■Multi-terrain Select
Multi-terrain Sel ect controls the
vehicle so that i t can maximize the
drive force and imp rove drivability
on rough roads. As a result, fuel effi-
ciency may diminish when com-
pared to driving in normal mode.
■Automatic system cancelation
In the following situations, Multi-ter-
rain Select will be canceled auto-
matically.
●When the power switch is turned
off
●When the front-wheel drive control
switch is in “2H”
●When “TOW HAUL” mode and
“TOW+” mode is selected while
the front-wheel drive control
switch is in “4H”
●When drive mode select is
selected while the front-wheel
drive control switch is in “4H”
■Turning off Mult i-terrain Select
Performing the following turns Multi-
terrain Select off, and then the dis-
play on the multi-information display
will disappear.
When the “MTS” switch indicator
is illuminated
Press the “MTS” switch while the
system is in operation.
When the “MTS” switch indicator
is not illuminated
Press the “MTS” switch to turn the
indicator on.
Press the “MTS” switch again with
the Multi-terr ain Select indicator illu-
minated.
■When the vehic le is stuck

The following types of situations
may occur, but they are not malfunc-
tions.
●Vibrations may be felt throughout
the vehicle or steering wheel.
●Operating noise may be heard
from the hybrid system compart-
ment.
■When an inspection at your
Toyota dealer is necessary
In the following situ ations, the sys-
tem may be malf unctioning. Have
the vehicle inspected by your Toyota
dealer immediately.
●When the slip indica tor light illumi-
nates.
●When the indicator for each mode
does not illuminate on the multi-
information display even though
Multi-terrain Select is selected.

It is possible that the parking brake is not fully engaged or
released
 Operate the parking br ake switch once again.
This light comes on when t he parking brake is not
released. If the lig ht turns off after the parking brake
is fully released, the syst em is operating normally.

Indicates a malfunction in the rear differential lock system

When the light comes on after b linking for approximately 1
minute:
Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system
 Have the system checked by your Toyota dealer.
When the light comes on:
Low tire inflation pressure such as
 Natural causes
 Flat tire
 Immediately stop the v ehicle in a safe place.

Oil” at the factory.
Use Toyota approved “Toyota Genuine Differential Gear Oil” or an
equivalent oil of matching quality to satisfy the above specifi cation.
Please contact your Toyota dealer for further details.
*1: Minimum pedal clearance when depressed with a force of 110 lbf (490 N,
50 kgf) while the hybrid system is running.
*2: Make sure to confirm that the brake warning light (yellow) doe s not illumi-
nate. (If the brake warning light illuminates, refer to P.501.)
