WARNING
Adjust the steering wheel and ensure it locks into position before driving. Neveradjust the steering wheel while driving.
Steering wheel force can be adjusted with speed-dependent power steering. Steeringwheel force is adjusted according to the vehi-cle's speed to give the driver an enhancedsense of control and stability.

Park Assist front, rear and sides *
Park Assist behaves differently depending on which part of the vehicle is approaching anobstacle.
Front camera
The warning signal has a continuous tone when the obstacle is less than approx. 30 cm (1 ft) from thevehicle.
The Park Assist system's front sensors are automatically activated when the engine isstarted. They are active at speedsbelow 10 km/h (6 mph). The distance monitored extends approx. 80 cm (2.5 ft) in front of the vehicle.
NOTE
The Park Assist system is deactivated when the parking brake is used or when P
is selected on vehicles with automatictransmission.
CAUTION
When installing auxiliary lights: Make sure these do not obscure the sensors – theauxiliary lights could be perceived as anobstacle.
Back
The warning signal has a continuous tone when the obstacle is less than approx. 30 cm (1 ft) from thevehicle.
The rear sensors will be activated if the vehicle begins rolling backward or if reverse gear isengaged. The distance monitored extends approx. 1.5 meters (5 ft) behind the vehicle. The Park Assist system's rear sensors will be automatically deactivated if the vehicle isbacking up with a trailer connected to thevehicle's electrical system.
NOTE
When reversing with e.g. a trailer or bike carrier on the trailer hitch – without Volvooriginal trailer cables – the Parking Assistsystem may have to be turned off manuallyto prevent the sensors from reacting tothese.

Braking assist after a collision
In a collision in which the activation level is reached for the pyrotechnic seat belt tension-ers or airbags, or if a collision with a large ani-mal is detected, the vehicle's brakes will beautomatically activated. This function isintended to help prevent or reduce the effectsof any subsequent collision.
After a serious collision, it may no longer be possible to control and steer the vehicle. Inorder to avoid or mitigate a possible furthercollision with a vehicle or an object in the vehi-cle's path, the brake assist system is activatedautomatically to help stop the vehicle safely. If braking is not appropriate, e.g. if there is a risk of being hit by passing traffic, the drivercan override the system by depressing theaccelerator pedal. This function assumes that the brake system is intact after a collision.

Transmission
The transmission is part of the vehicle's drive- line (power transmission) between the engineand the drive wheels. The function of thetransmission is to change gears dependingon speed and power needs.
The vehicle has an 8-speed automatic trans- mission and an electric motor for rear-wheeldrive. The number of gears allows the engine'storque and power band to be effectively uti-lized. Two of the gears are overdrive gears thatsave fuel when driving at a constant enginespeed. Manual shifting is also possible. Theinstrument panel shows the gear currently inuse.

Automatic transmission
In vehicles with an automatic transmission, the system selects the gear so that drivingwill be as energy-efficient as possible. Thetransmission also has a manual mode.
Overview of gear selector and gear shift pattern in the instrument panel
The instrument panel shows which gear is cur- rently in use: R , N , D or B. P position is electric.
For manual shifting, the gear indicator in the instrument panel displays the gear currentlybeing used.

CAUTION
Check the operating temperature of the transmission to help avoid damage to anyof the drive system components. If there isa risk of overheating, a warning symbol willappear in the instrument panel and a textmessage will be displayed. Follow the rec-ommendations given.

Gear selector positions for automatic transmissions
With an automatic transmission, a suitable gear is selected automatically according tocurrent speed and power requirements.
Selecting gearsThe gear selector is a shift-by-wire selector, where shifting is done electronically instead ofmechanically. This makes shifting easier andthe gear positions more distinct.

Change gear position by pushing the spring- loaded gear selector forward or rearward, or tothe side for manual shifting.

Brake position in instrument panel overview.
From the B position, it is possible to shift
manually. B can be selected at any time while
driving. When the accelerator pedal is released, the electric motor brakes the vehicleand the hybrid battery is recharged at thesame time. This offers additional opportunitiesto recharge the hybrid battery, since the bat-tery is charged even when the brake pedal isnot depressed. Select brake by moving the gear selector rear- ward from the D position. The currently
selected gear will be displayed in the instru-ment panel.
Push the gear selector to the right toward"
+ " (plus) and release to shift up one gear.
Push the gear selector to the left toward"
– " (minus) and release to shift down one
gear.
Push the gear selector rearward to returnto
D mode.
For smooth shifting and engine performance,the transmission will shift down automaticallyif the vehicle's speed becomes too low for theselected gear.

The steering wheel paddles are a supplement to the gear selector and make it possible toshift manually without removing your handsfrom the steering wheel.

–Pull one of the paddles toward the steer- ing wheel.

ChangeTo shift one gear:
–Pull one of the paddles toward the steer- ing wheel and then release.As long as the engine speed (rpm) is withinthe permissible range for the selected gear, agear shift will take place each time a paddle ispulled. After each gear shift, a number indicat-ing the current gear will be displayed in theinstrument panel.

–Deactivate the paddles by pulling the right paddle ( +) toward the steering wheel and
holding it until the number of the currentgear is no longer displayed in the instru-ment panel.
> The transmission will revert to gear D
or B depending on which gear was
selected before the paddles were acti- vated.
Automatic deactivation
In gear position D, the steering wheel paddles
are deactivated after a short period of time if they are not used. The number of the currentgear will no longer be displayed in the instru-ment panel. In gear position B, the paddles will not acti-
vate automatically.

P
To move the gear selector from P to another
gear, the brake pedal must be depressed and the ignition in mode II.
From Neutral - N
If the gear selector is in N and the vehicle has
been stationary for at least 3 seconds (with or without the engine running), the gear selectorwill be locked in that position. To move the gear selector from N to another
gear, the brake pedal must be depressed and the ignition in mode II.
Messages in the instrument panelIf the gear selector is locked in position, amessage will appear in the instrument panel, e.g.

There is no mechanical shiftlock function.

Pure
Uses the electric motor only, with the low- est possible energy consumption and car-bon dioxide emissions.
This drive mode prioritizes the use of thehybrid battery. Certain climate system func-tions are reduced to provide the longest dis-tance using only electricity.
Pure mode is available when the hybrid bat-
tery is sufficiently charged. Even in Puremode, the combustion engine will start if the charge level in the battery gets too low. Thecombustion engine will also start
if the vehicle's speed goes above125 km/h (78 mph)
if the driver requests more power than theelectric motor can provide
if factors such as cold weather affect thesystem or components.
This drive mode is adapted for the longestpossible driving distance with electric propul-sion and is primarily intended for use in city driving.
Pure helps provide the lowest possi-
ble consumption even when the hybrid battery is fully discharged. ECO climate is activated tocontrol the climate in the passenger compart-ment, and in slippery road conditions slightlymore wheel spin may be permitted before all-wheel drive is automatically activated.
ECO Climate
In Pure mode, ECO climate is automatically
activated in the passenger compartment to help reduce energy consumption.
NOTE
When the Pure drive mode is activated,
settings for certain climate system and electricity consuming functions arereduced. Some of these settings can bereset manually, but full functionality will only be restored by leaving
Pure mode or
adapting the Individual drive mode to full
climate system functionality.
If condensation forms on the windows, tap the max defroster button, which will function nor-mally.
Constant AWD
Improves the vehicle's traction and han- dling by increasing all-wheel drive.
This drive mode locks the vehicle in all-wheeldrive. An adapted distribution between frontand rear axle torque provides effective control,stability and traction, e.g. on slippery roads orwhen towing a heavy trailer or another vehicle. The
Constant AWD drive mode is always
available regardless of the hybrid battery's charge status. Both the combustion engine and the electricmotor are engaged to enable all-wheel drive,which results in higher fuel consumption. In the other drive modes, the vehicle automati- cally adapts the need for all-wheel driveaccording to the road surface, and can acti-vate the electric motor or start the combustionengine as needed.
Power

The vehicle gets sportier driving characte- ristics and a faster acceleration response.
This drive mode adapts the combined powerfrom the combustion engine and the electricmotor by providing power to both the frontand rear wheels. Gear shifting will be fasterand more distinct and the transmission willprioritize gears with a higher traction force.Steering response is faster and suspension isstiffer. Both the combustion engine and the electric motor are engaged to enable all-wheel drive,which results in higher fuel consumption.

Removing a wheel Wheel changes must always be carried out correctly. The following instructions showhow to remove a wheel and what is impor-tant to keep in mind.
CAUTION
When not in use, the jack
* should be
kept in its storage compartment under the cargo compartment floor.
The jack provided with your vehicle isintended to be used only in temporarysituations such as changing wheels inthe event of a flat tire. Only the jackthat came with your particular modelshould be used to lift the vehicle. If thevehicle needs to be lifted more fre-quently or for a prolonged period, usinga garage jack or hoist is recommended.Always follow this device's instructionsfor use.
WARNING
Apply the parking brake and put the gear selector in the Park (
P) position.
Block the wheels standing on theground, use rigid wooden blocks orlarge stones.
Check that the jack is not damaged,the threads are properly lubricated andit is free from dirt.
Be sure the jack is on a firm, level, non-slippery surface and that it is uprightand not leaning.
The jack must correctly engage in thejack attachment.
No objects should be placed betweenthe base of the jack and the ground, orbetween the jack and the attachmentbar on the vehicle.
Never let anyone remain in the vehiclewhen it is raised on a jack.
If a tire must be changed near passingtraffic, make sure all passengers moveto a safe location.
Use a jack intended for the vehiclewhen changing a tire. For any otherjob, use stands to support the vehicle.
Never crawl under or allow any part ofyour body to be extended under a vehi-cle supported by a jack. 1. Turn on the vehicle's hazard warning
flashers if a wheel change must be per-formed in an area with traffic.
2. Apply the parking brake and put the gear selector in P, or first gear if the vehicle has
a manual transmission. For vehicles with
Leveling Control* : If the
vehicle is equipped with pneumatic sus- pension, this must be switched off before the vehicle is lifted with the jack *.
3. Take out the jack *, lug wrench * and tool for
removing the plastic covers, which are stowed in the foam block.

4. Place chocks in front of and behind the wheels that are still on the ground. For example, use heavy wooden blocks orlarge stones.
