Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle
There may be no engine sound or vibration even though the vehicle is able to
move with the “READY” indicator is illuminated. For safety, apply the parking
brake and make sure to shift the shift position to P when parked.
The following sounds or vibrations may occur when the hybrid system is
operating and are not a malfunction:
●Motor sounds may be heard from the engine compartment.
● Sounds may be heard from the hybrid battery (traction battery) when the
hybrid system starts or stops.
● Relay operating sounds such as a snap or soft clank will be emitted from the
hybrid battery (traction battery), behind the rear seats, when the hybrid sys-
tem is started or stopped.
● Sounds from the hybrid system may be heard when the back door is open.
● Sounds may be heard from the transmission when the gasoline engine
starts or stops, when driving at low speeds, or during idling.
● Engine sounds may be heard when accelerating sharply.
● Sounds may be heard due to regenerative braking when the brake pedal is
depressed or as the accelerator pedal is released.
● Vibration may be felt when the gasoline engine starts or stops.
● Cooling fan sounds may be heard from the air intake vent under the right-
hand front seat.
■ Maintenance, repair, recycling, and disposal
Contact any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified
and equipped professional regarding maintenance, repair, recycling and dis-
posal. Do not dispose of the vehicle yourself.

WARNING
■ Road accident cautions
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of death or serious
injury:
●Pull your vehicle off the road, apply the parking brake, shift the shift posi-
tion to P, and turn the hybrid system off.
● Do not touch the high voltage parts, cables and connectors.
● If electric wires are exposed inside or outside your vehicle, an electric
shock may occur. Never touch exposed electric wires.
● Do not touch the battery if liquid is leaking from or adhering to it.
If electrolyte (carbonic-based organic el ectrolyte) from the hybrid battery
(traction battery) comes into contact with the eyes or skin, it could cause
blindness or skin wounds. In the unlikely event that it comes into contact
with the eyes or skin, wash it off immediately with a large amount of water,
and seek immediate medical attention.
● If electrolyte is leaking from the hybrid battery (traction battery), do not
approach the vehicle.
Even in the unlikely event that the hybrid battery (traction battery) is dam-
aged, the internal construction of the battery will prevent a large amount of
electrolyte from leaking out. However, any electrolyte that does leak out
will give off a vapor. This vapor is an irritant to skin and eyes and could
cause acute poisoning if inhaled.
● Do not bring burning or high-temperature items close to the electrolyte.
The electrolyte may ignite and cause a fire.
● If a fire occurs in the hybrid vehicle, leave the vehicle as soon as possible.
Never use a fire extinguisher that is not meant for electric fires. Using even
a small amount of water may be dangerous.
● If your vehicle needs to be towed, do so with front wheels raised. If the
wheels connected to the electric motor (traction motor) are on the ground
when towing, the motor may continue to generate electricity. This may
cause a fire. ( →P. 380)
● Carefully inspect the ground under the vehicle. If you find that liquid has
leaked onto the ground, the fuel system may have been damaged. Leave
the vehicle as soon as possible.

The items displayed on Hybrid System Indicator can be changed by
operating the DISP button. Fully stop the vehicle and set the parking
brake, and then press the P position switch.After pressing the DISP button

If setup is not completed by pressing and holding the DISP button for 1
second or more, or if nothing is operated within approximately 10 sec-

Before flattening the seatbacks
Stop the vehicle in a safe place.
Apply the parking brake firmly and shift the shift position to P. ( →P. 217)
Slide the second seats as far back as possible. ( →P. 174)
■Flattening the seatbacks
Move the front seat forward
and remove the head
restraint. ( →P. 182)
Tilt the front seatback to the
same height as the rear seat
cushion.
To return the seats, reverse the procedure.
After returning the seats to their original position, make sure to replace
the head restraint.

WARNING
■ When adjusting the seat position
●Take care when adjusting the seat position to ensure that other passen-
gers are not injured by the moving seat.
● Do not put your hands under the seat or near the moving parts to avoid
injury.
Fingers or hands may become jammed in the seat mechanism.
■ Seat adjustment
●To reduce the risk of sliding under the lap belt during a collision, do not
recline the seat more than necessary.
If the seat is too reclined, the lap belt may slide past the hips and apply
restraint forces directly to the abdomen, or your neck may contact the
shoulder belt, increasing the risk of death or serious injury in the event of
an accident.
Adjustments should not be made while driving as the seat may unexpect-
edly move and cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
● Manual seats: After adjusting the seat, make sure that the seat is locked in
position.
● When returning the seats to their upright positions, be careful not to catch
the seat belts.
■ Flattening the seats
Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may result in death or
serious injury.
●Do not flatten the seats while driving.
● In a flat place, apply the parking brake firmly and shift the shift position to
P.
● Do not flatten the seats if they are occupied.
● Be careful not to get feet or hands caught in the moving parts or joints of
the seats while flattening.
● Do not allow children to flatten the seats.
● Do not drive with passengers sitting on the flattened seatback or in the lug-
gage compartment.
● Do not drive with luggage or passengers on the flattened seats.
● Do not allow children to enter the luggage compartment.
● After flattening, gently rock the seats to ensure they are firmly in place.
● Make sure that the seat belts are not caught in the gaps between the
seats.

Park the vehicle in a safe place.
Apply the parking brake firmly and shift the shift position to P. (→P. 217)
Adjust the position of the front seat and the angle of the seatback.

Depending on the position of the front seat, if the seatback is folded back-
ward, it may interfere with the operation of the second seat.
Uncouple and stow the second center seat belt. ( →P. 4 0 )
Lower the head restraint of the second seat. ( →P. 182)
Pull the lever (either or )
and tilt the seatback forward.
Press the seat-folding button.
