◆“Fuel Consumption Record”
When the unit is set to “km/h”
The transitions of the average fuel consumption after the hybrid
system starts can be checked in units of 1 km (0.6 mile) or 5 km
(3.1 miles) of driving.
When the unit is set to “MPH” (if equipped)
The transitions of the average fuel consumption after the hybrid
system starts can be checked in units of 1 mile (1.6 km) or 5 miles
(8 km) of driving.
■How to read the screen
The “ 1 km” display is shown as an example. However, the
basic method for how to read the screen is the same for each fuel
consumption history screen.
Current average electricity
and fuel consumption record
(yellow display)
When the unit is set to “km/h”:
When the recorded unit is
exceeded (every 1 km [0.6 mile]
or 5 km [3.1 miles]) the currently
displayed history moves
towards the left side and the old-
est record is deleted.
When the unit is set to “MPH” (if equipped):
When the recorded unit is exceeded (every 1 mile [1.6 km] or 5 miles
[8 km] the currently displayed history moves towards the left side and
the oldest record is deleted.

Driving
Opening the fuel tank cap
●Turn the power switch off and ensure that all the doors and win-
dows are closed.
●Confirm the type of fuel.
■Fuel types
P. 736
■Fuel tank opening for unleaded gasoline
To help prevent incorrect fueling, your vehicle has a fuel tank opening that
only accommodates the special nozzle on unleaded fuel pumps.
Perform the following steps to open the fuel tank cap:
Before refueling the vehicle

5807-1. Maintenance and care
PRIUS PHV_OM_OM47C99E_(EE)
■Caring for leather areas
Toyota recommends cleaning the interior of the vehicle at least twice a year to
maintain the quality of the vehicle’s interior.
■Shampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foaming-type cleaners available. Use a sponge
or brush to apply the foam. Rub in overlapping circles. Do not use water.
Wipe dirty surfaces and let them dry. Excellent results are obtained by keep-
ing the carpet as dry as possible.
■Seat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also
check the belts periodically for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
■Cleaning the air intake vents and filters
●Dust on the air intake vents or filters may interferes cooling of the hybrid bat-
tery (traction battery) and results in poor electricity and fuel consumption.
Clean the air intake vents and filters periodically.
●If continuing to drive the vehicle with “Maintenance required for Traction bat-
tery cooling parts See owner’s manual” shown on the multi-information dis-
play, the hybrid battery (traction battery) may overheat, leading to
decreasing in distance that can be driven using the electric motor. It may
cause poor electricity and fuel consumption or a malfunction. If the warning
message is shown, clean the air intake vents and filters immediately.
●Improper handling may result in damage to the grille or filters. If you have
any concerns about cleaning the filters, contact any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
●If the warning message on the multi-information display does not disappear
after cleaning the filters, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
●Timing of cleaning filters differs depending on the use environment of the
vehicle.

7068-2. Steps to take in an emergency
PRIUS PHV_OM_OM47C99E_(EE)
If the hybrid system will not start
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
● The charging cable may be attached to the vehicle. (P. 160)
● The electronic key may not be functioning properly.* (P. 708)
● There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle. ( P. 111 )
● There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system.* (P. 7 5 )
● There may be a malfunction in the shift control system.*
( P. 354, 686)
● The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical prob-
lem such as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. How-
ever, depending on the type of malfunction, an interim measure is
available to start the hybrid system. ( P. 707)
● There is a possibility that the temperature of the hybrid battery
(traction battery) is extremely low (approximately below -30 C
[-22 F]). (P. 111 , 3 5 3 )
*: It may not be possible to shift the shift position other than P.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
● The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (P. 712)
● The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
( P. 599)
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on
the situation. Check the following and perform the appropriate
procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting
procedure is being followed. ( P. 351)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not
sound or sounds at a low volume.

Fuel information
■Use of ethanol blended gasoline in a gasoline engine
Toyota allows the use of ethanol blended gasoline where the ethanol content
is up to 10%. Make sure that the ethanol blended gasoline to be used has a
Research Octane Number that follows the above.
■If your engine knocks
●Consult any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer.
●You may occasionally notice light knocking for a short time while accelerat-
ing or driving uphill. This is normal and there is no need for concern.
When you find these types of fuel label at the gas station, use
only the fuel with one of the following labels.
EU area:
You must only use unleaded gasoline conforming to European
standard EN228.
Select unleaded gasoline with a Research Octane Number of 95
or higher for optimum engine performance.
Except EU area:
You must only use unleaded gasoline.
Select unleaded gasoline with a Research Octane Number of 95
or higher for optimum engine performance.
