Fuel-Filler Lid and Cap
WARNING
■When removing the fuel-filler cap, l oosen the cap slightly and wait for
any hissing to stop, then remove it
Fuel spray is dangerous. Fuel can burn skin and eyes and cause illness if
ingested. Fuel spray is released when there is pressure in the fuel tank and
the fuel-filler cap is removed too quickly.
■ Before refueling, stop the engi ne, and always keep sparks and flames
away from the filler neck
Fuel vapor is dangerous. It could be ignited by sparks or flames causing
serious burns and injuries.
Additionally, use of the incorrect fuel-fil ler cap or not using a fuel-filler cap
may result in a fuel leak, which could result in serious burns or death in an
accident.
■ Do not continue refueling after the fuel pump nozzle shuts off automat-
ically
Continuing to add fuel after the fuel pump nozzle has shut off automatically
is dangerous because overfilling the fuel tank may cause fuel overflow or
leakage. Fuel overflow and leakage could damage the vehicle and if the fuel
ignites it could cause a fire and explosion resulting in serious injury or
death.
NOTICE
Always use only a genuine Toyota fuel-filler cap or an approved equivalent,
available at your Toyota dealer. The wrong cap can result in a serious mal-
function of the fuel and emission control systems. It may also cause the
check engine light in the combination meter to illuminate.

To open, pull the remote fuel-filler
lid release.
To close, press the fuel-filler lid
until it locks securely.Open

NOTICE
If the check fuel cap warning light illuminates, the fuel-filler cap may not be
properly installed. If the warning light illuminates, park your vehicle safely off
the right-of-way, remove the fuel-filler cap and reinstall it correctly. After the
cap has been correctly installed, the fuel cap warning light may continue to
illuminate until a number of driving cycles have been completed. A drive
cycle consists of starting the engine (after four or more hours with the
engine off) and driving the vehicle on city and highway roads.
Continuing to drive with the check fuel cap warning light illuminated could
cause the check engine light to illuminate as well.

When Driving
These lights turn on or flash to notify the user of the system operation
status or a system malfunction.
*1: The light turns on when the ignition is switched on for an operation chec\
k, and turns off a few seconds later or when the engine is started. If the light
does not turn on or remains turned on, have the vehicle inspected at your
Toyota dealer.

●Always check tire pressure when tires are cold.
●Warm tires normally exceed recommended pressures. Do not release
air from warm tires to adjust the pressure.
●Underinflation can cause reduced fuel economy, uneven and acceler-
ated tire wear, and poor sealing of the tire bead, which will deform the
wheel and cause separation of tire from rim.
●Overinflation can produce a harsh ride, uneven and accelerated tire
wear, and a greater po ssibility of damage from road hazards.
Keep your tire pressure at the correct levels. If one frequently needs
inflating, have it inspected.
During rotation, inspect them for
correct balance.

■Always inflate the tires to the correct pressure
Overinflation or underinflation of tires is dangerous. Adverse handling or
unexpected tire failure could re sult in a serious accident.

■Use only a Toyota-genuine tire valve cap
Use of a non-genuine part is danger ous as the correct tire air pressure
cannot be maintained if the tire valv e becomes damaged. If the vehicle
is driven under this c ondition, the tire air pr essure will decrease which
could result in a serious accident. Do not use any part for the tire valve
cap that is not a Toyota-genuine part.

If Trouble Arises
If any of the following warning lights turns on/flashes, the system may
have a malfunction. Contact your Toyota dealer to have your vehicle
inspected.

Master Warning Light
Vehicles with type B audio
The light turns on when the system has a malfunction.
Operate the center display and verify the content.

Vehicles without type B audio
The light illuminates continuously if any one of the follow-
ing occurs. Consult your Toyota dealer.
• There is a malfunction in the battery management sys- tem.
• There is a malfunction in the brake switch.
ABS Warning Light If the ABS warning light stays on while you’re driving, the
ABS control unit has detected a system malfunction. If this
occurs, your brakes will function normally as if the vehicle
had no ABS.
Should this happen, consult your Toyota dealer as soon as
possible.
Check Engine LightIf this light illuminates while driving, the vehicle may have
a problem. It is important to note the driving conditions
when the light illuminated and consult your Toyota dealer.
The check engine light may illuminate in the following
cases:
• The fuel tank level being very low or approaching empty.
• The engine’s electrical system has a problem.
• The emission control system has a problem.
• The fuel-filler cap is missing or not tightened securely.
If the check engine light remains on, or it flashes continu-
ously, do not drive at high speeds and consult your Toyota
dealer as soon as possible.

Seat Belt Warning LightThe seat belt warning light

passenger’s seat is occupied
and the seat belt is not fas-
tened with the ignition
switched ON.
If the driver or front passen-
ger’s seat belt is unfastened
(only when the front passen-
ger’s seat is occupied) and
the vehicle is driven at a
speed faster than about 12
mph (20 km/h), the warning
light flashes. After a short
time, the warning light stops
flashing, but remains illumi-
nated.

Vehicle Loading
This section will guide you in the proper loading of your vehicle, to
keep your loaded vehicle weight with in its design rating capability.
Properly loading your vehicle will provide maximum return of vehicle
design performance. Before loading your vehicle, familiarize yourself
with the following terms for determining your vehicle’s weight ratings,
from the vehicle’s Safety Certific ation Label and Tire and Load Infor-
mation Label:
Base Curb Weight is the weight of the vehicle including a full tank of
fuel and all standard equipment. It does not include passengers,
cargo, or optional equipment.
Vehicle Curb Weight is the weight of your new vehicle when you
picked it up from your dealer plus any aftermarket equipment.
Payload is the combination weight of cargo and passengers that the
vehicle is designed to carry. The maximum payload for your vehicle
can be found on the Tire and Load Information label on the driver’s
door frame or door pillar. Look for “THE COMBINATION WEIGHT OF
OCCUPANTS AND CARGO SHOULD NEVER EXCEED XXX kg or
XXX lb.” for your maximum payload. The payload listed on the tire
label is the maximum payload for t he vehicle as built by the assembly
plant. If any aftermarket or de aler installed equipment has been
installed on the vehicle, the weig ht of the equipment must be sub-
tracted from the payload listed on the tire label in order to be accurate.
