When trouble arises

Indicates  a  malfunction  in  the  BSM  (Blind  Spot
Monitor)A buzzer also sounds.
 Have  the  vehicle  inspected  by  your  Toyota
dealer immediately.
Indicates a malfunction in the RCTA (Rear Cross
Traffic Alert)
A buzzer also sounds.
 Have  the  vehicle  inspected  by  your  Toyota
dealer immediately.
Indicates  a  malfunction  in  the  intuitive  parking
assist sensor (if equipped)
The malfunctioning assist-sensor is flashing.
 Have  the  vehicle  inspected  by  your  Toyota
dealer immediately.
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The automatic headlight leveling system; or
• The LED headlight system.
A buzzer also sounds.
 Have  the  vehicle  inspected  by  your  Toyota
dealer.
Indicates  a  malfunction  in  the  tire  pressure
monitoring system
Stop the vehicle in a safe place and turn
the engine off then start again.
If  the  tire  pressure  warning  indicator
flashes  for  1  minute  then  illuminates,
there  is  a  malfunction  in  the  system.
Have  the  vehicle  inspected  by  your  Toy-
ota dealer.
Indicates  that  the  BSM  (Blind  Spot  Monitor)  sen-
sors  or  the  surrounding  area  on  the  bumper  is
dirty or covered with ice
A buzzer also sounds.
 Clean  the  sensor  and  its  surrounding  area
on the bumper.

■Stopping the engine
Shift the shift lever to P and press the engine switch as you normally do when
stopping the engine.
■ Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary measure, it is recommende d that the
electronic key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted.

■ Changing engine switch modes
Within 10 seconds of the buzzer sounding, release the brake ped al and press
the engine switch.
The engine does not start and modes will be changed each time t he switch is
pressed. ( P. 215)

Add  engine  coolant  if  neces-
sary.
Water  can  be  used  in  an  emer-
gency  if  engine  coolant  is  unavail-
able.
Start  the  engine  to  check  that  the  radiator  cooling  fan  operate and
to check for coolant leaks from the radiator or hoses.
If the fan are not operating: 
Stop the engine immediately and  contact your Toyota dealer.
If the fan are operating: 
Have the vehicle ins pected at the nearest Toyota dealer.

WARNING
■When inspecting under th e hood of your vehicle
Observe the following precautions. 
Failure to do so may result in serious injury such as burns.
● If  steam  is  seen  coming  from  under  the  hood,  do  not  open  the  ho od  until
the steam has subsided. The engine compartment may be very hot.
● Keep hands and clothing (especially a tie, a scarf or a muffler ) away from
the fans and belts.
● Do  not  loosen  the  radiator  cap  and  the  coolant  reservoir  cap  wh ile  the
engine and radiator are hot.
High temperature steam or coolant could spray out.

If  the vehicle becomes stuck
Stop the engine. Set the parking brake and shift the shift lever to P.
Remove the mud, snow or sand  from around the stuck tire.
Place  wood,  stones  or  some  other   material  under  the  tires  to  help
provide traction  under the tires.
Restart the engine.
Lock the center differential. ( P. 316)
Shift the shift lever to D or R position and carefully apply th e accel-
erator to free the vehicle.
■ When it is difficult to free the vehicle
Turn off TRAC or VSC/Trailer Sway Control if these functions ar e hampering
your attempts to free the vehicle. ( P. 324)
Carry out the following procedures if the tires spin or the vehicle
becomes stuck in mud, dirt or snow:
Press   to turn off TRAC or VSC/Trailer
Sway Control.

●Did  you  press  the  engine  switch  while  firmly  depressing  the  brake  pedal?

●Is the electronic key battery weak or depleted? 
In this case, the engine can be started in a temporary way. ( P. 507)

●Is the engine switch in ON?
If you cannot release the shift lever by depressing the brake p edal with the

●It is locked automatically to prevent theft of the vehicle. ( P.   2 1 7 )
●Is the window lock switch pressed? 
The power window except for the one at the driver’s seat cannot be oper-
ated if the window lock switch is pressed. ( P. 165)
If you think something is wrong
The engine does not start 
The shift lever cannot be shifted from P even if you depress
the brake pedal
The  steering  wheel  cannot  be  turned  after  the  engine  is
stopped
The  windows  do  not  open  or  close  by  operating  the  power
window switches

●The auto power off function will be operated if the vehicle is left in ACC or
ON (the engine is not running) for a period of time. ( P. 216)
