandwillcausediscolorationofthewheel.
Everythreemonths,aftercleaning,coatthewheelswithacarwaxornon-corrosivegrease(vaseline).Usingacleancloththoroughlyrubthegreaseintothesurface.

StoringyourPorsche
IfyouintendtostoreyourPorscheforaprolongedperiod,pleaseconsultyourauthorizedPorschedealer.Thestaffwillbegladtoadviseyouonthemostsuitableandnecessarymethods.
Cleanyourvehiclethoroughlyinsideandoutside.Cleantheenginecompartment.Theundercarriageandchassiscomponentsshouldbefreeofdirtandsaltdeposits.
Fillupthefueltank.
Changetheoilandoilfilter,andruntheengineforseveralminutes.
Increasethetirepressureto58psi(4bar).Itisnotrecommendedtoliftthevehicle,duetothepossibilityofcorrosiononshockabsorberpistonshafts.Thevehicleshouldbemovedslightly,approximatelyeveryfourweeks,topreventflatspotonthetires.
Climatecontrol
Theairconditioningsystemshouldbeingoodworkingconditionandfullycharged.
Windshield/Headlightwasher
Checkandcorrectantifreeze/cleaningsolutionlevelasnecessary.
Electricalsystem
Removethebatteryfromthevehicleandstoreitinacooldryplace,notonacementfloor.Whenthebatteryisdisconnected,thealarmsystemisdeactivated.
Rechargethebatteryevery3months.Ifthebatteryremainsinthevehiclewiththecablesconnected,itisnecessarytocheck,removeandrechargethebatteryevery2-3weeks.Donotfastchargethebattery.

Vehicleinterior
Theinteriormustbedry,especiallyintheareaofthefloorcarpets.Theuseofdryingagents(Silica-Gel)isrecommendedinvehicleswithleatherinteriorandinareaswithhighhumidity.Therecommendedamountis3fabricbagsof1.1lbs.(500grams)eachplacedonthefloorcarpets.
Windows,doors,lidsandtopmustbeclosed.Theairventsshouldbeopened.

Tirewear
TheoriginalequipmenttiresonyourPorschehavebuilt-intirewearindicators.Theyaremoldedintothebottomofthetreadgroovesandwillappearasapproximately1/2in.(12mm)bandswhenthetiretreaddepthisdownto1/16ofanin.(1.6mm).
Whentheindicatorsappearintwoormoreadjacentgrooves,itistimetoreplacethetires.Werecommend,however,thatyoudonotletthetiresweardowntothisextent.Worntirescannotgriptheroadsurfaceproperlyandareevenlesseffectiveonwetroads.
IntheUnitedStates,statelawsmaygoverntheminimumtreaddepthpermissible.Followallsuchlaws.

Drivingonworntirescanresultinlossofcontrolofthevehicleandcouldcauseseriouspersonalinjuriesordeath.
Donotdrivewithworntiresortiresshowingcutsorbruisesastheymayleadtosuddendeflationandlossofcontrolwhichcouldcauseseverepersonalinjury.

Checktiresforimbeddedmaterial,cuts,punctures,cracksandbulges(sidewall)beforedrivingoff.
Incaseoftiredamage,whereitisuncertainwhetherthereisabreakintheplywithallitsconsequencesortiredamagecausedbythermalormechanicaloverloadingduetolossofpressureoranyotherpriordamage,werecommendthatthetirebereplacedforsafetyreasons.
Ifonefaultytireisreplaceditshouldbenotedthatthedifferenceintreaddepthononeaxlemustnotexceed30%.Handlinginconsistenciesmayresult.
