Driving through standing water
It may be necessary to drive the vehicle throughstanding water, e.g. deep puddles or flooding onthe road. This must be done with great caution.
To help prevent damage to the vehicle when driv-ing through water:
Do not drive in water higher than the floor ofthe vehicle. If possible, check the depth ofthe water at its deepest point before drivingthrough it. Be particularly careful when driv-ing through flowing water.
Do not drive faster than walking speed.
Do not stop the vehicle in the water. Drivecarefully forward or back the vehicle out ofthe water.
Remember that waves created by passingvehicles could cause the water level to riseabove the vehicle's floor level.
Avoid driving through salt water to help avoidthe risk of corrosion.

CAUTION
Parts of the vehicle (e.g. engine, transmission,driveline, electrical components, etc.) can bedamaged if the vehicle is driven through waterhigher than its floor level. Damage to anycomponents caused by flooding, vapor lock orinsufficient oil is not covered under warranty.
If the engine stalls while the vehicle is inwater, do not attempt to restart it. Have thevehicle towed on the bed of a tow truck to aworkshop - an authorized Volvo workshop isrecommended.

CAUTION
Because it can be difficult to determine thewater depth, avoid driving through standing orrunning water.
When you have passed the water, press lightly onthe brake pedal and check that the brakes arefunctioning properly. Water, mud, slush, etc. canmake the brake linings slippery, resulting indelayed braking effect.
If the vehicle is equipped with a trailer couplingcontact, clean the contact after driving in water ormud.

Opening/closing the fuel filler door
A button on the instrument panel is used tounlock the fuel filler door.
An arrow next to the fuel pumpsymbol in the instrument panelindicates the side of the vehicleon which the fuel filler door islocated.

Instructions for fueling:
1. Turn off the engine and open the fuel fillerdoor.

NOTE
Refueling must be done within approximately15 minutes of opening the fuel filler door.After this time, the valve opened by pushingthe button for opening the fuel filler door willclose and it will no longer be possible torefuel without the pump's nozzle switching off.
If the valve is closed before refueling is com-plete - press the button again and wait untilthe driver display shows the message Fueltank Ready for refueling.
2. Select a fuel approved for use in the vehicle.For more information on approved fuels, seethe section on “Fuel”.
3.Insert the pump's nozzle into the fuel fillerpipe's opening. There are two flaps justinside the fuel filler pipe and the pump's noz-zle must push both of these flaps openbefore fuel can be added.
4. Avoid overfilling the tank. Do not press thehandle on the filler nozzle again after it hasinitially stopped pumping.
> The fuel tank is now filled.

NOTE
An over-full tank may overflow in hot weather.

CAUTION
Avoid spilling gasoline during refueling. Inaddition to causing damage to the environ-ment, gasolines containing alcohol can causedamage to painted surfaces, which may notbe covered under the New Vehicle LimitedWarranty.

Refueling from a fuel container
When filling from a fuel container, use the funnelprovided in a foam block under the floor hatch inthe cargo compartment.
1. Open the fuel filler door.
2. Insert the funnel into the fuel filler pipe'sopening. There are two flaps just inside thefuel filler pipe and the tube section of thefunnel must push both of these flaps openbefore fuel can be added.

Follow these instructions to program
HomeLink®, reset all programming, or programindividual buttons.

NOTE
In some vehicles, the ignition must be on or in
the "accessory position" before HomeLink®
can be programmed or used. It can be a goodidea to put new batteries in the remote con-
trol being replaced by HomeLink® for fasterprogramming and better radio signal trans-
mission. The HomeLink® buttons should bereset before programming.

WARNING
While HomeLink® is being programmed, thegarage door or gate being programmed maybe activated. Make sure that no one is nearthe door or gate during programming. Whenprogramming a garage door opener, it isadvised to park outside of the garage.
1.Point the remote control at the HomeLink®
button to be programmed and hold it about2-8 cm (1-3 inches) from the button. Do not
obstruct the HomeLink® indicator light.
Note: Some remote controls are more effec-
tive at programming HomeLink® from a dis-tance of about 15-20 cm (6-12 inches).Keep this in mind if you experience any pro-gramming difficulties.
2.Press and hold both the remote control but-
ton and the HomeLink® button to be pro-grammed.
3. Do not release the buttons until the indicatorlight has stopped flashing slowly (about oncea second) and either flashes quickly (about10 times a second) or glows steadily.
>If the indicator light glows steadily:Indication that programming is complete.Press the programmed button twice toactivate.
If the indicator light flashes quickly:The device being programmed with
HomeLink® may have a security functionthat requires an extra step. Try pressingthe programmed button twice to seewhether the programming works. Other-wise, continue with the following steps.
4. Locate the "training" button17 on thereceiver for the e.g. garage door opener. It isusually located near the antenna bracket onthe receiver.
5.Press and release the "training" button once.Programming must be completed within 30seconds after pressing the button.
6.Press and release the HomeLink® button tobe programmed. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence a second time. For somereceivers, the sequence may need to berepeated a third time.
> Programming is now completed and thegarage door, gate, etc. should now beactivated when the programmed button ispressed.

Programming individual buttons
To program an individual HomeLink® button:
1. Press and hold the desired button for about20 seconds.
2.When the indicator light on HomeLink®
starts flashing slowly, it is possible to pro-gram as usual.
Note: If the button you are reprogrammingdoes not program with a new device, it willreturn to the previously saved programming.

Resetting the HomeLink ®
buttons
It is only possible to reset all HomeLink® buttonsat once. It is not possible to reset individual but-tons. Individual buttons can only be reprogram-med.
–Press and hold the outer buttons (1 and 3)
on HomeLink® for about 10 seconds.
>When the indicator light goes from asteady glow to flashing, the buttons havebeen reset and are ready for reprogram-ming.

Once HomeLink® is programmed, it can beused instead of the separate remote controls.
Press and hold the programming button. Thegarage door, gate, alarm system, etc. will be acti-vated (this may take several seconds). If the but-ton is held down for more than 20 seconds,reprogramming will begin. The indicator light willglow steadily or flash when the button has beenpressed. The original remote controls may be
used concurrently with HomeLink® if desired.
NOTE
When the ignition is switched off, HomeLink®
will be active for at least 7 minutes.

NOTE
HomeLink® cannot be used if the vehicle islocked and the alarm is armed* from the out-side.
WARNING
If you use HomeLink® to open a garagedoor or gate, be sure no one is near thegate or door while it is in motion.
Do not use HomeLink® with any garagedoor opener that lacks safety stop andreverse features as required by US fed-eral safety standards (this includes anygarage door opener model manufacturedbefore April 1, 1982). A garage door thatcannot detect an object - signaling thedoor to stop and reverse - does not meetcurrent U.S. federal safety standards. Formore information, contact HomeLink at:www.homelink.com.

Activating and deactivating the
compass*
An integrated compass22 in the upper right cor-ner of the rearview mirror shows the directionthe vehicle is traveling.

Activating and deactivating the
compass
The compass is automatically activated when thevehicle is started.
To deactivate/activate the compass manually:
–Use a paper clip or similar object to press thebutton on the bottom of the mirror.

Calibrating the compass*
The globe is divided into 15 magnetic zones.
The compass23 should be calibrated if the vehi-cle is driven from one zone to another.
To calibrate the compass:
1.Stop the vehicle in a large, open area awayfrom steel constructions and high-voltagepower lines.
2. Start the engine and switch off all electricalequipment (climate system, wipers, etc.) andmake sure all doors are closed.
NOTE
Calibration may fail or not even be initiated ifelectrical equipment is not turned off.
3. Hold the button on the bottom of the rear-view mirror pressed for about 3 seconds(using e.g. a paper clip). The number of thecurrent magnetic zone is shown.

4. Press the button on the underside of themirror repeatedly until the desired magneticzone (1–15) appears (see the map of mag-netic zones).
5.Wait until the display again shows C, orpress and hold the button on the undersideof the rearview mirror for approx. 6 secondsuntil C is displayed.
6.Drive slowly in a circle at a speed of no morethan 10 km/h (6 mph) until a compass direc-tion is shown in the display. This indicatesthat calibration is complete. Drive in a circletwo more times to fine-tune the calibration.
