Emergency locking retractor (ELR)
The retractor will lock the belt during a sudden stop or on impact. It may also
lock if you lean forward too quickly. A slow, easy motion will allow the belt to
extend so that you can move around fully.
Pregnant women
Obtain medical advice and wear the seat
belt in the proper way. (P. 120)
Women who are pregnant should position
the lap belt as low as possible over the
hips in the same manner as other occu-
pants. Extend the shoulder belt com-
pletely over the shoulder and position the
belt across the chest. Avoid belt contact
over the rounding of the abdominal area.
If the seat belt is not worn properly, not
only the pregnant woman, but also the
fetus could suffer death or serious injury
as a result of sudden braking or a colli-
sion.

CAUTION
Seat belt damage and wear
Do not damage the seat belts by allowing the belt, plate, or buckle to be
jammed in the door.
Inspect the seat belt system periodically. Check for cuts, fraying, and loose
parts. Do not use a damaged seat belt until it is replaced. Damaged seat
belts cannot protect an occupant from death or serious injury.
Ensure that the belt and plate are locked and the belt is not twisted.
If the seat belt does not function correctly, immediately contact any autho-
rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped pro-
fessional.
Replace the seat assembly, including the belts, if your vehicle has been
involved in a serious accident, even if there’s no obvious damage.
Do not attempt to install, remove, modify, disassemble or dispose of the
seat belts. Have any necessary repairs carried out by any authorized
Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional. Inappropriate handling of the pretensioner may prevent it from
operating properly, resulting in death or serious injury.

Steering wheel
CAUTION
Caution while driving
Do not adjust the steering wheel while driving.
Doing so may cause the driver to mishandle the vehicle and cause an acci-
dent, resulting in death or serious injury.
After adjusting the steering wheel
Make sure that the steering wheel is securely locked.
Otherwise, the steering wheel may move suddenly, possibly causing an
accident, and resulting in death or serious injury.
The steering wheel can be adjusted to a comfortable position.
Hold the steering wheel and
push the lever down.
Adjust to the ideal position by
moving the steering wheel
horizontally and vertically.
After adjustment, pull the lever
up to secure the steering
wheel.

Power windows
Window lock switch
Press the switch down to lock
the passenger windows.
Use this switch to prevent chil-
dren from accidentally opening or
closing a passenger window.
Press the switch again to unlock
the passenger windows.
The power windows can be opened and closed using the switches.
Operating the switch moves the windows as follows:
Closing
One-touch closing

Double locking system
Setting the double locking system
Turn the “POWER” switch off, have all the passengers exit the vehi-
cle and ensure that all the doors are closed.
Using the entry function:
Touch the sensor area on the driver’s outside door handle or front
passenger’s door handle (if equipped with the sensor) twice within 5
seconds.
Using the wireless remote control:
Press
twice within 5 seconds.
: If equipped
Unauthorized access to the vehicle is prevented by disabling the
door unlocking function from both the interior and exterior of the
vehicle.
Vehicles employing this sys-
tem have labels on the win-
dow glass of both front doors.

Canceling the double locking system
Using the entry function:
Hold the outside door handle on the driver side or front passenger
side (if equipped with the sensor).
Using the wireless remote control:
Press .
CAUTION
Double locking system precaution
Never activate the double locking system when there are people in the vehi-
cle because all the doors cannot be opened from inside the vehicle.

Alarm
: If equipped
The system sounds the alarm and flashes lights when forced entry is
detected.
Triggering of the alarm
The alarm is triggered in the following situations when the alarm
is set.
A locked door or back door is unlocked or opened in any way
other than using the entry function or wireless remote control.
The hood is opened.
If equipped, the intrusion sensor detects something moving
inside the vehicle. (An intruder gets in the vehicle.)
If equipped, the quarter windows or back door window are
tapped or broken.
Setting the alarm system
Close the doors and hood,
and lock all doors using the
entry function or wireless
remote control. The system
will be set automatically after
30 seconds.
The indicator light changes
from being on to flashing when
the system is set.

Intrusion sensor (if equipped)
The intrusion sensor detects intruders or movement in the vehicle.
When an intruder or movement is detected, the alarm will be trig-
gered.
The intrusion sensor can be canceled using the cancel switch.
This system is designed to deter and prevent vehicle theft but does
not guarantee absolute security against all intrusions.
Canceling the intrusion sensor
Turn the “POWER” switch off
and press the intrusion sensor
cancel switch.
Pressing the switch again will re-
enable the intrusion sensor.
The intrusion sensor will revert to
on each time the “POWER”
switch is turned to ON mode.
Deactivating or stopping the alarm
Do one of the following to deactivate or stop the alarm:
Unlock the doors using the entry function or wireless remote
control.
Start the hybrid system. (The alarm will be deactivated or
stopped after a few seconds.)

System maintenance
The vehicle has a maintenance-free type alarm system.
Items to check before locking the vehicle
To prevent unexpected triggering of the alarm and vehicle theft, make sure
of the following:
Nobody is in the vehicle.
The windows is closed before the alarm is set.
No valuables or other personal items are left in the vehicle.
Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be triggered in the following situations.
(Stopping the alarm deactivates the alarm system.)
The doors are unlocked using the
mechanical key.
A person inside the vehicle opens a
door, the back door or hood.
The 12-volt battery is recharged or
replaced when the vehicle is locked.

Alarm-operated door lock
When the alarm is operating, the doors are locked automatically to pre-
vent intruders.
Do not leave the key inside the vehicle when the alarm is operating, and
make sure the key is not inside the vehicle when recharging or replacing
the 12-volt battery.
Canceling and automatic re-enabling of the intrusion sensor
The alarm will still be set even when the intrusion sensor is canceled.
After the intrusion sensor is canceled, pressing the “POWER” switch or
unlocking the doors using the entry function or wireless remote control
will re-enable the intrusion sensor.
When the alarm system is set again, the intrusion sensor will be set.
Intrusion sensor considerations
The sensor may trigger the alarm in the following situations:
Persons or pets are in the vehicle.
A window is open.
In this case, the sensor may detect the
following:
• Wind or the movement of objects
such as leaves and insects inside
the vehicle
• Ultrasonic waves emitted from
devices such as the intrusion sen-
sors of other vehicles
• The movement of people outside
the vehicle
