Change of ownership
When the vehicle changes owners, all personal settings should be reset to the factory defaults.
To reset, press the MY CAR button in the center
console followed by OK/MENU and select
SettingsReset to factory settings.
User data e.g., for apps, the web browser and for personal settings in menus such as the climatesystem and vehicle settings should be reset tofactory defaults. For vehicles equipped with the optional Volvo On Call with Sensus Connect (VOC), personal set-tings stored in the vehicle should be deleted, seeChanging ownership of a vehicle with Volvo OnCall.

Crash event data
This vehicle is equipped with an event data recorder (EDR). The main purpose of an EDR isto record, in certain crash or near crash-like sit-uations, such as an air bag deployment or hittinga road obstacle, data that will assist in under-standing how a vehicle's systems performed.The EDR is designed to record data related tovehicle dynamics and safety systems for a shortperiod of time, typically 30 seconds or less. TheEDR in this vehicle is designed to record suchdata as:
• How various systems in your vehicle were operating;
• Whether or not the driver and passengersafety belts were buckled/fastened;
• How far (if at all) the driver was depressingthe accelerator and/or brake pedal; and,
• How fast the vehicle was traveling.
These data can help provide a better understand-ing of the circumstances in which crashes andinjuries occur. EDR data are recorded by your vehicle only if a non-trivial crash situation occurs; no data arerecorded by the EDR under normal driving condi-tions and the EDR never registers who is drivingthe vehicle or the location of a crash or a nearcrash-like situation. However, other parties, suchas law enforcement, could combine the EDR datawith the type of personally identifying data rou-

Heated windshield *, rear window
and door mirror defrosters
The heating function is used to defrost/de-ice the windshield and/or the rear window and doormirrors.
Heated windshield
Heated rear window and door mirrors
Press button (1) to defrost/de-ice the windshield and/or button (2) to defrost the rear window anddoor mirrors. The indicator lights in the respectivebuttons indicate that the function is active. Switchthe function off when then windshield/rear win-dow/mirrors have cleared to help avoid batterydrain. The heating function will also switch offautomatically after a certain amount of time. The rear window is then defogged/de-iced (the function will switch on and off automatically until the ignition is switched off) if the ambient tem-perature remains below 45 °F (7 °C). Auto-defrosting for the rear window and door mirrors (if the vehicle is started when the ambienttemperature is below 45 °F (7 °C) can be selected in MY CAR under

If the Engine Remote Start (ERS) * function is
used, the electrically heated windshield function will be activated automatically at temperaturesbelow approx. 40 °F (+5 °C) if auto-defrostinghas been selected in the MY CAR menu. See My Car – introduction (p. 71) for a descrip- tion of the menu system.
Interior rearview mirror The interior rearview mirror has an auto-dim function that helps reduce glare from followingvehicle's headlights.

The controls on the left steering wheel lever are used to access the menus (p. 109) that are dis-played in the instrument panel (p. 63). Themenus displayed depend on the current ignitionmode (p. 74).

Climate – general information
The vehicle is equipped with Electronic Climate
Control (ECC) (p. 125) that cools, heats or dehumidifies the air in the passenger compart-ment.
Air conditioning
NOTE
• The air conditioning can be switched off, but to ensure the best possible climatecomfort in the passenger compartmentand to prevent the windows from misting,it should always be on.
• In warm weather, a small amount of watermay accumulate under the car when ithas been parked. This water is condensa-tion from the A/C system and is normal.
Side windows and moonroofTo ensure that the air conditioning works opti- mally, the side windows, and the optional moon-roof should be closed.
Fog on the inside of the windowsThe defroster function (p. 128) should be usedto remove fog or mist from the inside of the win-dows. Keeping the windows clean with a com-mercially available window washing spray will alsohelp prevent fogging or misting.
Vents in the parcel shelf
NOTE
The air vents at the rear of the parcel shelf should never be obstructed.
Temporary shut-off of the air conditioning
The air conditioning (p. 128) is momentarily dis- engaged during full acceleration or when drivinguphill with a trailer. This may result in a temporaryincrease in cabin temperature.
Ice and snowAlways keep the air intake grille at the base ofthe windshield free of snow.
Climate system maintenanceSpecial tools and equipment are required tomaintain and carry out repairs on the climate sys-tem. Work of this type should only be done by atrained and qualified Volvo service technician.
RefrigerantVolvo cares about the environment. The air condi-tioning system in your car contains a CFC-freerefrigerant – R134a. This substance will notdeplete the ozone layer. The air conditioning sys-tem contains 1.76 lbs (800 g) of R134a. Thesystems uses PAG oil.

Materials used in the cabinThe materials used in the cabin have been devel- oped to help minimize the amount of dust andmake the cabin easier to keep clean. All floormats can be easily removed for cleaning. Use carcleaning products recommended by Volvo. Seealso the information in Cleaning the interior(p. 363).

Interior Air Quality System (IAQS)
*
The Air Quality System (IAQS) consists of a mul- tifilter and an air quality sensor. The filter helpsremove gases and particles from the incomingair, thereby reducing the amounts of odors andcontaminants entering the vehicle.
The air quality (p. 121) sensor detects increased levels of contaminants in the outside air. Whenthe air quality sensor detects contaminated out-side air, the air intake closes and the air insidethe passenger compartment is recirculated, i.e.,no outside air enters the vehicle. The filter alsocleans recirculated passenger compartment air. When the AUTO (p. 127) button is depressed
the air quality sensor is always engaged. Activate or deactivate this function in

NOTE
• The air quality sensor should always be engaged in order to obtain the best air inthe passenger compartment.
• Recirculation is limited in cold weather toavoid fogging.

Climate – menu settings
The default settings for four of the climate sys-
tem's (p. 120) functions can be changed in themenu system.
• Blower speed (p. 127) in automatic mode (p. 127).
• Recirculation timer (p. 130) for passengercompartment air.
• Automatic rear window defrosting (p. 100).
• The optional Interior Air Quality Sys-tem (p. 122) (IAQS).
The functions can also be returned to factory set-tings in the menu system. See My Car – introduction (p. 71) for a descrip- tion of the menu system.

Air distribution – general
The incoming air is distributed through a number of different vents in the passenger compartment.
Air distribution is fully automatic in AUTO
mode (p. 127). If desired, air distribution can be controlled man- ually, see Air distribution – function (p. 129).

Heated seats
The front seat heating has three levels to increase comfort for the driver and passenger incold weather. The rear outboard seat heating has three levels to increase comfort for the passengers in coldweather.
Heated front seats *
The current seat temperature setting is shown in the center console display
Press the lower section of the button repeatedly until thedesired number of indicatorlights illuminate: Highest heat level – three indi- cator lights.
Medium heat level – two indicator lights.
Lowest heat level – one indicator light. If no indicator lights are illuminated, the seat heating is switched off. Seat heating will automatically switch off when the engine is switched off.
Starting the seat heating automatically
This setting starts heating the driver's seat (at the highest level) automatically when the engine isstarted if the ambient temperature is belowapprox. 50° F (10° C). Activate/deactivate this function in the MY CAR
menu system, under

Heated rear seats *
Heat control for the outboard seating positions is done in the same way as for the front seats.

Temperature and blower control
When the vehicle is started, the most recent set- ting is resumed. The blower should always be activated to help avoid condensation and fogging on the win-dows.
Temperature controlThe temperatures on the driver and passenger sides can beset separately.
NOTE
Heating or cooling cannot be speeded up by selecting a higher/lower temperature thanthe actual temperature required.
Blower controlTurn the control clockwise to increase or counterclockwise todecrease the blower speed. If AUTO (p. 127) is selected,
blower speed will be regulated automatically and this will over-ride manual adjustment.
NOTE
If the blower is turned off completely, the air conditioning is disengaged, which may resultin fogging on the windows.

Automatic climate control The Auto function automatically controls tem- perature (p. 127), air conditioning (p. 128),blower speed (p. 127), recirculation (p. 130)and air distribution (p. 123).
If you select one or more man- ual functions, the other func-tions continue to be controlledautomatically. The air qual-ity (p. 121) sensor is engagedand all manual settings are switched off when
AUTO is
pressed. The display shows

Blower speed in automatic mode can be set under

adjustment. Choose between Low, Normal orHigh.
NOTE
Selecting the lowest blower speed may increases the risk of fog forming on the win-dows.

Air conditioning
The air conditioning function cools and dehu- midifies the air in the passenger compartment.
When the indicator light in the button is on, the air condition-ing is controlled automatically.This cools/heats and dehu-midifies the incoming air. Whenthe indicator light in the buttonis off, the air conditioning is
disengaged. Other functions are still controlledautomatically. When maximum defroster (p. 128)is selected, the air conditioning system is set formaximum blower speed and dehumidifies thecabin as quickly as possible.

Max. defroster and electrically heated windshield

The heated windshield and max. defroster func- tions are used to clear the windshield and frontside windows of condensation and ice asquickly as possible.

• Press the button once to start defrosting/de- icing the windshield and front side windows.The indicator light (2) in the defroster buttonilluminates when the function is active.

Models with an electrically heated windshield *
• If this feature is switched off, press the but- ton once to start heating the windshield 1
.
Symbol (1) will illuminate in the center con- sole display.
• Press the button twice to start both thedefroster and the windshield heating. Sym-bols (1) and (2) will illuminate in the centerconsole display.
• If these features are on, press the button toswitch them off. The symbols will no longerbe displayed.
