Operation of each component
To take out the mechanical key,
slide the release lever and take
the key out.
The mechanical key can only be
inserted in one direction, as the
key only has grooves on one side.
If the key cannot be inserted in a
lock cylinder, turn it over and re-
attempt to insert it.
After using the mechanical key, store it in the electronic key. Carry the
mechanical key together with the electronic key. If the electro nic key bat-
tery is depleted or the entry function does not operate properl y, you will
need the mechanical key. ( P. 693)
QIf you lose your mechanical keys
New genuine mechanical keys can be made by any authorized Toyot a retailer
or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer using a nother mechani-
cal key and the key number stamped on your key number plate. Ke ep the
plate in a safe place such as your wallet, not in the vehicle.
Q When riding in an aircraft
When bringing an electronic key onto an aircraft, make sure you do not press
any buttons on the electronic key while inside the aircraft cab in. If you are
carrying an electronic key in your bag etc., ensure that the bu ttons are not
likely to be pressed accidentally. Pressing a button may cause the electronic
key to emit radio waves that could interfere with the operation of the aircraft.

OThe standard battery life is 1 to 2 years.
OIf the battery becomes low, an alarm will sound in the cabin and a message
will be displayed on the multi-information display when the hybrid system
stops.
OAs the electronic key always receives radio waves, the battery will become
depleted even if the electronic key is not used. The following symptoms indi-
cate that the electronic key battery may be depleted. Replace the battery
when necessary. (P. 631)
• The smart entry & start system or the wireless remote control does not
operate.
• The detection area becomes smaller.
• The LED indicator on the key surface does not turn on.
You can replace the battery by yourself (P. 631). However, as there is a
danger that the electronic key may be damaged, it is recommended that
replacement is carried out by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
OTo avoid serious deterioration, do not leave the electronic key within 1 m
(3 ft.) of the following electrical appliances that produce a magnetic field:
•TVs
• Personal computers
• Cellular phones, cordless phones and battery chargers
• Table lamps
• Induction cookers

QIf a message regarding the state of the electronic key or power switch
mode, etc. is shown
To prevent trapping the electronic key inside the vehicle, leaving the vehicle
without turning off the power switch or other passengers from unintentionally
taking the key out of the vehicle, etc., a message that prompts the user to
confirm the state of the electronic key or power switch mode may be shown
on the multi-information display. In those cases, follow the instructions on the
display immediately.
QIf “Key Battery Low Replace Key Battery” is displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display
The electronic key has a low battery. Replace the electronic key battery.

QConfirmation of the registered key number
The number of keys already registered to the vehicle can be confirmed. Ask
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer.
QIf “A New Key has been Registered Contact Your Dealer for Details” is
displayed on the multi-information display
This message will be displayed each time the driver’s door is opened when
the doors are unlocked from the outside for approximately 10 days after a
new electronic key has been registered.
If this message is displayed but you have not had a new electronic key regis-
tered, ask any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer to check if an unknown electronic key (other than those in
your possession) has been registered.
QIf a wrong key is used
The key cylinder rotates freely to isolate inside mechanism.

NOTICE
QTo prevent key damage
O Do not drop the keys, subject them to strong shocks or bend them.
O Do not expose the keys to high temperatures for long periods of time.
O Do not get the keys wet or wash them in an ultrasonic washer etc.
O Do not attach metallic or magnetic materials to the keys or place the keys
close to such materials.
O Do not disassemble the keys.
O Do not attach a sticker or anything else to the surface of the electronic key.
O Do not place the keys near objects that produce magnetic fields, such as
TVs, audio systems and induction cookers.
O Do not place the keys near medical electrical equipment such as low-fre-
quency therapy equipment or microwave therapy equipment, and do not
receive medical attention with the keys on your person.
Q Carrying the electronic key on your person
Carry the electronic key 10 cm (3.9 in.) or more away from elec tric appli-
ances that are turned on. Radio waves emitted from electric app liances
within 10 cm (3.9 in.) of the electronic key may interfere with the key, caus-
ing the key to not function properly.
Q In case of a smart entry & start system malfunction or other key-related
problems
Take your vehicle with all the electronic keys provided with yo ur vehicle to
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, o r any reliable
repairer.
Q When an electronic key is lost
If the electronic key remains lost, the risk of vehicle theft i ncreases signifi-
cantly. Visit any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authoriz ed repairer, or
any reliable repairer immediately with all remaining electronic keys that
were provided with your vehicle.

XSmart entry & start system
Carry the electronic key to enable this function.
Grip the front door handle to
unlock all the doors.
Make sure to touch the sensor
on the back of the handle.

QOperation signals
The emergency flashers flash to indicate that the doors have been locked/
unlocked. (Locked: Once; Unlocked: Twice)
QSecurity feature
If a door is not opened within approximately 30 seconds after the vehicle is
unlocked, the security feature automatically locks the vehicle again.
QWhen the door cannot be locked by the lock sensor on the surface of the
door handle
QDoor lock buzzer
If an attempt to lock the doors is made when a door is not fully closed, a
buzzer sounds continuously for 5 seconds. Fully close the door to stop the
buzzer, and lock the vehicle once more.
QSetting the alarm (if equipped)
Locking the doors will set the alarm system. (P. 76)
QIf the smart entry & start system or the wireless remote control does not
operate properly
OUse the mechanical key to lock and unlock the doors. (P. 693)
OReplace the key battery with a new one if it is depleted. (P. 631) When the door cannot be locked even if

lock sensor with the palm.
When gloves are being worn, remove the

The driver’s door and front pas-

The door cannot be locked if the power switch is in ACCESSORY or
ON mode, or the electronic key is left inside the vehicle.
The key may not be detected correctly and the door may be locked.

QOpen door warning buzzer
If the vehicle speed reaches 5 km/h (3 mph), the master warning light flashes
and a buzzer sounds to indicate that the door(s) is not fully closed.
The open door(s) is displayed on the multi-information display.

wireless remote control

QRear seat reminder function
OIn order to remind you not to forget luggage, etc. in the rear seat, when the
power switch is turned off after any of the following conditions are met, a
buzzer will sound and a message will be displayed on the multi-information
display for approximately 6 seconds.
• The hybrid system is started within 10 minutes after opening and closing
a rear door.
• A rear door has been opened and closed after the hybrid system was
started.
However, if a rear door is opened and then closed within approximately 2
seconds, the rear seat reminder function may not operate.
OThe rear seat reminder function determines that luggage, etc. has been
placed in a rear seat based on opening and closing of a rear door. There-
fore, depending on the situation, the rear seat reminder function may not
operate and you may still forget luggage, etc. in the rear seat, or it may
operate unnecessarily.
OThe rear seat reminder function can be enabled/disabled. (P. 724)

WARNING
QTo prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door opening and an occupant c ould be
thrown out of the vehicle, resul ting in death or serious injury.
O Ensure that all doors are properly closed.
O Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.
Be especially careful for the driver’s door and front passenger ’s door (for
left-hand drive vehicles only), as the door may be opened even if the
inside lock buttons are in locked position.
O Set the rear door child-protector locks when children are seated in the rear
seats.
Q When opening or closing a door
Check the surroundings of the vehicle such as whether the vehic le is on an
incline, whether there is enough space for a door to open and w hether a
strong wind is blowing. When opening or closing the door, hold the door
handle tightly to prepare for any unpredictable movement.
Q When using the wireless remote control and operating the power win-
dows
Operate the power window after checking to make sure that there is no pos-
sibility of any passenger having any of their body parts caught in the side
window. Also, do not allow children to operate the wireless rem ote control. It
is possible for children and other passengers to get caught in the power
window.
