Electronic Stabilization Program {ESP) I Anti-slip regulation ASR
This warning light monitors the Elect ronic Stabil iza tion or th e Anti-slip
regulation.
The warnin g light has the follow ing functi ons:
• It light s up when the ignition i s switched on
and sh ou ld turn off aga in afte r about 2 seconds.
• It flashes whe n the ESP/ASR is activa ted
w hen dri ving.
• It will li gh t up cont inuou sly if th ere is a ma l
f un ction in th e ESP/ASR.
• It
will ligh t up continuou sly if th e ESP/ASR is
sw itch ed off =:pag e 91. •
It w ill also light up if a fa ult sh o uld occur in
the ABS because th e ESP/AS R operates in con
jun cti on w ith the AJ3S.
If th e warning ligh t light s up and stays on a fter
th e e ngin e is
thi s may mean that th e
c ontro l sys tem has tem porarily switch ed o ff the
fu ncti on . In thi s case the ESP/ASH ca n be reac ti
vated by sw itchin g th e ig niti on off and then on
again. If the wa rnin g lig ht goes out, thi s m ea ns
t he sys tem is fully functiona l.
Brake system I Parking brake or BRAKE
The warnin g light lights up if the parking brake is applied, if the brake level
is too low or if there is a malfunction in the brake system .
This warning light or BRAK E lights up if
• the park ing brake is o n
If yo u dri ve faster than 3 mph (5 km /h } w ith the
parking brake on, the follo win g m essage will ap
pear in the in strum ent cluster di spl ay :
Handbrake on!. An ac oustic wa rnin g is a lso
give n.

• If the ABS warn ing light does not go out o r
if it come s on whil e driving , th e AB S sys te m i s
not working properly. The vehicle can then be
s topped onl y with stand ard brake s (w ithout

Description of Electronic Parking Assistance
The Electronic Parking Assistance is a parking aid, which draws to
obstacles.
The electro nic parking a ssistanc e he lps th e
dr iver when parking the ve hicle. Th e driv er is
fo rm ed or warned by audibl e signals that hide is approac hing behind ve·
hide. The clo ser yo ur vehicle approach es
obstacle, quicker aud ible sig nal s w ill
so und. Th e audib le s ig nal will sound continu ·
o usly if lh e obs tacle i s very near.
It uses ultrasonic senso rs in rea r bumpers to
measure distanc e lo obstacle s.
Th e se nso rs ar e
lrans miller s and rece ive rs
o f ult rasoun d waves. The e lec tronic syste m s
uses ultra sou nd waves (i.e. transm iss ion, r e·
fl ec lion from th e obstacle a nd rece ption) to
th e di stance th e vehicle and obstacle .
O nc e yo ur vehicl e is very close lo
obstacle, will no longer be det.ec tccl and you
co uld cau se damage lo vehicl e. Always pay
close attention lo audibl e signals lo help you
park your vehicl e.

v idin g ass istance has the same vo ltage as the
discharged battery (12V) and approximately
the same ca pacity (see battery label).
• Neve r jump start a ve hicle with

batt ery. 1r a battery is or has been frozen, re
pla ce it.
• Batteries giv e
explosive hydrogen gas.
A lways keep sparks, open flame and
smoking materials away from batteri es.
• Never short out the battery pole s by con
necting the positive
and nega tive po les
with eac h other .
• Always follow the jumper cab les ' manufac
turer's instruct ions.
• Never co nn ect the negati ve cab le from the
other vehicle directly to the negat ive terminal
or the discharged battery. The hydrogen gas
rrom the battery is exp losive.

ve hicl e providing starting assistance to parts
of the fuel syst em or to the brake hoses o r
brake lines.
• Never a llow the non -in sula ted parts of th e
batt ery clamps to touch. Never allow the
jumpe r cab le a ttached to the positive battery
t ermina l to contac t metal parts of the vehicle.
• Alw ays route the jumper cables so that
th ey can not ge t tangled up with moving parts
in th e engi ne c ompartment.
