PCS warning light (if equipped)
When the warning light flashes (and a buzzer sounds):
Indicates a malfunction in the PCS (Pre-Crash Safety sys-
tem)
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional immediately.
When the warning light illuminates:
Indicates that the PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system) is tem-
porarily unavailable, possibly due to either of the following:
• The part of the windshield around the front sensor being
dirty, fogged up or covered with condensation, ice, stick-
ers, etc.
 Clear the dirt, fog, condensation, ice, stickers, etc.

• Front sensor temperature being outside of its opera-
tional range
 Wait for a while until the area around the front sensor
has cooled down sufficiently.
When the warning light is illuminated:
Either the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) system or PCS
(Pre-Crash Safety system) is disabled or both are dis-
abled.
 To enable the PCS, enable both the VSC system and
PCS. ( P. 195, 225)
(Yellow) (For 1KR engine)
(For HM01 engine)
Speed limiter indicator (if equipped)
Indicates a malfunction in the speed limiter system.
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional immediately.
(Flashes)
Stop & Start cancel indicator (if equipped)
Indicates a malfunction in the Stop & Start system
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional immediately.

*1: Parking brake engaged warning buzzer:
A buzzer will sound if the vehicle is driven at a speed of approximately
5 km/h (3 mph) or more.
*2: Open door warning buzzer:
A buzzer will sound if the vehicle reaches a speed of 5 km/h (3 mph) or
more with any door open.
*3: Driver’s and passenger’s seat belt buzzer:
The driver’s and passenger’s seat belt buzzer sounds to alert the driver
and passenger that his or her seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds
for 30 seconds after the vehicle reaches a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph).
Then, if the seat belt is still unfastened, the buzzer will sound in a different
tone for 90 more seconds.
■ To prevent the clutch from overheating (vehicles with a multi-mode man-
ual transmission)
● Do not use the accelerator pedal or starting assist system to hold the vehicle
on a hill.
● On an uphill incline, observe the following whenever possible:
• Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and avoid unnecessary
starting off and stopping.
• Avoid using E mode on an uphill slope. This will help to avoid unneces-
sary gear changes.
Tire pressure warning light (if equipped)
When the light comes on:
Low tire inflation pressure such as
• Natural causes ( P. 395)
• Flat tire ( P. 399, 412)
 Adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified level
and carry out initialization.
When the light comes on after blinking for 1 minute:
Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system
 Have the system checked by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.

■Using the tire jack
Observe the following precautions.
Improper use of the tire jack may cause the vehicle to suddenly fall off the
jack, leading to death or serious injury.
● Do not use the tire jack for any purpose other than replacing tires or install-
ing and removing tire chains.
● Only use the tire jack that comes with this vehicle for replacing a flat tire.
Do not use it on other vehicles, and do not use other tire jacks for replac-
ing tires on this vehicle.
● Put the jack properly in its jack point.
● Do not put any part of your body under the vehicle while it is supported by
the jack.
● Do not start the engine or drive the vehicle while the vehicle is supported
by the jack.
● Do not raise the vehicle while someone is inside.
● When raising the vehicle, do not put an object on or under the jack.
● Do not raise the vehicle to a height greater than that required to replace
the tire.
● Use a jack stand if it is necessary to get under the vehicle.
● Stop the vehicle on firm, flat and level ground, firmly set the parking brake
and shift the shift lever to E, M or R (multi-mode manual transmission) or R
(manual transmission). Block the wheel diagonally opposite to the one
being changed if necessary.
● When lowering the vehicle, make sure that there is no-one near the vehi-
cle. If there are people nearby, warn them vocally before lowering.

■Stopping the engine
Shift the shift lever to N and press the engine switch as you normally do when
stopping the engine.
■ Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommended that the
electronic key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted.
( P. 354)
■ Changing engine switch modes
Release the brake pedal (multi-mode m anual transmission) or clutch pedal
(manual transmission) and press t he engine switch in step above.
The engine does not start and modes will be changed each time the switch is
pressed. ( P. 160)
■ When the electronic key does not work properly
● Make sure that the smart entry & start system has not been deactivated in
the customization setting. If it is off, turn the function on.
(Customizable features: P. 459)
● Check if battery-saving mode is set. If it is set, cancel the function.
( P. 121)

Add coolant if necessary.
Water can be used in an emergency if coolant is unavailable.
Start the engine and turn the air conditioning system on to check
that the radiator cooling fan operate and to check for coolant leaks
from the radiator or hoses.
The fan operate when the air conditioning system is turned on immediately
after a cold start. Confirm that the fan is operating by checking the fan
sound and air flow. If it is difficult to check these, turn the air conditioning
system on and off repeatedly. (The fan may not operate in freezing tem-
peratures.)
If the fan is not operating:
Stop the engine immediately and contact any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.
If the fan is operating:
Have the vehicle inspected at the nearest any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.

If the vehicle becomes stuck
Stop the engine. Set the parking brake and shift the shift lever to N.
Remove the mud, snow or sand from around the stuck tire.
Place wood, stones or some other material to help provide traction
under the tires.
Restart the engine.
Shift the shift lever to E, M or R (multi-mode manual transmission)
or 1 or R (manual transmission) and release the parking brake.
Then, while exercising caution, depress the accelerator pedal.
■ When it is difficult to free the vehicle (vehicles with a VSC system)
Press to turn off TRC.
Turn off TRC and/or VSC if these functions are hampering your attempts to
free the vehicle. ( P. 224)
■ Emergency hooks
Carry out the following procedures if the tires spin or the vehicle
becomes stuck in mud, dirt or snow:
When your vehicle becomes stuck and
cannot move, the emergency hooks are
used for another vehicle to pull your

Your vehicle is not designed to tow
another vehicle.

It is locked to prevent theft of the vehicle if the key is removed from the

●Vehicles with a smart entry & start system
It is locked automatically to prevent theft of the vehicle. ( P. 161)
●The auto power off function will be operated if the vehicle is left in ACCES-
SORY or IGNITION ON mode (the engine is not operating) for a period of
time. ( P. 160)
●The seat belt reminder light is flashing
Are the driver and the passengers wearing the seat belts? ( P. 393)
●The brake system warning light is on
Is the parking brake released? ( P. 171)
