Switches between odometer and
trip meter displays. When the trip
meter is displayed, pressing and
holding the TRIP button will reset
the trip meter.
• While the odometer is being dis-
played, or when the odometer/trip
meter are not being displayed,
the average fuel consumption
from the last reset will be dis-
played.
• While the trip meter is being dis-
played, the average fuel con-
sumption will be displayed in
accordance with the trip meter
distance from the last reset.
• The function can be reset by pressing the TRIP button for longer than 1
second when the average fuel consumption is displayed on the trip
meter.
Use the displayed average fuel consumption as a reference.
The brightness of the instrument cluster lights can be adjusted by 4
steps each time the button is pressed.
When the tail light is on, the brightness of the instrument cluster lights
can be adjusted. (For vehicles with the automatic light control system,
the lights can be adjusted when the tail light is on and the surrounding
area is dark.)

To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recom-
mended:
â—For the first 300 km (200 miles):
Avoid sudden stops.
â—For the first 1600 km (1000 miles):
• Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
• Avoid sudden acceleration.
• Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.
â– Drum-in-disc type parking brake system
Your vehicle has a drum-in-disc type parking brake system. This type of brake
system needs bedding-down of the brake shoes periodically or whenever the
parking brake shoes and/or drum are replaced. Have any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer perform the bed-
ding down operation.
â– Operating your vehicle in a foreign country
Comply with the relevant vehicle registration laws and confirm the availability
of the correct fuel. (ï‚®P. 528)

To help prevent incorrect fueling, your vehicle has a fuel tank opening that
only accommodates the special nozzle on unleaded fuel pumps.
Perform the following steps to open the fuel tank cap:

When trouble arises
If the hybrid system will not start
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
â— The electronic key may not be functioning properly.* (ï‚®P. 5 1 1 )
◠There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle. ( ï‚®P. 8 7 )
â— There may be a malfunction in the immobilizer system.* (ï‚®P. 9 1 )
â— There may be a malfunction in the shift control system.*

â— The hybrid system may be malfunctioning due to an electrical prob-
lem such as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. How-
ever, depending on the type of malfunction, an interim measure is
available to start the hybrid system. ( ï‚®P. 510)
*: It may not be possible to shift the shift position other than P.
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
â— The 12-volt battery may be discharged. (ï‚®P. 513)
â— The 12-volt battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
( ï‚®P. 389)
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on
the situation. Check the following and perform the appropriate
procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting
procedure is being followed. ( ï‚®P. 224)
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does not
sound or sounds at a low volume.

â– Use of ethanol blended gasoline in a gasoline engine
Toyota allows the use of ethanol blended gasoline where the ethanol content
is up to 10%. Make sure that the ethanol blended gasoline to be used has a
Research Octane Number that follows the above.
â– If your engine knocks
â—Consult any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer.
â—You may occasionally notice light knocking for a short time while accelerat-
ing or driving uphill. This is normal and there is no need for concern.
When you find these types of fuel label at the gas station, use
only the fuel with one of the following labels.
EU area:
You must only use unleaded gasoline conforming to European
standard EN228.
Select unleaded gasoline with a Research Octane Number of 95
or higher for optimum engine performance.
Except EU area:
You must only use unleaded gasoline.
