Climate control system Control panel
1) Air inlet selection lever
2) Air conditioner button (if equipped)

window defogger ” in chapter 3.)

Temperature control dial
This dial regulates the temperature of air flow from
the air outlets over a range from the blue side (cool) to red side (warm).
Fan speed control dial
The fan operates only when the ignition switch is
turned to the “ON” position. The fan speed control
dial is used to select four fan speeds.
Air flow control dial
This dial has the following five positions:
: Air flows through the instrument panel out-lets.
: Air flows through the instrument panel outlets and the foot outlets.
: Air flows through the foot outlets and some through the windshield defroster outlets.
: Air flows through the windshield defroster outlets and foot outlets.
: Air flows through the windshield defroster outlets.
NOTE You will find the notation “USE WITH
” on
the air flow control dial plate. This is intended to remind you to set the air inlet
selection lever in the “
” position when
defogging the windshield.

3. Set the temperature control dial to the most com-
fortable level.
4. Set the fan speed control dial to the desiredspeed. NOTE
Warm air also comes out from the right and left
air outlets. To stop warm air flow from these out- lets, turn the corresponding knob clockwise. Bi-level heating
This setting allows you to direct air of different tem-
peratures from the instrument panel and foot outlets.
The air from the foot outlets is slightly warmer than from the instrument panel outlets.
1. Set the air inlet selection lever to the

3. Set the temperature control dial to the desired
temperature level.
4. Set the fan speed control dial to the desired speed.
Setting the temperature control dial fully turned to
the red area or blue area decreases the temperature
difference between the air from the instrument panel
outlets and the air from the foot outlets.

To force outside air through the instrument panel outlets:
1. Set the air inlet selection lever to the “
”
position.
2. Set the air flow control dial to the “
” position.
3. Set the temperature control dial all the way left.
4. Set the fan speed control dial to the desired speed.
When driving on a dusty road, set the air inlet con-
trol lever to the “ON” position.
WARNING
Continued operation in the “” position
may fog up the windows. Switch to the “
” position as soon as the outside dusty
condition clears.
Air conditioner operation (if equipped)
Cooling or dehumidifying
1) ON position
For cooling and dehumidification of the passenger
compartment, air flows through the instrument paneloutlets:
1. Set the air inlet selection lever to the “
” posi-
tion.
2. Set the air flow control dial to the “

3. Set the air conditioner button to the “ON” posi-
tion.

Cup holder In instrument panel
To use the cup holder, push its front surface and pull
it out completely.
In center console
The front passenger ’s cup holder is built in the cen-
ter console, beside the parking brake lever.
CAUTION
When not in use, always keep the holder
stored while driving to reduce the risk of inju- ry in the event of a sudden stop or an acci- dent. Do not pick up a cup from the cup holder or
put a cup in the holder while you are driving,as this may distract you and lead to an acci-dent.

CAUTION
Do not attempt to use a cigarette lighter in
the accessory power outlet. Do not place any foreign objects, especially
metal ones such as coins or aluminum foil, into the accessory power outlet. That could
cause a short circuit. Always put the cap onthe accessory power outlet when it is not inuse. Use only electrical appliances which are
designed for 12V DC and which consume less
than 120W. Overloading the accessory poweroutlet can cause a short circuit. Do not use
double adapters or more than one electricalappliance. If the plug on your electric appliance is
either too loose or too tight for the accessory power outlet, this can result in a poor contactor cause the plug to get stuck. Only use plugs
that fit properly. Use of an electric appliance in the acces-
sory power outlet for a long period of timewhile the engine is not running can cause bat-tery discharge. Cigarette lighter socket
The electrical power outlet located on the lower part
of the instrument panel can be used as cigarette
lighter socket. A cigarette lighter plug is an optional
accessory. It is available from your SUBARU dealer.
The cigarette lighter socket may also be used as a
power source for an in-car use electrical appliance.
CAUTION

The electrical power outlet located on the
lower part of the instrument panel is originally
designed to use a SUBARU genuine cigarette

suddenly even when the engine is stopped. When you do checking or servicing in the engine compartment whilethe engine is running
A running engine can be dangerous. Keep your fingers, hands, clothing, hair and toolsaway from the cooling fan, belts and any other
moving engine parts. Removing rings,watches and ties is advisable. Engine hood
To open the hood:
1. Pull the hood release knob under the instrument panel.

Fuses
CAUTION
Never replace a fuse with one having a higher
rating or with material other than a fuse be-
cause serious damage or a fire could result.
The fuses are designed to melt during an overload
to prevent damage to the wiring harness and electri-
cal equipment. The fuses are located in two fuseboxes.
One is located under the instrument panel behind the coin tray on the driver ’s seat side.
