THE NEW WORLD OF
ANTI-THEFT TECHNOLOGY
ThisToyota vehicle maybeequipped with
an electronic “immobilizer” anti-theft
system. Whenthekey isinserted intothe
ignition switchittransmits anelectronic
code toan immobilizer computer.The
engine willonly start ifthe code inthe key
matches thecode inthe immobilizer. Ifthe
code doesnotmatch, theimmobilizer
disables theignition andfuelsystems.
While anexact physical copyofthe key
will open thedoor andallow retrieval of
items locked inthe vehicle, itwon’t start
the vehicle unlessthekey has thesame
code asthe immobilizer.
SECURITY
For security purposes, accesstokey
codes andservice procedures for
electronically registeringreplacement keys
is restricted. OnlyaToyota dealeror
certain bonded/registered independent
locksmiths cangenerate replacement keys.

anti-smog standards. CARBregulations
require thatToyota mustwarrant the
emission controlsystem onyour vehicle
for the time periods indicated onthe next
page, provided therehasbeen noabuse,
neglect orimproper maintenance ofyour
vehicle.
Your emission controlsystem mayinclude
parts suchasthe fuel injection system,
ignition system, catalytic converter and
engine computer. Alsoincluded maybe
