801-6. Theft det errent system
■ When the vehicle cannot be star ted with the registered key (veh icles
without a smart key system)
Remove the key and try again.
■ System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type engine immobilizer syst em.
■ Conditions that may cause the system to malfunction
● If the key is in contact with a metallic object
● If the key is in close proximity to or touching a key to the security system
(key with a built-in transponder chip) of another vehicle
■ Certification for engine immob ilizer system (vehicles without a smart
key system)

■ System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.
■ Items to check before locking the vehicle
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft , make sure
of the following.
● Nobody is in the vehicle.
● The windows are closed before the alarm is set.
● No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle.
■ Opening and closing the trunk
● If the alarm setting operations are performed with the trunk left open, the
alarm will not be set. After closing the trunk, the alarm is se t after 30 sec-
onds or more elapse.
● When the trunk is unlocked using the entry function or wireless remote
control while the alarm is set, the alarm goes into standby mod e. After
closing the trunk, the alarm is set again after 30 seconds or m ore elapse.
■ Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the following situations.
Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.
● A person inside the vehicle opens a
door or the trunk.

Before driving Also, if luggage or electronic devices are placed on the front passenger’s
seat, this may adversely affect the ability of the system to de termine deploy-
ment. This may prevent the front passenger’s frontal airbag ON and OFF
indicators from working properly. Check that the indicators wor k properly.
When the OFF indicator turns off and the ON indicator illuminat es, the front
passenger’s frontal airbag may deploy during a collision. Remov e luggage
and electronic devices from the front passenger’s seat.
NOTE
This device complies with Part 18 of the FCC Rules. This device may cause
interference. If this device causes interference, consult the n earest Toyota
dealer. Also, for maintenance of the system, consult the neares t Toyota
dealer.
■ Conditions in which front passen ger’s SRS frontal airbag is not acti-
vated
The front passenger’s SRS frontal airbag will not be activated when any of
the following conditions are met regarding the front passenger’s seat:
● The seat is empty.
● The seat is equipped with an appropriate child restraint system and an
infant is restrained in it.
● The occupant changed their posture after the occupant load is j udged.
● The front passenger’s occupant classification system is malfunctioning.
WARNING
When the front passenger’s seat is occupied by an infant in an appropriate
child restraint system, observe the following precautions. Fail ure to do so may
interfere with the proper operation of the occupant classification system, acti-
vating the front passenger’s SRS frontal airbag even though tha t seat is occu-
pied by the infant in the child restraint system.
● Do not place any article (including electronic devices) on the seat other than
the infant in the child restraint system.
● Do not place more than one infant in the child restraint system .

Cleaning and protecting the vehicle exterior Perform the following to protect the vehicle and maintain it in prime
condition.
● Working from top to bottom, liber ally apply water to the vehicl e
body, wheel wells and underside of the vehicle to remove any
dirt and dust.
● Wash the vehicle body using a s ponge or soft cloth, such as a
chamois.
● For hard-to-remove marks, use car wash soap and rinse thor-
oughly with water.
● Wipe away any water.
● Wax the vehicle when the wat erproof coating deteriorates.If water does not bead on a clean surface, apply wax when the v ehicle
body is cool.

Maintenance and care ■ Automatic car washes
● Fold the mirrors before washing the vehicle. Start washing from the front
of the vehicle. Make sure to extend the mirrors before driving.
● Brushes used in automatic car washes may scratch the vehicle su rface
and harm your vehicle’s paint.
■ High pressure car washes
● Do not allow the nozzles of the car wash to come within close proximity
of the windows.
● Before using the car wash, check that the fuel filler door on y our vehicle
is closed properly.
■ Aluminum wheels
● Remove any dirt immediately by using a neutral detergent.
● Wash detergent off with water immediately after use.
● To protect the paint from damage, make sure to observe the foll owing
precautions.
• Do not use acidic, alkaline or abrasive detergent
• Do not use hard brushes
• Do not use detergent on the wheels when they are hot, such as after
driving or parking in hot weather
■ Brake (vehicles with brembo brake)
● Painted brake calipers
• When using detergent, use neutral detergent. Do not use hard b rushes
or abrasive cleaners, as they will damage the paint.
• Do not use detergent on the brake calipers when they are hot.
• Wash detergent off immediately after use.
● Rust may form if the vehicle is parked with wet brake pads or disc rotors,
causing them to stick. Before parking the vehicle after it is w ashed, drive
slowly and apply the brakes several times to dry the parts.
■ Parts containing resin such as the bumper
Do not scrub with abrasive cleaners.

WARNING■ When washing the vehicle
Do not apply water to the inside of the engine compartment. Doi ng so may
cause the electrical components etc. to catch fire.
■ Precautions regardin g the exhaust pipes
Exhaust gasses cause the exhaust pipes and rear bumper diffuser s to
become quite hot.
When washing the vehicle, be careful not to touch the pipes and diffusers
until they have cooled sufficiently, as touching hot exhaust pi pes and rear
bumper diffusers can cause burns.
NOTICE■ To prevent paint deterioration an d corrosion on the body and co mpo-
nents (aluminum wheels etc.)
● Wash the vehicle immediately in the following cases:
• After driving near the sea coast
• After driving on salted roads
• If you see coal tar or tree sap on the paint surface
• If you see dead insects, insect droppings or bird droppings on the paint
• After driving in an area contaminated with soot, oily smoke, m ine dust,
iron powder or chemical substances
• If the vehicle becomes heavily soiled in dust or mud
• If liquids such as benzene and gasoline are spilled on the paint surface
● If the paint is chipped or scratched, have it repaired immediat ely.
● To prevent the wheels from corroding, remove any dirt and store in a place
with low humidity when storing the wheels.
■ Protective film for side sill plates
Make sure to remove the protective film. Failure to do so may c ause rust,
depending on conditions.
