When driving
The Blind Spot Monitor system detection areas
The outside rear view mirror blind spot areas that vehicles can be
detected in are outlined below.
The range of the detection area
extends to:Approximately 11.5 ft. (3.5 m)
from the side of the vehicle
The first 1.6 ft. (0.5 m) from the
side of the vehicle is not in the
detection area
Approximately 9.8 ft. (3 m)
from the rear bumper
Approximately 3.3 ft. (1 m) for-
ward of the rear bumper
■The Blind Spot Monitor system is operational when
The BSM main switch is set to ON and vehicle speed is greater than about
25 mph (40 km/h)
■ The sensors will detect a vehicle when
The Blind Spot Monitor system will detect a vehicle in the detection area
when the following conditions are met:
●When a vehicle in an adjacent lane overtakes the vehicle
● When another vehicle enters the vehicles detection area when it changes
lanes.

■Conditions under which the sensors will not detect a vehicle
The Blind Spot Monitor system is not designed to detect the following types
of vehicles and/or objects:
●Vehicles that enter the detection area from the opposite direction
● Motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians etc. that enter the detection area*
● Following vehicles that are in the same lane*
● Guardrails, walls, signs, parked vehicles and similar stationary objects
that enter the detection area*
● Vehicles driving 2 lanes across from your vehicle that enter the detection
area*
*: Depending on conditions, unnecessary detection of a vehicle and/or object may occur
■ Conditions under which the Blind Spot Monitor system may not func-
tion correctly
● The Blind Spot Monitor system may not detect vehicles correctly in the
following conditions:
• During bad weather such as heavy rain, fog, snow etc.
• When there is a significant difference in speed between your vehicle
and the vehicle that enters the detection area
• When a vehicle is in the detection area from a stop and remains in the detection area as your vehicle accelerates
• If a vehicle enters the detection area when driving up or down consec- utive steep inclines
• When driving on a road surface that is wet due to rain, previous rain, standing water etc.
• When multiple vehicles approach with only a small gap between each vehicle
• When vehicle lanes are wide, and the vehicle in the next lane is too far away from your vehicle
• When the vehicle that enters the detection area is traveling at about the same speed as your vehicle
• When towing anything such as trailer, boat, etc.

●The Blind Spot Monitor system may detect a vehicle and/or object unnec-
essarily under the following conditions:
• When vehicle lanes are narrow and a vehicle driving 2 lanes across
from your vehicle enters the detection area
• When on sharp bends and a following vehicle is present
■ The outside rear view mirror indicators visibility
When under strong sunlight, the outside rear view mirror indicator may be
difficult to see.
■ When there is a malfunction in the system
If a system malfunction is detected due to any of the following reasons,
warning message appears on the multi-information display: ( P. 613)
● There is a malfunction with the sensors
● The sensors have become dirty
● The outside temperature is extremely high or low
● The sensor voltage has become abnormal
■ Certification for the BSM

CAUTION
■Cautions regarding the use of the system
The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, taking
care to observe your surroundings.
The Blind Spot Monitor is a supplementary system which alerts the driver
that a vehicle is present in the outside rear view mirror’s blind spot. Do not
overly rely on the Blind Spot Monitor system. The system does not judge if it
is safe to change lanes, therefore over reliance could cause an accident
resulting in death or serious injury. According to conditions, the system may
not function correctly. Therefore the driver’s own visual confirmation of
safety is necessary.
■ Handling the radar sensor
There is 1 Blind Spot Monitor sensor installed on the left and right side of the
vehicle rear bumper respectively. Observe the following to ensure the Blind
Spot Monitor system can function correctly.
●Do not subject the sensor or surrounding area on the bumper to a strong
impact. If the sensor moves even slightly off position, the system may mal-
function and vehicles that enter the detection area may not be detected. If
the sensor or surrounding area is subject to a strong impact, always have
the area inspected by your Toyota dealer.
● Do not disassemble the sensor or its surrounding area on the bumper
● Do not attach accessories or stickers to the sensor or surrounding area on
the bumper
● Do not modify the sensor or surrounding area on the bumper
● Do not paint the sensor or surrounding area on the bumper
●Keep the sensor and its surrounding
area on the bumper clean at all times

NOTICE
■
To avoid the compass malfunctions
Do not place magnets or any metal objects near the inside rear view mirror.
Doing this may cause a malfunction of the compass sensor.
■ To ensure normal operation of the compass
●Do not perform circling calibration of the compass in a place where the
earth’s magnetic field is subject to in terference by artificial magnetic fields.
● During calibration, do not operate electric systems (moon roof, power win-
dows, etc.) as they may interfere with the calibration.

Front passenger detection sensor and passenger seat belt reminder
If luggage or other load is placed on the front passenger seat, depending on
its weight, the reminder light to flash and buzzer to sound.
■
When the tire pressure warning light comes on
Check the tire inflation pressure and adjust to the appropriate level.
Pushing the tire pressure warning reset switch does not turn off the tire
pressure warning light.
■The tire pressure warning light may turn on due to natural causes
The tire pressure warning light may turn on due to natural causes such
as natural air leaks or tire inflation pressure changes caused by temper-
ature. In this case, adjusting the ti re inflation pressure will turn off the
warning light (after several minutes).
■When a tire is replaced with a spare tire
The temporary spare tire is not equipped with the tire pressure warning
valve and transmitter. If a tire goes flat, the tire pressure warning light will
not turn off even though the flat tire is replaced with the temporary spare
tire. Replace the temporary spare tire with the repaired tire and adjust
the proper tire inflatio n pressure. The tire pres sure warning light will turn
off after several minutes.
■If the tire pressure warning system is inoperative
The tire pressure warning system will be disabled in the following condi-
tions:
(When the condition be comes normal, the system will work properly.)
●If tires not equipped with tire pressure warning valves and transmit-
ters are used.
●If the ID code on the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters is
not registered in the tire pressure warning computer.
The tire pressure warning system may be disabled in the following condi-
tions:
(When the condition be comes normal, the system will work properly.)
●If electronic devices or facilities using similar radio wave frequencies
are nearby.
●If a radio set at similar frequencies is in use in the vehicle.
●If a window tint that affects the radio wave signals is installed.
