ECO Climate
In Pure mode, ECO climate is automatically acti-vated in the passenger compartment to helpreduce energy consumption.
NOTE
When the Pure drive mode is activated, set-tings for certain climate system and electricityconsuming functions are reduced. Some ofthese settings can be reset manually, but fullfunctionality will only be restored by leavingPure mode or adapting the Individual drivemode to full climate system functionality.
If condensation forms on the windows, tap themax defroster button, which will function normally.
AWD
Improves the vehicle's traction and handlingby increasing all-wheel drive.
This drive mode locks the vehicle in all-wheeldrive. An optimal distribution between front andrear axle torque helps provide the best possiblecontrol, stability and traction, e.g. on slipperyroads or when towing a heavy trailer or anothervehicle. The AWD drive mode is always availableregardless of the hybrid battery's charge status.
Both the combustion engine and the electricmotor are engaged to enable all-wheel drive,which results in higher fuel consumption.
In the other drive modes, the vehicle automati-cally adapts the need for all-wheel drive accord-ing to the road surface, and can activate the elec-tric motor or start the combustion engine as nee-ded.
POWER
Power mode is designed to provide sportierdriving characteristics and a faster accelera-tion response.
This drive mode maximizes the combined powerfrom the combustion engine and the electricmotor by providing power to both the front andrear wheels. Gear shifting will be faster and moredistinct and the transmission will prioritize gearswith a higher traction force. Steering response isfaster and suspension is stiffer.
Both the combustion engine and the electricmotor are engaged to enable all-wheel drive,which results in higher fuel consumption.
This drive mode is optimized for maximum per-formance and throttle response. It changes thethrottle response, gear shifting program andturbo boost system. Chassis settings and steer-ing and brake response are also optimized. ThePower drive mode is always available regardlessof the hybrid battery's charge status.
INDIVIDUAL
Customizes drive mode to personal preferen-ces.
Select one of the drive modes as a basis andadjust the settings to achieve your preferred driv-ing characteristics. These settings will be storedin your driver profile.
Individual drive mode is only available if it hasbeen activated in the center display.

WARNING
Carbon monoxide is a poisonous, colorless,and odorless gas. It is present in all exhaustgases. If you ever smell exhaust fumes insidethe vehicle, make sure the passenger com-partment is ventilated, and immediately returnthe vehicle to a trained and qualified Volvoservice technician for correction.
Demanding driving
In demanding driving conditions, such as whentowing a trailer or driving in hot weather or forprolonged periods at high altitudes, it may be a
good idea to switch to a higher-octane fuel (AKI5
91 or higher) or to switch to another brand ofgasoline in order to fully utilize the vehicle'sengine capacity and optimize traction.

Three-way catalytic converter
Keep your engine properly tuned. Certainengine malfunctions, particularly involving theelectrical, fuel or distributor ignition systems,may cause unusually high three-way catalyticconverter temperatures. Do not continue tooperate your vehicle if you detect enginemisfire, noticeable loss of power or otherunusual operating conditions, such as engineoverheating or backfiring. A properly tunedengine will help avoid malfunctions thatcould damage the three-way catalytic con-verter.
Do not park your vehicle over combustiblematerials, such as grass or leaves, which cancome into contact with the hot exhaust sys-tem and cause such materials to ignite undercertain wind and weather conditions.
Excessive starter cranking (in excess of oneminute), or an intermittently firing or floodedengine can cause three-way catalytic con-verter or exhaust system overheating.
Remember that tampering or unauthorizedmodifications to the engine, the Engine Con-trol Module, or the vehicle may be illegal andcan cause three-way catalytic converter orexhaust system overheating. This includes:altering fuel injection settings or compo-nents, altering emission system components
or location or removing components, and/orrepeated use of leaded fuel.
NOTE
Unleaded fuel is required for vehicles withthree-way catalytic converters.
Heated oxygen sensors
The heated oxygen sensors monitor the oxygencontent of the exhaust gases. Readings are fedinto a control module that continuously monitorsengine functions and controls fuel injection. Theratio of fuel to air into the engine is continuouslyadjusted for efficient combustion to help reduceharmful emissions.

If contact occurs, flush the affected areaimmediately with water. Obtain medicalhelp immediately if eyes are affected.
Never expose the battery to open flameor electric spark. Do not smoke near thebattery. Failure to follow the instructionsfor jump starting can lead to injury.

The vehicle cannot be started if the hybridbattery is discharged.

Towing using a towline
This section refers to one vehicle being towedbehind another using a towline.
Twin Engine vehicles may not be towed behindanother vehicle due to the risk of damage to theelectric motor. The vehicle must be lifted onto atow truck and transported with all four wheels onthe bed or lifting platform of the truck (no wheelsmay touch the road).
Towing another vehicle
Towing another vehicle requires a lot of power -use the AWD drive mode. This helps charge thehybrid battery and improve the vehicle's drivingand roadholding characteristics.
Before towing another vehicle, check applicablespeed limit regulations.
Jump starting
Do not tow the vehicle to start the engine. Use anauxiliary battery if the start battery's charge levelis so low that the engine cannot be started.
CAUTION
Attempts to tow-start the vehicle could causedamage to the electrical drive motor andthree-way catalytic converter.

Attaching and removing the towingeyelet
Use the towing eyelet to tow another vehicle.Screw the towing eyelet securely into place inthe threaded outlet behind the cover on theright-hand side of the rear bumper.
NOTE
If the vehicle is equipped with a towbar, thereis no rear attachment for the towing eye.
Attaching the towing eyelet
Take out the towing eyelet, which is stored ina foam block under the floor in the cargo
compartment7.
Remove the cover - press the marker withyour finger while prying open the oppositeside/corner open with a coin or similar.
> The cover turns along its center line andcan then be removed.
3.Screw in the towing eyelet until it reaches itsstop.
Fasten the eyelet securing by, for example,inserting a lug wrench* through it and usingthis as a lever.
CAUTION
It is important that the towing eye is screwedin securely as far as possible.
Removing the towing eyelet
–Unscrew the towing eyelet after use andreturn it to its storage location in the foamblock.
Replace the cover on the bumper.

Recovery
This section refers to transporting the vehiclewith a tow truck or similar vehicle.
Call a professional towing service for assistance.
In certain conditions, the towing eyelet can beused to pull the vehicle onto a flatbed tow truck.
CAUTION
Note that vehicles with Twin Engine mustalways be towed raised with all wheels on thetow truck.
For vehicles equipped with leveling control*:If the vehicle is equipped with pneumatic suspen-sion, this feature must be turned off before thevehicle is lifted onto a tow truck. Turning off thefunction in the center display.
1.Tap Settings in the Top view.
2. Tap My CarParking Brake andSuspension.
3.Select Disable Leveling Control.
The vehicle's location and ground clearancedetermine if it can be lifted onto a tow truck. Ifthe incline of the tow truck is too steep or if theground clearance under the vehicle is insufficient,attempting to pull it up may result in damage. Inthis case, the vehicle should only be lifted withthe tow truck's lifting equipment.
WARNING
No person or object should be behind the towtruck when the vehicle is lifted onto the bedof the truck.

When changing wheels
The wheels can be changed, e.g. to switch tosnow tires or spare tires. Follow the applicableinstructions for removing and installing thewheel.
Changing to tires of another dimension
Make sure that the tire dimension is approved foruse on the vehicle.
If you change to tires of another dimension, con-tact an authorized Volvo workshop to update thevehicle's software. A software update may benecessary when changing to tires of larger/smaller dimensions or when changing to or fromsnow tires.

Tools for e.g. towing or changing wheels areprovided in the vehicle's trunk.
The foam block under the cargo compartmentfloor contains the towing eyelet, the tire sealingsystem, the tool for removing plastic wheel boltcovers and the tool for removing the lockingwheel bolts.
If the vehicle is equipped with a spare wheel*14, ajack, lug wrench, and a package withdisposable gloves and a bag for the damagedwheel are also provided.

1.Turn on the vehicle's hazard warning flashersif a wheel change must be performed in anarea with traffic.
2.Apply the parking brake and put the gearselector in P.
For vehicles with Leveling Control*: If thevehicle is equipped with pneumatic suspen-sion, this must be switched off before thevehicle is lifted with the jack*.
3.Take out the jack*, lug wrench* and tool forremoving the plastic covers, which arestowed in the foam block.
Tool for removing the plastic covers on the wheel bolts.
4. Place chocks in front of and behind thewheels that are still on the ground. For exam-ple, use heavy wooden blocks or largestones.
5.Using the lug wrench*, screw the towing eyeinto place as far as possible according to theinstructions.
CAUTION
The towing eyelet must be screwed into thelug wrench* as far as possible.
6. Remove the plastic covers from the wheelbolts using the designated tool.
7. With the vehicle still on the ground, use thelug wrench/towing eye to loosen the wheelbolts ½-1 turn by pressing downward (coun-terclockwise).
8.When hoisting the vehicle, it is important thatthe jack* or garage lift arms are positionedon the designated points under the vehicle.The triangle markings on the plastic coverindicate where the jack attachment points/lifting points are located. There are two jackattachment points on each side of the vehi-cle. There is a groove for the jack at eachattachment point.
9. Position the jack under the attachment pointbeing used, ensuring that the surface is firm,flat and not slippery.

Determining the vehicle's permittedweight
Properly loading your vehicle will provide maxi-mum return of vehicle design performance.
Weight designations
Before loading your vehicle, familiarize yourselfwith the following terms for determining yourvehicle's weight ratings, with or without a trailer,from the vehicle's Federal/Canadian Motor Vehi-cle Safety Standards (FMVSS/CMVSS) label, andthe vehicle's tire information placard:
Curb weight
The weight of the vehicle including a full tank offuel and all standard equipment. It does notinclude passengers, cargo, or optional equipment.
Capacity weight
All weight added to the curb weight, includingcargo and optional equipment. When towing, tow-bar weight is also part of cargo weight.
Permissible axle weight
The maximum allowable weight that can be car-ried by a single axle (front or rear). These num-bers are shown on the Federal/Canadian MotorVehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS/CMVSS) label.The total load on each axle must never exceed itsmaximum permissible weight.
Gross vehicle weight (GVW)
The vehicle's curb weight + cargo + passengers.
Steps for Determining Correct Load
Limit
1. Locate the statement "the combined weightof occupants and cargo should never exceedXXX kg or XXX lbs." on your vehicle's plac-ard.
2. Determine the combined weight of the driverand passengers that will be riding in yourvehicle.
3. Subtract the combined weight of the driverand passengers from XXX kg or XXX lbs.
4. The resulting figure equals the availableamount of cargo and luggage load capacity.For example, if the "XXX" amount equals1400 lbs. and there will be five 150 lb. pas-sengers in your vehicle, the amount of availa-ble cargo and luggage load capacity is 650lbs. (1400 - 750 (5 × 150) = 650 lbs.)
5. Determine the combined weight of luggageand cargo being loaded on the vehicle. Thatweight may not safely exceed the availablecargo and luggage load capacity calculatedin Step 4.
6. If your vehicle will be towing a trailer, loadfrom your trailer will be transferred to yourvehicle. Consult this manual to determinehow this reduces the available cargo and lug-gage load capacity of your vehicle.

Folding down the armrest in the
rear seat*
The rear seat armrest* can be folded down forincreased comfort.
The armrest is locked in the raised position andneeds to be unlocked before it is folded down.The handle for unlocking the armrest is locateddirectly underneath the head restraint.
1. Grasp the handle and rotate it toward you tounlock the armrest.
2. When the handle is rotated to its maximumposition, the armrest is unlocked and can befolded down.
CAUTION
Before moving down the armrest, makesure to unlock it by rotating the handle. Donot pull the handle if the armrest is locked.
Make sure the armrest is securely lockedinto position after it is folded up.
Cargo compartment
Loads can be secured in the trunk to keep themin place while driving.
The folding* rear seat backrests can helpincrease the cargo capacity of the trunk. Loadanchoring eyelets and grocery bag holders areprovided to help secure objects in place.
If the vehicle is equipped with a temporary sparetire, this is secured to the cargo compartmentfloor under the cover. The towing eyelet and tiresealing system are located under the cargo com-partment floor.

Roof loads and load carriers
Volvo-developed load carriers are recommendedfor carrying loads on the roof of the vehicle.
Volvo load carriers are specially designed to helpprevent damage to your vehicle and help ensuremaximum safety while driving. Volvo load carriersare available from authorized Volvo retailers.
Carefully follow the installation instructions provi-ded with the load carriers.
Distribute the load evenly throughout theload carriers. Place heavier cargo at the bot-tom of the load.
Check periodically to ensure that the loadcarriers and load are properly secured.Secure the load firmly using tie straps orsimilar.
If the load is longer than the vehicle, such asa canoe or kayak, attach the towing eyelet inits front outlet and secure the tie straps in it.
The vehicle's wind resistance and fuel con-sumption increase with the size of the load.
Drive smoothly. Avoid rapid acceleration, hardbraking and fast cornering.
WARNING
The vehicle's center of gravity and drivingcharacteristics are altered by roof loads.
Follow the vehicle's specifications regardingweights and maximum permitted load.

Grocery bag holders
Grocery bag holders (hooks) help keep shop-ping bags in place and prevent them from fallingover and spilling their contents in the cargocompartment.
On the sides of the cargo compartment
The illustration is generic - details may vary according tovehicle model.
There is a grocery bag holder in the side panelon each side of the cargo compartment.
CAUTION
The grocery bag holders are only intended tohold weights up to 5 kg (11 lbs).
