Immobilizer system
System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type immobilizer system.
Conditions affecting operation
Depending on the surrounding environment and conditions, the immobilizer
system may not operate properly. This may prevent the hybrid system from
starting. (P. 73)
The vehicle’s keys have built-in transponder chips that prevent the
hybrid system from starting if a key has not been previously regis-
tered in the vehicle’s on-board computer.
Never leave the keys inside the vehicle when you leave the vehicle.
The indicator light flashes after
the “POWER” switch has been

The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.
Items to check before locking the vehicle
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft, make sure
of the following:
Nobody is in the vehicle.
The windows is closed before the alarm is set.
No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle.
Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the following situations.
(Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.)
The doors are unlocked using the
mechanical key.
A person inside the vehicle opens a
door, the back door or hood.
The 12-volt battery is recharged or
replaced when the vehicle is locked.

Alarm-operated door lock
When the alarm is operating, the doors are locked automatically to pre-
vent intruders.
Do not leave the key inside the vehicle when the alarm is operating, and
make sure the key is not inside the vehicle when recharging or replacing
the 12-volt battery.
Canceling and automatic re-enabling of the intrusion sensor
The alarm will still be set even when the intrusion sensor is canceled.
After the intrusion sensor is canceled, pressing the “POWER” switch or
unlocking the doors using the entry function or wireless remote control
will re-enable the intrusion sensor.
When the alarm system is set again, the intrusion sensor will be set.
Intrusion sensor considerations
The sensor may trigger the alarm in the following situations:
Persons or pets are in the vehicle.
A window is open.
In this case, the sensor may detect the
following:
• Wind or the movement of objects
such as leaves and insects inside
the vehicle
• Ultrasonic waves emitted from
devices such as the intrusion sen-
sors of other vehicles
• The movement of people outside
the vehicle

Airbag manual on-off system
Deactivating the front seat passenger airbag
Insert the mechanical key into
the cylinder and rotate to the
“OFF” position.
The “OFF” indicator turns on.
This system deactivates the front passenger airbag.
Only deactivate the airbags when using a child restraint system on
the front passenger seat.
“PASSENGER AIR BAG”

the airbag system is “ON”.

When using this child restraint system, adjust the second seat
back to 5th lock position from the 1st lock position (most upright
position), and move the second seat to the rear most lock posi-
tion.
*2: When you use a child restraint system in this position, remove
the head restraint, adjust the second seat back to 5th lock posi-
tion from the 1st lock position (most upright position), and move
the second seat to the 6th lock position from rear most lock posi-
tion, and adjust the child seat head restraint 4th lock position
from most highest position.

tion (A to G), for the applicable mass group, the car manufac-
turer shall indicate the vehicle specific ISOFIX child restraint
system(s) recommended for each position.
Key of letters inserted in the above table:
IUF: Suitable for ISOFIX forward-facing child restraints systems of
universal category approved for the use in this mass group.
IL: Toyota recommend to use “TOYOTA MIDI” approved for the use
in this mass group. When using this child restraint system,
adjust the support leg to 6th lock position from 1st lock position
where the support leg is shortest position. Move the seat to the
rear most lock position, and adjust the seat back to the 2nd lock
position from the most upright position.
X: ISOFIX position not suitable for ISOFIX child restraint systems
in this mass group and/or this size class.
*: When you use a child restraint system in this position, remove
the head restraint.
The child restraint systems mentioned in the table may not be avail-
able outside of the EU area.
Other child restraint systems different from the systems mentioned in
the table can be used, but the suitability of the systems must be care-
fully checked with the child restraint system manufacturer and
retailer.

Driving the vehicle
The following procedures should be observed to ensure safe driv-
ing:
Starting the hybrid system

Driving
With the brake pedal depressed, shift the shift position to D.

Check that the shift position indicator shows D. (P. 236)
Release the parking brake. (P. 234)
Gradually release the brake pedal and gently depress the
accelerator pedal to accelerate the vehicle.
Stopping
With the shift position in D, depress the brake pedal.
If necessary, set the parking brake.
When the vehicle will be stopped for an extended period of time,
shift the shift position to P. (P. 227)
Parking the vehicle
Stop the vehicle completely.
Set the parking brake. (P. 234)
Shift the shift position to P. (P. 227)
Check that the shift position indicator shows P. (P. 224)
Press the “POWER” switch to stop the hybrid system.
Slowly release the brake pedal.
Lock the door, making sure that you have the electronic key
on your person.
When parking on a hill, block the wheels as needed.

Power (ignition) switch
Performing the following operations when carrying the electronic
key on your person starts the hybrid system or changes “POWER”
switch modes.
Starting the hybrid system
Check that the parking brake is set.
Firmly depress the brake pedal.
Check that the “POWER” switch indicator turns green. If the indi-
cator does not turn green, the hybrid system cannot be started.
When the shift position is N, the hybrid system cannot start. Shift
the shift position to P when starting the hybrid system. (P. 227)
Press the “POWER” switch.
The hybrid system can be
started from any “POWER”
switch mode.

Auto power off function
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY mode for more than 20 minutes or ON
mode (the hybrid system is not operating) for more than an hour with the
shift position in P, the “POWER” switch will automatically turn off. However,
this function cannot entirely prevent the 12-volt battery from discharging. Do
not leave the vehicle with the “POWER” switch in ACCESSORY or ON mode
for long periods of time when the hybrid system is not operating.

When the ambient temperature is low, such as during winter driving
conditions
The “READY” indicator may flash for a long time when the hybrid system is
starting. Driving will become possible once the “READY” indicator has illumi-
nated. Wait until the “READY” indicator has illuminated.

When the “POWER” switch indicator flashes in amber
The system may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle inspected by any
authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped
professional immediately.
If the “READY” indicator does not come on
If the “READY” indicator does not come on when you press the “POWER”
switch with the shift position in P and the brake pedal depressed, contact
any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional immediately.
If the hybrid system is malfunctioning

Operation of the “POWER” switch
When operating the “POWER” switch, one short, firm press is enough. If
the switch is pressed improperly, the hybrid system may not start or the
“POWER” switch mode may not change. It is not necessary to press and
hold the switch.
If attempting to restart the hybrid system immediately after turning the
“POWER” switch off, the hybrid system may not start in some cases.
After turning the “POWER” switch off, please wait a few seconds before
restarting the hybrid system.
