901-3. Theft deterrent system
■Alarm-operated door lock
In the following cases, depending on the situation, the door ma y automatically
lock to prevent improper entry into the vehicle:
● When a person remaining in the vehicle locks the door and the alarm is acti-
vated.
● While the alarm is activated, a person remaining in the vehicle unlocks the
door.
● When recharging or replacing the battery.
NOTICE
■To ensure the system operates correctly
Do not modify or remove the system. If modified or removed, the proper
operation of the system cannot be guaranteed.

942. Instrument cluster
*1: These lights turn on when the engine switch is turned to the “ON” position(vehicles without a smart key system) or IGNITION ON mode (vehi cles
with a smart key system) to indicate that a system check is being per-
formed. They will turn off after the engine is started, or after a few seconds.
There may be a malfunction in a system if the lights do not com e on, or if
the lights do not turn off. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer
for details.

■Key battery depletion (type C or type D)
Type C
If the wireless remote control function does not operate, the b attery may be
depleted. Replace the battery when necessary. ( P. 451)
Type D
● The standard battery life is 1 to 2 years.
● If the battery becomes low, an alarm will sound in the cabin wh en the engine
stops. ( P. 508)
● As the electronic key always receives radio waves, the battery will become
depleted even if the electronic key is not used. The following symptoms indi-
cate that the electronic key battery may be depleted. Replace the battery
when necessary. ( P. 451)
• The smart key system or the wireless remote control does not o perate.
• The detection area becomes smaller.
• The LED indicator on the key surface does not turn on.
● To avoid serious deterioration, do not leave the electronic key within 1 m
(3 ft.) of the following electrical appliances that produce a ma gnetic field:
•TVs
• Personal computers
• Cellular phones, cordless phones and battery chargers
• Recharging cellular phones or cordless phones
• Table lamps
• Induction cookers
■ Replacing the battery (type C or type D)

1944-1. Before driving
●Slow down before making a turn, in crosswinds, on wet or slippe ry
surfaces, etc.
Increasing vehicle speed can destabilize the trailer.
● Take care when passing other vehicles. Passing requires consider-
able distance. After passing a vehicle, do not forget the lengt h of
your trailer, and be sure you have plenty of room before changi ng
lanes.
● Vehicles with an automatic transmission: To maintain engine bra k-
ing efficiency and charging system performance when using engin e
braking, do not use the transmission in D. If in the S mode, th e
transmission shift range posit ion must be in 5 or lower.
● Vehicles with a manual transmiss ion: To maintain engine braking
efficiency and charging system performance when using engine
braking, do not use the sixth gear.
● Instability happens more frequently when descending steep or lo ng
downhill grades. Before descending, slow down and downshift. Do
not make sudden downshifts while descending steep or long down-
hill grades.
● Avoid holding the brake pedal down too long or applying the bra kes
too frequently. This could cause the brakes to overheat and result in
reduced braking efficiency.
● Due to the added load of the trailer, your vehicle’s engine may over-
heat on hot days (at temperatures over 85°F [30°C]) when drivin g
up a long or steep grade. If the engine coolant temperature gau ge
indicates overheating, immediately turn off the air conditionin g (if in
use), pull your vehicle off the road and stop in a safe spot.

Please use as a power supply for electronic goods that use less than
12 VDC/10 A (power c onsumption of 120 W).
When using electronic goods, make sure that the power consumpti on
of all the connected power ou tlets are less than 120 W.

The engine switch is in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode.
■ When turning the engine switch off
Disconnect electrical devices with charging functions, such as mobile battery
packs.
If such devices are left connected, the engine switch may not b e turned off
normally.
Power outlet (12 V DC)
NOTICE
● Close the power outlet lids when the power outlet are not in us e.
Foreign objects or liquids that enter the power outlet may cause a short
circuit.
● Do not use the power outlet longer than necessary when the engine is not
running.

The USB charging ports are used to supply 2.5 A (Type A) and 3. 0 A
(Type C) of electricity at 5 V t o external devices. The USB cha rging
ports are for charging only. They are not designed for data transfer or
other purposes. Depending on the external device, it may not ch arge
properly. Refer to the manual included with the device before u sing a
USB charging port.
■Using the USB charging ports
Open the console box lid.
■ The USB charging ports can be used when

Vehicles with a smart key system
The engine switch is in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode.
■ Situations in which the USB charg ing ports may not operate correctly
● Type A USB charging port: If a device which consumes more than 2.5 A at 5
V is connected
● Type C USB charging port: If a device which consumes more than 3.0 A at 5
V is connected
● If a device designed to communicate with a personal computer, s uch as a
USB memory device, is connected
● If the connected external device is turned off (depending on de vice)
● If the temperature inside the vehicle is high, such as after the vehicle has
been parked in the sun
■ About connected external devices
Depending on the connected external device, charging may occasi onally be
suspended and then start again. This is not a malfunction.

NOTICE
■To prevent damage to the USB charging ports
● Do not insert foreign objects into the ports.
● Do not spill water or other liquids into the ports.
● When the USB charging ports are not in use, close the lids. If a foreign
object or liquid enters a port may cause a short circuit.
● Do not apply excessive force to or impact the USB charging ports.
● Do not disassemble or modify the USB charging ports.
■ To prevent damage to external devices
● Do not leave external devices in the vehicle. The temperature i nside the
vehicle may become high, resulting in damage to an external device.
● Do not push down on or apply unnecessary force to an external device or
the cable of an external device while it is connected.
■ To prevent battery discharge
● Do not use the USB charging ports for a long period of time with the
engine stopped.

A mobile device can be charg ed wirelessly on the tray.
Vehicles without a smart key system
Charging can only be performed with the engine switch in the
“ACC” or “ON” position and only on mobile devices with the “ ”
logo.
Vehicles with a smart key system
Charging can only be performed with the engine switch in ACCES-
SORY or IGNITION ON mode and only on mobile devices with the
“ ” logo.
Press the wireless charger
switch.
Place a mobile device on the
tray as shown in the illustration.
An amber indicator is illuminated
while charging is in progress.
When charging is complete, a
green indicator will also be illumi-
nated. Some phones, cases or
cover type wireless chargers may
not cause the green indicator to
illuminate even though it is fully
charged.
When placing the mobile device on the wireless charging surface of
the tray, make sure that there a re no objects in-between the mo bile
device and the tray. They may interfere with charging.
