driver or the like to protect it.
⬛Situations where automatic shif ting occurs in the manual mode
⚫In the manual mode, the gear does not shift unless the driver moves the
shift lever or the paddle shift switch
✽. However, in the following circum-
stances, the system will automatically shift the gears to ensure safety and
maintain driving performance.
⦁ When the vehicle speed has decrease d or increased (The temporary man-
ual mode
✽ may become deactivated)
⚫When the vehicle stops, the transmission is automatically set to the 1-speed
position. (The temporary manual mode
✽ will be deactivated)
⬛Continuous gear transmis sion in the manual mode
⚫Move the shift lever or paddle shift switch to the ✽“+” side or “-” side repeat-
edly. With the shift lever being operated on the “+” side or “-” side, the shift
position cannot be changed continuously.
⬛Shift limit warning buzzer (in manual mode)
Shifting in the manual mode is limited. Th e gear cannot be shifted to the desired
position in some cases. The warning buzzer w ill notify the driver of this if it happens.
⬛Automatic deactivation of the temporary manual mode✽
In any of the following situations, the temporary manual mode will be automat-
ically deactivated.

Eco-friendly driving tips
For improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions, pay atten-
tion to the following points:
◆Accelerator pedal/brake pedal operation
Drive your vehicle smoothly. Avoid abrupt acceleration and deceleration.
Gradual acceleration and deceleration will help reduce excessive fuel con-
sumption.
◆When braking
Observe conditions in front of and around the vehicle, and estimate your
stopping position. Release the accele rator pedal early and continue coast-
ing. Use the brake pedal to adjust your stopping position.
Make sure to operate the brake pedal gently.
◆Delays
Repeated acceleration and deceleration, as well as long waits at traffic
lights, will lead to bad fuel economy. Check traffic reports before leaving
and avoid delays as much as possible.
◆Highway driving
Control and maintain the vehicle at a constant speed. Before stopping at a
toll booth or similar, allow plenty of time to release the accelerator pedal
and gently apply the brakes.
◆Air conditioning
Use the air conditioning only when necessary. Doing so can help
reduce excessive fuel consumption.
In summer: When the ambient temper ature is high, use the recirculated
air mode. Doing so will help to redu ce the burden on the air conditioning
system and reduce fuel consumption as well.
In winter: Turn the A/C switch on on ly when both heating and dehumidify-
ing are needed, and if only heating is needed, turn the A/C switch off.
Turning the A/C switch on when unnece ssary leads to excessive fuel con-
sumption.

⬛When the outside air temperature drops to around 0°C (32℉)
Even if you press , the air conditioning system may not work.
⬛When driving on dusty roads
Close all windows. If dust thrown up by the vehicle is still drawn into the vehicle
after closing the windows, it is recomme nded that the air intake mode be set
to outside air mode and the fan speed to any setting except off.
⬛Outside/recirculated air mode
Setting to the recirculated air mode temporarily is recommended in prevent-
ing dirty air from entering the vehicle interior and helping to cool the vehicle
when the outside air temperature is high.
⬛Ventilation and air conditioning odors
⚫To let fresh air in, set the air conditio ning system to the outside air introduc-
tion mode.
⚫During use, various odors from inside and outside the vehicle may enter into
and accumulate in the air conditioning system. This may then cause odors to
be emitted from the vents.
⚫To reduce potential odors from occurri ng, it is recommended that the air
conditioning system be set to outside air introduction mode prior to turning
the vehicle off.

⬛Using the air conditioning system for cooling
In rare cases, it may appear that fog is blowing out of the air outlet, but this is
normal when moist air is suddenly cooled.
⬛Fogging up of the windows
⚫The windows will easily fog up when th e humidity in the vehicle is high.
Turning on will flow the dehumi dified air from the outlets and
defog the windshield effectively.
⚫If you turn off, the windows may fog up more easily.
⚫The windows may fog up if the re circulated air mode is used.
⬛When the air outlets are set to
In order to deliver cool air to the f ace and warm air to the feet, depending on
the position of the temperature control lever, the air sent to the feet will be
warmer than the air sent to the upper body.
⬛When the outside air temperature drops to around 0°C
Even if you press , the air conditioning system may not work.
⬛When driving on dusty roads
Close all windows. If dust thrown up by the vehicle is still drawn into the vehicle

⬛To prevent the windshield from fogging up
⚫Do not set the air outlet switching dial to the or position when set-
ting the temperature of the air conditioning system low in extremely humid
weather. The difference between the te mperature of the outside air and that
of the windshield can cause the outer surface of the windshield to fog up,
blocking your vision.
⚫Do not place anything on the
instrument panel which may cover
the air outlets. Otherwise, air flow
may be obstructed, preventing the
windshield defoggers from defog-
ging.

⬛Warning performance of the tire pressure warning system✽
The warning of the tire pressure warning system will change in accordance
with the conditions under which it was initialized. For this reason, the system
may give a warning even if the tire pre ssure does not reach a low enough level,
or if the pressure is higher than the pressure that was adjusted to when the
system was initialized.
⬛When initialization of the tire pressure warning system✽ has failed
Initialization can be completed in a fe w minutes. However, in the following
cases, the settings have not been reco rded and the system will not operate
properly. If repeated attempts to reco rd tire inflation pressure settings are
unsuccessful, have the vehicle in spected by your Toyota dealer.
⚫When operating the tire pressure wa rning reset switch, the tire pressure
warning light does not blink 3 times.
⚫After driving for a certain period of time since the initialization has been
completed, the warning light comes on after blinking for 1 minute.
WARNING
⬛When inspecting or replacing tires
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents.
Failure to do so may cause damage to parts of the drive train as well as dan-
gerous handling characteristics, which may lead to an accident resulting in
death or serious injury.
⚫Do not mix tires of different makes, models or tread patterns.
Also, do not mix tires of remarkably different treadwear.
⚫Do not use tire sizes other than those recommended by Toyota.
⚫Do not mix differently constructed tires (r adial, bias-belted or bias-ply tires).
⚫Do not mix summer and all season tires.
⚫Do not use tires that have been used on another vehicle.
Do not use tires if you do not know how they were used previously.
⬛When initializing the tire pressure warning system✽
Do not operate the tire pressure warning reset switch without first adjusting
the tire inflation pressure to the specif ied level. Otherwise, the tire pressure
warning light may not come on even if th e tire inflation pressure is low, or it
may come on when the tire inflation pressure is actually normal.

doors using the wireless remote control or emergency key.
⚫The vehicle engine may not start on the first try after battery discharge. This
is to be expected, and the engine will start properly on the second try
onward.
⚫The vehicle consistently keeps track of its engine switch mode. Even after a
discharged battery is removed, the en gine mode returns to the state before
removing the battery. Please remove the battery after turning the engine
switch “OFF”.
If you are not sure of the engine swit ch mode prior to battery discharge, be
especially careful when connecting the battery.
WARNING
⬛Avoiding battery fires or explosions
Observe the following precautions to prev ent the fire and sparks to be gener-
ated as these may ignite the flammab le gas emitted from the battery of the
second vehicle and cause an explosion:
⚫Make sure each jumper cable is connec ted to the correct terminal and that it
is not unintentionally in contact with any other than the intended terminal.
⚫Do not allow the other end of the jump er cable connected to the “+” terminal
to come into contact with any other pa rts or metal surfaces in the area, such
as brackets or unpainted metal.
