When your radio navigation system
receives a catastrophe signal and if the
destination guide is activated, ALARM is
displayed on screen either in close-up as
shown in the picture or in the back-
ground.
Whatever audio source is on will be inter-
rupted and the radio tunes into the source
broadcasting the catastrophe announce-
ment. The announcement is broadcast at
the volume set for traffic announcements,
see page 20.
At the end of the announcement the sys-
tem automatically returns to the previous
audio source.
You can end the announcement whenever
you wish by switching to a different audio

The RDS function (Radio Data System) is
always activated in the radio navigation
system.
There is an increasing number of radio
stations which broadcast RDS information
together with their programs; this infor-
mation is received and evaluated by the
RDS receiver. Among others, this includes
the station name and radio traffic infor-
mation of the selected station.

Through the alternative frequency func-
tion, the set automatically selects the fre-
quency of best reception for the selected
station.
The radio may be briefly mute during the
frequency search.
If the set is not able to find an alternative
frequency for the selected station and the
reception is not of sufficient quality, tune
into another station.

Apart from their program, some radio sta-
tions regularly broadcast codified traffic
announcements through their traffic news
channel. Your navigation receives the

At certain times, some stations broadcast
regional programs.
The set will first try to only select alterna-
tive frequencies of the selected station.
The set will, however, accept frequencies
from a sister channel when the quality is
so poor that the program could be "lost".
As these channels broadcast different
programs at certain hours, by changing
frequency you may be listening to a differ-
ent program.

Theoretically, station switching is only
provided for the same programs. When
the reception is very poor, it may auto-
matically switch to another station of the
same regional programs channel.
