When driving
VERSO_WE_OM64524E
Eco Driving Indicator Zone Display (if equipped)
When the acceleration exceeds the Zone of Eco driving, the system recog-
nizes that the vehicle is not being driven in Eco-friendly manner. Eco Driv-
ing Indicator Light turns off and the right side of Eco Driving Indicator Zone
Display blinks.
Also, the system will not be operated if the following conditions are met
while driving:
The shift position is anything other than “D”
The driving mode is set to “SPORT” mode
The paddle shift switch is operated while the shift position is “D”
The vehicle speed is approximately 130 km/h (80 mph) or higher
Rear seat belt reminder buzzer (vehicles with rear seat)
The rear seat belts reminder sounds to alert the rear passenger that his/her
seat belt is not fastened. The buzzer sounds for 30 seconds after the vehi-
cle has reached a speed of at least 20 km/h (12 mph). Then, if the seat belt
is still unfastened, the buzzer will sound in a different tone for 90 more sec-
onds.
Eco Driving Indicator indicates the range
where acceleration is Eco-friendly, “Zone
of Eco driving” and Eco driving ratio
based on acceleration.

Outside temperature display
In the following situations, the correct outside temperature may not be
displayed, or the display may take longer than normal to change.
• When stopped, or driving at low speeds (less than 20 km/h [12 mph])
• When the outside temperature has changed suddenly (at the entrance/
exit of a garage, tunnel, etc.)
When “--” is displayed, the system may be malfunctioning.
Take your vehicle to any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped professional.

Small spots or light spots may appear on the display. This phenomenon is
characteristic of liquid crystal displays, and there is no problem to continue
using the display.
Customization that can be configured at any authorized Toyota dealer
or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional
Settings (e.g. rear seat belt reminder buzzer) can be changed.
(Customizable featuresP. 569)
NOTICE

CAUTION
Storage precautions
Observe the following precautions.
Failing to do so may result in death or serious injury.
Do not stack anything in the luggage compartment higher than the seat-
backs.
Such items may be thrown about and possibly injure people in the vehicle
in the event of sudden braking or in an accident.
Do not place cargo or luggage in or on the following locations as the items
may get under the clutch, brake or accelerator pedal and prevent the ped-
als from being depressed properly, block the driver’s vision, or hit the
driver or passengers, causing an accident.
• At the feet of the driver
• On the front passenger or rear seats (when stacking items)
• On the luggage cover
• On the instrument panel
• On the dashboard
Secure all items in the occupant compartment, as they may shift and injure
someone during sudden braking, sudden swerving or an accident.
Never allow anyone to ride in the luggage compartment. It is not designed
for passengers. They should ride in their seats with their seat belts prop-
erly fastened. Otherwise, they are much more likely to suffer death or seri-
ous bodily injury, in the event of sudden braking, sudden swerving or an
accident.
Load and distribution
Do not overload your vehicle.
Do not apply loads unevenly.
Improper loading may cause deterioration of steering or braking control
which may cause death or serious injury.

Caring for leather areas
Toyota recommends cleaning the interior of the vehicle at least twice a year
to maintain the quality of the vehicle’s interior.
Shampooing the carpets
There are several commercial foaming-type cleaners available. Use a
sponge or brush to apply the foam. Rub in overlapping circles. Do not apply
water. Excellent results are obtained by keeping the carpet as dry as possi-
ble.
Seat belts
Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also
check the belts periodically for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.
CAUTION
Water in the vehicle
Do not splash or spill liquid in the vehicle. Doing so may cause electrical
components etc. to malfunction or catch fire.
Do not get any of the SRS components or wiring in the vehicle interior wet.
(P. 134)
Electrical malfunction may cause the airbags to deploy or not function
properly, resulting in death or severe injury.
Cleaning the interior (especially instrument panel)
Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel may reflect off
the windshield, obstructing the driver’s view and leading to an accident,
resulting in death or serious injury.

CAUTION
The engine compartment contains many mechanisms and fluids that may
move suddenly, become hot, or become electrically energized. To avoid death
or serious injury, observe the following precautions.
When working on the engine compartment
Keep hands, clothing, and tools away from the moving fan and engine
drive belt.
Be careful not to touch the engine, radiator, exhaust manifold, etc. right
after driving as they may be hot. Oil and other fluids may also be hot.
Do not leave anything that may burn easily, such as paper or rags, in the
engine compartment.
Do not smoke, cause sparks or expose an open flame to fuel or the bat-
tery. Fuel and battery fumes are flammable.
Be extremely cautious when working on the battery. It contains poisonous
and corrosive sulphuric acid.
Take care because brake fluid can harm your hands or eyes and damage
painted surfaces.
If fluid gets on your hands or in your eyes, flush the affected area with
clean water immediately.
If you still experience discomfort, see a doctor.
When working near the electric cooling fan or radiator grille
Vehicles without smart entry & start system: Be sure the engine switch is
in the “LOCK” position.
With the engine switch in the “ON” position, the electric cooling fan may
automatically start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or the coolant
temperature is high. (P. 415)
Vehicles with smart entry & start system: Be sure the “ENGINE START
STOP” switch is OFF.
With the “ENGINE START STOP” switch in IGNITION ON mode, the elec-
tric cooling fan may automatically start to run if the air conditioning is on
and/or the coolant temperature is high. (P. 415)
Safety glasses
Wear safety glasses to prevent flying or falling material, fluid spray, etc. from
getting in the eyes.

When to replace your vehicle’s tires
Tires should be replaced if:
You have tire damage such as cuts, splits, cracks deep enough to
expose the fabric or bulges indicating internal damage
A tire goes flat repeatedly or cannot be properly repaired due to the size
or location of a cut or other damage
If you are not sure, consult with any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or
another duly qualified and equipped professional.
Tire life
Any tires over 6 years old must be checked by a qualified technician even if
they have seldom or never been used or damage is not obvious.
If the tread depth wears down to 4 mm (0.16 in.) or more on snow tires
The effectiveness of snow tires is lost.
CAUTION
When inspecting or replacing tires
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents.
Failure to do so may cause damage to parts of the drive train, as well as
dangerous handling characteristics, which may lead to an accident resulting
in death or serious injury.
Do not mix tires of different makes, models or tread patterns.
Also, do not mix tires of remarkably different treadwear.
Do not use tire sizes other than those recommended by Toyota.
Do not mix differently constructed tires
(radial, bias-belted or bias-ply tires).
Do not mix summer, all season and winter tires.
Do not use tires that have been used on another vehicle.
Do not use tires if you do not know how they were used previously.

When trouble arises
VERSO_WE_OM64524E
NOTICE
To prevent damaging the vehicle (vehicles with a manual transmission)
Do not pull- or push-start the vehicle, because the catalytic converter may
overheat and become a fire hazard.
When handling jumper cables
Be careful that the jumper cables do not become tangled in the cooling fan
or any of the belts when connecting or disconnecting them.
