You may drain the fuel filter yourself. However, as the operation is dif-
ficult, we recommend having it drained by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional. Even if you decide to drain it yourself, contact any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional.
Vehicles without a multi-information display
The water in the fuel filter needs to be drained if the fuel filter warn-
ing light comes on and a buzzer sounds. (P. 598)
Vehicles with a multi-information display
When the “DRAIN WATER FROM FUEL FILTER” warning mes-
sage is shown on the multi-information display and a buzzer
sounds. (P. 620)
Vehicles without a smart entry & start system: Turn the engine
switch to the “LOCK” position.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system: Turn the engine
switch off.
Place a small tray under the drain plug to catch the water and
any fuel that comes out.
NOTICE
Do not use any fluid other than washer fluid
Do not use soapy water or engine antifreeze instead of washer fluid.
Doing so may cause streaking on the vehicle’s painted surfaces.
Diluting washer fluid
Dilute washer fluid with water as necessary.
Refer to the freezing temperatures listed on the label of the washer fluid bot-
tle.

When trouble arises

Indicates a malfunction in the Automatic High Beam sys-
tem.

“AFS OFF” indicator (if equipped)
Indicates a malfunction in the adaptive front-lighting sys-
tem
Fuel filter warning light (if equipped)
Indicate that the amount of accumulated water in the fuel
filter has reached the specified level.
Brake system warning light in yellow (hybrid model)
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The regenerative braking system; or
• The electronically controlled brake system

Cruise control indicator light (if equipped)
Indicates a malfunction in the cruise control system.

Indicates a malfunction in the speed limiter system.

When trouble arises
NOTICE
When the DPF system warning light comes on (diesel engine)
If the DPF system warning light is left on without performing cleaning, after
an additional 100 to 300 km (62 to 187 miles), the malfunction indicator
lamp may come on. If this happens, have the vehicle inspected by any
authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped
professional immediately.
If the fuel filter warning light comes on (diesel engine)
Never drive the vehicle with the warning light on. Continued driving with
water accumulated in the fuel filter will damage the fuel injection pump.
