Use a CR2016 (vehicles without a smart entry & start system or a push-
button start system) or CR2032 (vehicles with a smart entry & start sys-
tem or a push-button start system) lithium battery
Batteries can be purchased at any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer,
or another duly qualified and equipped professional, local electrical appli-
ance shops or camera stores.
Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the
manufacturer.
Dispose of used batteries according to local laws.
If the key battery is depleted
The following symptoms may occur:
The smart entry & start system (if equipped), push-button start system (if
equipped) and wireless remote control will not function properly.
The operational range will be reduced.
Remove the battery cover.
Remove the depleted battery.
Insert a new battery with the
“+” terminal facing up.

CAUTION
Removed battery and other parts
Keep away from children. These parts are small and if swallowed by a child,
they can cause choking. Failure to do so could result in death or serious
injury.
Certification for the lithium battery

TYPE. DISPOSE OF USED BATTERIES ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUC-
TIONS
NOTICE
For normal operation after replacing the battery
Observe the following precautions to prevent accidents:
Always work with dry hands.
Moisture may cause the battery to rust.
Do not touch or move any other component inside the remote control.
Do not bend either of the battery terminals.

Engine compartment (type B fuse box):
Push the tab in and lift the lid
off.
Engine compartment (type C fuse box for the left-hand drive vehi-
cles):
Pull the rubber strip on the
edge to unhook it from the
cover, and then push the
tabs in and lift the cover off.
Remove the battery termi-
nal cover and then the fuse
box cover.

Emergency flashers
Emergency flashers
Except hybrid vehicle: If the emergency flashers are used for a long time
while the engine is not operating, the battery may discharge.
Hybrid vehicle: If the emergency flashers are used for a long time while
the hybrid system is not operating (while the “READY” indicator is not illu-
minated), the 12-volt battery may discharge.
The emergency flashers are used to warn other drivers when the
vehicle has to be stopped in the road due to a breakdown, etc.
Press the switch.
All the turn signal lights will
flash. To turn them off, press
the switch once again.

Indicates a malfunction in:
• The ABS; or
• The brake assist system.
Electric power steering warning light (warning buzzer)
Indicates a malfunction in the EPS system.

• The VSC system;
• The TRC system; or
• Hill-start assist control.
