When you quickly push and release the
switch, the back window will open while
the switch is depressed and stop when
released.
To close: Push the switch on the ª
º
side. The back window will fully close au-
tomatically. To stop the window partway,
push either side of the switch.
When you quickly push and release the
switch, the back window will close while
the switch is depressed and stop when
released.
You can also open the back window when
the back window wiper is working. At that
time, the wiper stops working until the
window is closed again.
If the back window is not fully closed, the
back window wiper, washer, and defogger
will not work. (See ªBack window wiper
and washerº on page 154 and ªBack win-
dow and outside rear view mirror defog-
gersº on page 154 in Section 1±5.)Jam protection function: During automat-
ic closing operation, the window stops and
opens slightly if something gets caught
between the window and window frame.
If the window receives a strong impact,
this function may work even if nothing is
caught.
CAUTION
Never try jamming any part of your
body to activate the jam protection
function intentionally.
The jam protection function may
not work if something gets caught
just before the window is fully
closed.
If the battery is disconnected or run
down, the back window may not operate
automatically and the jam protection func-
tion will not function correctly after you
reconnect, replace or recharge the battery.
In any of these cases, you should normal-
ize the back window.
To normalize the back window, close the
window fully by the power back window
switch. If the window has already been
closed, open it slightly and then fully
close it using the power back window
switch.
Make sure that the back window opens
and closes automatically. If the back win-
dow cannot be operated properly, have it
checked by your Toyota dealer.

the band of the headlight and turn sig-
nal switch lever. They will come on
only when the headlights are on low
beam.To turn on the personal light, push the
switch. To turn the light off, push the
switch once again.
ILLUMINATED ENTRY SYSTEM
When the center interior light switch is in
the ªDOORº position and any of the side
doors is opened, the personal light will
come on. After all the side doors are
closed, the light remains on for a certain
time before fading out.
However, in the following cases, the light
goes out immediately:
All the side doors are closed when the
ignition key is in the ªACCº or ªONº
position.
The ignition key is turned to the ªACCº,
ªONº or ªSTARTº position after all the
side doors are closed.
All the doors are locked when the light
is still on.
When all the doors are unlocked using
either the key or the wireless remote con-
trol transmitter simultaneously, the light
come on for about 15 seconds before fad-
ing out.
The following adjustments can be made in
this system. For details, contact your
Toyota dealer.
Cancelling the door key or wireless re-
mote control transmitter linked opera-
tion
Changing the timing for the light turn-
ing off
To prevent the battery being discharged,
the light will automatically turn off when
the key is removed and the door is left
opened with the center interior light switch
in ªDOORº position for 20 minutes or
more.
For details about center interior light, see
ªCenter interior and personal lightsº on
page 150 or ªCenter interior lightº on page

Position 1Intermittent
Position 2Normal
To squirt washer fluid on the back window,
twist the knob upward or downward as far
as it will go (position 3 or 4).
The wiper is activated after the washer
squirts fluid if you twist the knob upward.
But, the washer only squirts fluid if you
twist the knob downward. The knob automatically returns from these
positions after you release it.
For instructions on adding washer fluid,
see ªAdding washer fluidº on page 444 in
Section 7±3.
If the back window is not fully closed, the
back window wiper and washer will not
work. Make sure the back window is fully
closed when using the back window wiper
and washer.
NOTICE
Do not operate the back window wip-
er if the back window is dry. It may
scratch the glass. To defog or defrost the back window,
push the switch with the back window
closed.
The key must be in the ªONº position.
The thin heater wires on the inside of the
back window will quickly clear the surface.
An indicator light will illuminate to indicate

On some models, heater panels in the
outside rear view mirrors will also quickly
clear the surfaces.
Push the switch once again to turn the
defogger off.
The system will automatically shut off af-

If any washer does not work or the low
windshield washer fluid level warning
light comes on, the washer tank may be
empty. Add washer fluid.
You may use plain water as washer fluid.
However, in cold areas where tempera-
tures range below the freezing point, use
washer fluid containing antifreeze. This
product is available at your Toyota dealer
and most auto parts stores. Follow the
manufacturer 's directions for how much to
mix with water.
NOTICE
Do not use engine antifreeze or any
other substitute because it may dam-
age your vehicle's paint.
The following illustrations show how to
gain access to the bulbs. When replacing
a bulb, make sure the ignition switch and
light switch are off. Use bulbs with the
wattage ratings given in the table.
CAUTION
To prevent burning yourself, do not
replace the light bulbs while they
are hot.
Halogen bulbs have pressurized gas
inside and require special handling.
They can burst or shatter if
scratched or dropped. Hold a bulb
only by its plastic or metal case.
Do not touch the glass part of a
bulb with bare hands.
NOTICE
Only use a bulb of the listed type.
The inside of the lens of exterior lights
such as headlights may temporarily fog up
when the lens becomes wet in the rain or
in a car wash. This is not a problem
because the fogging is caused by the
temperature difference between the outside
and inside of the lens, just like the
windshield fogs up in the rain. However, if
there is a large drop of water on the
inside of the lens, or if there is water
pooled inside the light, contact your
Toyota dealer.
