The capacity of the hybrid battery (traction battery) will decline gradually
when the hybrid battery (traction battery) is in use. The rate at which it
declines will differ in accordance with environmental conditions and the way
in which the vehicle is used. Observing the following can help suppress bat-
tery capacity decline.
OAvoid parking the vehicle in areas with a high temperature under direct sun-
light when the hybrid battery (traction battery) is fully charged.
OAvoid accelerating and decelerating frequently and suddenly when EV driv-
ing.
OAvoid frequent driving near the top speed for EV driving. (P. 9 4 )
OLeave a low level of charge in the hybrid battery (traction battery) when
leaving the vehicle undriven for a long period of time.
After confirming that EV mode has switched to HV mode, turn the power
switch off.
OUse the charging schedule function as much as possible in order to fully
charge the hybrid battery (traction battery) immediately before starting off.

Also, if the hybrid battery (traction battery) capacity reduces, the distance that
can be driven in EV mode decreases. However, vehicle performance does
not significantly become worse.
QWhen the remaining charge of the hybrid battery (traction battery) is low
after charging
In the following situations, the remaining charge of the hybrid battery (traction
battery) after charging completes may be less than normal in order to protect
the system (the EV driving range after the battery is fully charged may be
shorter).

OCharging is carried out when the outside temperature is low or high
OCharging is carried out immediately after high-load driving or in extreme
heat
When none of the above situations apply and there is a drastic drop in the
remaining charge of the hybrid battery (traction battery) after charging com-
pletes, have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
*: When this occurs, even if the remaining charge display of the hybrid battery
(traction battery) shows that it is fully charged, the remaining charge rapidly
decreases faster than normal.
QWhen the charging amount sent to the hybrid battery (traction battery)
decreases
When the amount of power supplied by the charger is low or operation of the
“Traction Battery Heater”, etc., reduces the charging power sent to the hybrid
battery (traction battery), the charging amount sent to the hybrid battery (trac-
tion battery) may decrease.

If the charging indicator flashes
after inserting the charging con-
nector:
The charge schedule is regis-
tered (P. 166). Carry an elec-
tronic key and press the
charging connector lock switch
to unlock the charging connec-
tor.
After temporarily removing the charging connector, reinsert it within
approximately 5 seconds. (P. 158)
If the error warning indicator on the CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting
Device) flashes during charging, check P. 120 and follow the correction
procedure.
The charging indicator will turn off when charging is completed.
QDuring charging
OThe surface of the CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting Device) may become
hot, but this does not indicate a malfunction. (When using Mode 2 charging
cable.)
ODepending on radio wave conditions, interference may be heard on the
radio.
OThe current charging condition and the estimated time until charging will
complete can be checked on the multi-information display. (P. 149)
ODuring charging, the hybrid battery (traction battery) status indicator illumi-
nates and flashes, and changes according to the charging amount.

QIf the charging indicator flashes after connecting the charging cable
The charge schedule (P. 166) is registered and charging cannot be per-
formed. To cancel charging using the charging schedule and start charging,
perform any of the following procedures.
OTurn “Charge Now” on (P. 174)
OWhile the charging indicator is flashing, remove and reconnect the charging
connector within 5 seconds

QWhen charging
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause an unexpected accident, resulting in death or
serious injury.
O Connect to a power source suitable for charging. (P. 139)
O Before charging, check that the charging inlet does not have deformations,
damage, corrosion, dust or other foreign materials such as snow or ice
adhering to it. If anything is adhering to the inlet, be sure t o completely
remove the material before connecting the charging connector.
O Mode 3 charging cable: Before inserting the charging plug into the char-
ger, make sure there is no dirt or dust on the terminal areas. If there is dirt
or dust on these areas, remove it completely before inserting t he charging
plug.
O Do not let the terminals of the charging inlet get wet.
O Make sure that the charging cable, plug and socket are free of foreign mat-
ter and not deformed or damaged.
O Only use sockets where the plug can be securely inserted.
O Do not charge if the charging cable is coiled or bundled.
O Wrapping the charging cable while in-use is not recommended because
cable may overheat. Failure to rewrap charging cable when not i n-use
could result in strangulation or tripping hazard.
O Do not touch the terminals of the charging connector and charging inlet
with a sharp metal objects (needles etc.) or hands, or short th em with for-
eign objects.
O When charging outdoors, make sure to connect to a rain-tight socket for
outdoor use.
Ensure the rain-tight cover closes completely. If the rain-tigh t cover cannot
be closed, install a rain-ti ght cover that will close.
O If any heat, smoke, odors, noise or other abnormalities are noticed during
charging, stop charging immediately.
O Do not insert the plug if the socket is submerged in water or snow.
O When charging during rain or snow, do not pull out or insert the plug with
wet hands. Also, do not get the electrical socket and plug wet.
O Do not charge the vehicle during a lightning storm.
O Do not let the wheels on the charging cable, plug, charging connector and
CCID (Charging Circuit Interrupting Device).
O Firmly insert the plug into the socket.
O Do not use an extension cord and converting adaptor.

Even if multiple consecutive charge schedules are registered, the next
charge will not be carried out according to the charging schedule until the
charging cable is removed and reconnected after charging completes. Also,
when the hybrid battery (traction battery) is fully charged, charging according
to the charging schedule will not be carried out.
Q“Climate Prep” (if equipped)
OWhen the air conditioning-linked setting is turned on, the air conditioning
operates until the set departure time. Therefore, the air conditioning will con-
sume electricity and charging may not complete by the set departure time.
OIf the hybrid battery (traction battery) is fully charged, charging will not be
carried out, even if the charge schedule is set. However, if “Climate Prep” is
turned on, the air conditioning will operate only once when it nears the time
set in “Departure”. If this occurs, the air conditioning will consume electricity
and the remaining charge of the hybrid battery (traction battery) when
departing may be decreased.
OWhen the doors are unlocked, the air conditioning system does not operate.
QWhen charging schedules are ignored
When the following operations are performed while the charging schedule is
on standby, charging schedule is temporarily canceled and charging is
started.
OWhen the Remote Air Conditioning System (P. 535) is operated
OWhen turning “Charge Now” on (P. 174)
OWhen an operation that temporarily cancels charging using the charging
schedule is performed (P. 158)
QEffects of outside temperature
When the charging mode is set to “Departure”, charging schedule may be
ignored due to the outside temperature and charging may start.
Q“Traction Battery Cooler” (if equipped) (P. 145)
When charging is carried out using the charging schedule, the hybrid battery
(traction battery) cooling function may operate according to the temperature
of the hybrid battery (traction battery).
OWhen the charging mode is set to “Start”, cooling starts at the set charging
start time.
OWhen the charging mode is set to “Departure”, cooling starts approximately
30 minutes before the charging start time. However, if there is no time to fin-
ish charging by the charging schedule, the hybrid battery (traction battery)
cooling time may be shortened and “Traction Battery Cooler” may not oper-
ate.

QAdjusting the instrument cluster brightness (P. 196)
OThe brightness levels that can be selected differ depending on whether the
tail lights are on and surrounding brightness levels, as shown in the table
below.
*: 22 levels of the brightness are displayed on the setting screen. However,
the brightness setting will be the brightest when other than 1st level (the
darkest) is selected. If other than 1st or 22nd level is selected, when the
tail lights are turned on in a dark place, the instrument cluster brightness
setting will be the selected level.
OIf the taillights are illuminated in a dark environment, the instrument cluster
light dims. However, when the brightness of the instrument cluster is set to
minimum or maximum (1st or 22nd level of the instrument cluster bright-
ness), even if the taillights are illuminated, the instrument cluster light will
not dim.
QWhen disconnecting and reconnecting 12-volt battery terminals
The settings of the clock will be reset.
QCalendar setting
OUntil the calendar setting is completed, the check screen is displayed every
time the power switch is turned to ON mode.
OAfter the calendar information is set, it can be changed in the “Meter Custo-
mize” settings. (P. 250)
