The mode switches between recirculated air mode and outside air mode
each time the button is pressed.
The indicator on turn on when the recirculated air mode is
selected.
Defogging the windshield

The air conditioning system oper-
ates automatically.
Recirculated air mode will auto-
matically switch to outside air
mode. It is not possible to return
to recirculated air mode when the
switch is on.
Once the fog has been removed,
pressing again will return
to the previous mode.

Operates pollen removal mode

Using automatic mode
Fan speed is adjusted automatically according to the temperature setting
and ambient conditions. As a result, the following may occur:
Immediately after is pressed, the fan may stop for a while until
warm or cool air is ready to flow.
Cool air may flow to the area around the upper body when the heater is
on.
After pressing
The selection frame will automatically move to the fan speed display.
Switching between outside air and recirculated air modes
Recirculated air mode or outside air mode may be automatically switched to
in accordance with the temperature setting and the inside temperature.
Also, outside air mode may be automatically switched to when the outside
temperature is low.
Using the system in recirculated air mode
The windows will fog up more easily if recirculated air mode is used.
Window defogger feature
Recirculated air mode may automatically switch to outside air mode in situa-
tions where the windows need to be defogged.

Pollen removal mode
In order to prevent the windshield from fogging up when the outside air is
cold, the following may occur:
• Outside air mode does not switch to recirculated air mode.
• The air conditioning system operates automatically.
• The operation cancels after 1 minute.
In rainy weather, the windows may fog up. Press .
Outside temperature display
In the following situations, the correct outside temperature may not be dis-
played, or the display may take longer than normal to change.
When stopped, or driving at low speeds (less than 25 km/h [16 mph])
When the outside temperature has changed suddenly (at the entrance/
exit of a garage, tunnel, etc.)
Operation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode
In the Eco drive mode, the air conditioning system is controlled as follows to
prioritize fuel efficiency:
Engine speed and compressor operation controlled to restrict heating/
cooling capacity
Fan speed restricted when automatic mode is selected
To improve air conditioning performance, perform the following operations:
Adjust the fan speed and temperature
Turn off Eco drive mode (P. 226)
Customize the air conditioning control of Eco drive mode. (P. 554)
When outside air temperature is below 0 C (32 F)
The cooling and dehumidification function may not operate even when
is pressed.

Air conditioning odors
During use, various odors from inside and outside the vehicle may enter
into and accumulate in the air conditioning system. This may then cause
odor to be emitted from the vents.
To reduce potential odors from occurring:
• It is recommended that the air conditioning system be set to outside air
mode prior to turning the vehicle off.
• The start timing of the blower may be delayed for a short period of time
immediately after the air conditioning system is started in automatic
mode.
Customization
Settings (e.g. switching between outside air and recirculated air mode linked
to “AUTO” switch operation) can be changed.

CAUTION
To prevent the windshield from fogging up
Do not use
during cool air operation in extremely humid weather. The
difference between the temperature of the outside air and that of the wind-
shield can cause the outer surface of the windshield to fog up, blocking your
vision.
NOTICE
To prevent 12-volt battery discharge
Do not leave the air conditioning system on longer than necessary when the
hybrid system is off.

Using the steering wheel climate remote control switches
Adjusting the temperature setting
Press “” on to increase the temperature and “” to decrease
the temperature.
Changing the outside air or recirculated air modes
Press .
The mode switches between outside air mode and recirculated air mode
each time the switch is pressed.
Some air conditioning features can be controlled using the switches
on the steering wheel.

When changing the temperature setting using the steering switches
The temperature will change, however the position of the selection frame on
the air conditioning display will remain the same.
When operating the steering switches (vehicles with head-up display)
The steering switches operation status is displayed on the head-up dis-
play for confirmation purposes. (P. 255)
CAUTION
To reduce the risk of an accident
Exercise care when operating the air conditioning switches on the steering
wheel.
Settings are shown on the head-up dis-
play when the steering switch is oper-
ated.
