For topping up or filling, only use
products approved by the Renault
Technical Department.
Battery
The battery does not require any
maintenance.
Take care when working
in the engine
compartment as the
engine cooling fan may
cut in at any moment without
warning.Handle the battery with
care as it contains
sulphuric acid which must
not come into contact with
the eyes or skin.
If it does, rinse with plenty of
water.
Keep all sources of flame, heat and
sparks away from the battery as
there is a risk of explosion.

• The engine fires once or twice then

Poor fuel supply or ignition fault. If the vehicle will not start, do not
keeptryingtostartit.
Consult a Renault Dealer.
System for cutting off fuel supply
activated if vehicle has been subject to
severe impact.See a Renault Dealer. (Refer to
information on fuel cut-off system in
section 5.)
• Vibrations. Tyres incorrectly inflated, incorrectly
balanced or damaged.Check the tyre pressures and, if they
are correct, have a Renault Dealer check
the condition of the tyres.
• Coolant boiling in expansion bottle. Mechanical fault: cylinder head gasket
blown, water pump faulty.Stop the engine.
Consult a Renault Dealer.
Engine cooling fan not working. Check the appropriate fuse, otherwise
consult a Renault Dealer.

OPERATING INCIDENTS(continued)
On the open road CAUSES REMEDIAL ACTION
• Steering becomes hard to turn. Belt broken. Have the belt replaced.
Lack of oil in pump. Top up oil (see maintenance section).
If the fault persists, consult your
Renault Dealer.
• The engine overheats. The coolant
temperature warning light illuminates
(or the needle on the gauge is in the
red zone).Water pump: belt slack or broken.
Faulty engine cooling fan.Stop the vehicle, switch off the engine
and call for the assistance of a Renault
Dealer.
Coolant leaks. Check the condition of the hoses and
clips.
Check the expansion bottle: it should
contain coolant. If it does not, top up
the level (after letting the engine cool
down). Take care not to burn yourself.
This action is only temporary: consult
your Renault Dealer as soon as
possible.
Radiator
Never fill a hot radiator with cold coolant if a considerable quantity has been lost. After any operation
on the vehicle which has involved even partial draining of the cooling system, it must be refilled with a
new mixture prepared in the correct proportions. Reminder: only products approved by our Technical
Department may be used for this purpose.
