Wireless remote control

The wireless remote control can be used to lock and unlock the vehi-
cle.
Vehicles without a smart entry & start system or a push-but-

Operation signals
The emergency flashers flash to indicate that the doors have been locked/
unlocked. (Locked: once; Unlocked: twice)
Door lock buzzer (vehicles with a smart entry & start system or a push-
button start system)
If an attempt to lock the doors is made when a door is not fully closed, a
buzzer sounds continuously. Fully close the door to stop the buzzer, and lock
the vehicle once more.
Security feature
If a door is not opened within approximately 30 seconds after the vehicle is
unlocked, the security feature automatically locks the vehicle again.
Conditions affecting operation
Vehicles without a smart entry & start system or a push-button start
system
The wireless remote control function may not operate normally in the follow-
ing situations:
When the wireless key battery is depleted
Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas station, radio station, large dis-
play, airport or other facility that generates strong radio waves or electri-
cal noise
When carrying a portable radio, cellular phone or other wireless commu-
nication devices
Vehicles with a push-button start system
Locks all the doors
Unlocks all the doors

When the wireless key is in contact with, or is covered by a metallic
object
When other wireless key (that emit radio waves) is being used nearby
If window tint with a metallic content or metallic objects are attached to

If the wireless remote control does not operate properly (vehicles with

If the wireless remote control function does not operate, the battery may be

Confirmation of the registered key number (vehicles with a smart entry

The number of keys already registered to the vehicle can be confirmed. Ask

Side doors

Rear door child-protector lock (5-door models only)
The door cannot be opened from
inside the vehicle when the lock
is set.

Impact detection door lock release system
In the event that the vehicle is subject to a strong impact, all the doors are
unlocked. Depending on the force of the impact or the type of accident, how-
ever, the system may not operate.
Using the mechanical key (vehicles with a smart entry & start system
or a push-button start system)
The doors can also be locked and unlocked with the mechanical key.

The key cylinder rotates freely to isolate inside mechanism.

Back door
The back door can be locked/unlocked and opened by the following
procedures.

Lower the back door using the

sure to push the back door down
from the outside to close it.

setting (vehicles with a smart entry & start system)

The luggage compartment light turns on
when the back door is opened.

Double locking system
Setting the double locking system
Except hybrid vehicle (vehicles without a smart entry & start system):
Turn the engine switch off, have all the passengers exit the vehicle
and ensure that all the doors are closed.
Except hybrid vehicle (vehicles with a smart entry & start system):
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch off, have all the passengers
exit the vehicle and ensure that all the doors are closed.
Hybrid vehicle (vehicles without an electronic key):
Turn the engine switch off, have all the passengers exit the vehicle
and ensure that all the doors are closed.
Hybrid vehicle (vehicles with an electronic key):
Turn the “POWER” switch off, have all the passengers exit the vehi-
cle and ensure that all the doors are closed.
Using the entry function (vehicles with a smart entry & start system):
Touch the sensor area on the outside door handle twice within 5 sec-
onds.
Using the wireless remote control:
Press twice within 5 seconds.
: If equipped
Unauthorized access to the vehicle is prevented by disabling the
door unlocking function from both the interior and exterior of the
vehicle.
Vehicles employing this sys-
tem have labels on the win-
dow glass of both front doors.

Canceling the double locking system
Using the entry function (vehicles with a smart entry & start system):
Hold either front outside door handle or push up the back door
opener switch.
Using the wireless remote control: Press .
CAUTION
Double locking system precaution
Never activate the double locking system when there are people in the vehi-
cle because all the doors cannot be opened from inside the vehicle.
