BEFORE TUMBLING SECOND SEATS
Stow the second seat belt buckles as
shown in the illustration.
NOTICE
To prevent damage to the seat belt
buckles, they must be stowed before
you tumble the seatback.
Right side
Left side
TUMBLING SECOND SEATS
Right side—1. Lower the head restraint to the low- est position. Fold down the seatback
while pulling the seatback angle ad-
justing lever and swing the whole
seat up and forward.
To return the tumbled seat:
1. Return the seat until it locks securely.
2. Lift up the seatback by pulling the le- ver.
Note: When the tumbled seat is returned
to the floor, it cannot be directly swung up
to the tumbled position again. When you
return the seat locked in the floor to the
tumbled position, you must lift up the
seatback once and repeat the above op-
erations 1 and 2.
Left side— 1. Lower the head restraints to the low- est position. Fold down the seatback
while pulling the seatback angle ad-
justing lever and swing the whole
seat up and forward while pu lling
the seat lock release lever on the
side.
To return the tumbled seat to the original
position, reverse the above operation.

CAUTION
Make sure people or luggage are
clear of the seat. Then, hold the
seat and slowly move it. Otherwise,
people may be injured or luggage
may be damaged, if the seat hits
them.
To avoid serious injury, do not sit
on the folded seatback.
Left side only—Use the seat lock
release lever on the side only when
folding up the seat.
2. Take the holding strap out of itshole, and hook the strap onto the
assist grip. Then, pull the strap on
the free end to secure the seat.
When returning the second seat to its
original position, put the holding strap into
the hole.
CAUTION
When tumbling the second seats, fix
the seats securely by adjusting the
length of the holding strap. Failure to
do so may cause an unexpected acci-
dent or severe injury in the event of
emergency braking or a collision.
WHEN RETURNING THE SECOND
SEATS
If you cannot raise the seatback be-
cause of the locked seat belt, do not
try it forcibly. Release the lock of the
seat belt in the following way. Push in
the lower front edge of the seatback
cushion to slacken the seat belt (1) and
let the seat belt retract a little (2).

CAUTION
When returning seats to their original
position, observe the following pre-
cautions in order to prevent personal
injury in a collision or sudden stop:
Be careful not to get your hands or
feet pinched in the seat.
Make sure the seat is securely
locked by pushing forward and rear-
ward on the top of the seatback or
by trying to pull up the edge of the
bottom cushion. Failure to do so
will prevent the seat belt from oper-
ating properly.
Make sure the seat belts are not
twisted or caught in the seatback
and are arranged in their proper
position and are ready to use.

From rear1. SEAT POSITION ADJUSTING LEVER
From front—
Hold the center of the lever and pull it
up. Then slide the seat to the desired
position with slight body pressure and
release the lever.
From rear—
Pull the lever up. Then slide the seat
to the desired position and release the
lever.
When a person sits in the third seat
center position, adjust both seat cush-
ions to the same position.
Do not place anything under the seats. It
might interfere with the seat −lock mecha-
nism.
2. SEATBACK ANGLE ADJUSTING LEVER
From front—
Lean forward and pull the lever toward
you. Then lean back to the desired
angle and release the lever.
From rear—
Push down the lever. Push the seatback
forward or pull it backward to the de-
sired angle and release the lever. When a person sits in the third seat
center position, align both seatbacks at
the same angle.
Remove the center head restraint when
adjusting the seat position or seatback
angle.
Store the center head restraint in the aux-
iliary box on the rear left side panel when
it is not in use. (For details, see “Head
restraints” on page 66 in this Section.)

CAUTION
Adjust both seat cushions to the
same position and align both seat-
backs at the same angle when a
person sits in the third seat center
position. Otherwise, the person can-
not wear the seat belt properly and
this may cause serious injuries in
a collision.
Avoid reclining the seatback any
more than needed. The seat belts
provide maximum protection in a
frontal or rear collision when the
passengers are sitting up straight
and well back in the seats. If you
are reclined, the lap belt may slide
past your hips and apply restraint
forces directly to the abdomen or
your neck may contact the shoulder
belt. In the event of a frontal colli-
sion, the more the seat is reclined,
the greater the risk of death or per-
sonal injury.
BEFORE FOLDING UP THIRD SEATS1. Stow the third seat belt buckles as shown in the illustration.
NOTICE
To prevent damage to the seat belt
buckles, they must be stowed before
you tumble the seatback.
2. Make sure the shoulder belt passesthrough the hanger when folding the
third seats.
This prevents the shoulder belt from being
damaged.
CAUTION
The seat belt must be removed from
the hanger when the seat belt is in
use.

3. To stow the center seat belt, pull itslightly out of its cover. It will auto-
matically roll back partway. Roll the
seat belt backwards as shown above
and insert it into the slot of its cov-
er. Make sure the tabs are securely
locked in the cover.
NOTICE
The seat belt must be stowed before
you fold the seatback.
CAUTION
When tumbling the third seats, do not
fold down or up the second seats.
TUMBLING THIRD SEATS
1. Remove the center head restraint.

CAUTION

5. Take the holding strap out of itshole which is on the rear of the sec-
ond seat (For the location of the
strap, see “—Tumbling second seats
for luggage space (bench type)” on
page 52 or “—Tumbling second seats
for luggage space (separate type)”
on page 54 in this Section.), and
hook the strap into the hollow on
the underside of the seat cushion.
Next, pull the strap on the free end
to secure the seat.
When returning the third seats to its origi-
nal position, put the holding strap into the
hole.
CAUTION
When tumbling the third seats, fix
the seats securely by adjusting the
length of the holding strap. Failure
to do so may cause an unexpected
accident or severe injury in the
event of emergency braking or a
collision.
When returning seats to their origi-

2. When removing the third seats, passthe third seat belts through the
hangers.
This prevents the shoulder belt from being
damaged.
CAUTION
The seat belt must be removed from
the hanger when the seat belts is in
use.
3. To stow the center seat belt, pull it slightly out of its cover. It will auto-

REMOVING THIRD SEATS1. Remove the center head restraint.
The removed head restraint can be
stored in the auxiliary box on the rear
left side panel. For details, see “Head
restraints” on page 66 in this Section.
Store the head restraint in the auxiliary
box when it is not in use.
