Occupant safety reminders
How safely you drive doesn't depend on how old you are but rather on:
• How well you see.
• Your ability to concentrate.
• How quickly you make decisions understress to avoid an accident.
The following suggestions are intended to helpyou cope with the ever changing traffic environ-ment.
• Never drink and drive.
• If you are taking any medication, consult yourphysician about its potential effects on your driving abilities.
• Take a driver-retraining course.
• Have your eyes checked regularly.
• Keep your windshield and headlights clean.
• Replace wiper blades when they start to leave streaks.
• Take into account the traffic, road, andweather conditions, particularly with regard tostopping distance.
• Never send text messages while driving.
• Refrain from using or minimize the use of acell phone while driving.Related information

Reporting safety defects
The following information will help you report any perceived safety-related defects in your vehicle.
Reporting safety defects in the U.S.
If you believe that your vehicle has a defect which could cause a crash orcould cause injury or death, you shouldimmediately inform the National High-way Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) in addition to notifying VolvoCar USA, LLC. If NHTSA receives simi-lar complaints, it may open an investi-gation, and if it finds that a safetydefect exists in a group of vehicles, itmay order a recall and remedy cam-paign. However, NHTSA cannotbecome involved in individual problemsbetween you, your retailer, or Volvo CarUSA, LLC. To contact NHTSA, you mayeither call the Auto Safety Hotline toll-free at 1-888-327-4236(TTY: 1-800-424-9153) or write to: NHTSA, U.S. Department of Transpor-tation, Washington D.C. 20590.

InterferenceElectromagnetic fields or obstructing objects may interfere with the remote key's functions for key- less start and keyless locking and unlocking *.
NOTE
Avoid storing the remote control key near metal objects or electronic devices, e.g. cellphones, tablets, laptops or chargers – pref-erably no closer than 10-15 cm (4-6 in.).
If you experience interference, use the remote key's detachable blade to unlock the vehicle andplace the remote key in the backup key reader inthe tunnel console cup holder to disarm thealarm.
NOTE
When the remote control key is placed in the cup holder, make sure that no other vehiclekeys, metal objects or electronic devices (e.g.cell phones, tablets, laptops or chargers) arefound in the cup holder. Multiple vehicle keysclose to each other in the cup holder can dis-rupt their functionality.

Locking and unlocking using theremote key
All doors, tailgate and fuel filler door can be locked and unlocked simultaneously using thebuttons on the remote key.

. If any of the other doors or
the tailgate are open, they will be locked and the alarm will be armed once they are closed.
NOTE
Be aware of the risk of locking the Key Tag in the vehicle. If the remote key/Key Tag is leftin the vehicle, it will be deactivated when thevehicle is locked and the alarm set usinganother valid key. The deactivated key will be reactivated when the vehicle is unlocked.
Locking when the tailgate is open
NOTE
If the vehicle is locked and the tailgate is still open, make sure that the remote key is notleft in the cargo compartment when the tail-gate is closed and the entire vehicle is locked 7
.
Unlocking with remote key
–Press the button on the remote key to
unlock.
Automatic relockingIf none of the doors or tailgate are opened within two minutes after being unlocked, they will auto-matically relock. This function reduces the risk ofinadvertently leaving the vehicle unlocked.
Remote key not working
NOTE
Move closer to the vehicle and try to unlock it again.
If the remote key is not working to lock or unlock the vehicle, its battery may be discharged. Usethe detachable key blade to lock/unlock the driv-er's door instead.

Settings for remote and inside doorunlock
Several different sequences are available for
remote unlocking.
1. Tap Settings in the center display's Top
view.
2. Tap
My CarLockingRemote and
Interior Unlock.
3. Select alternative:
•
All Doors
- unlocks all doors at the same time.
•
Single Door
- unlocks the driver's door. Press the remote key unlock button twice to unlock all doors.
The settings made here also affect central lock-ing using the inside door handle.

If the vehicle is equipped with keyless locking/unlocking, all side doors must be closed.

236 For keyless use, a remote key or the Key Tag must be within the shaded areas shown in theillustration, i.e. a semicircle with a radius ofapprox. 1.5 meter (5 feet) along the sides of thevehicle or approx. 1 meter (3 feet) from the tail-gate.
NOTE
The functions of the remote control key can be disrupted by ambient radio waves, build-ings, topographical conditions, etc. The vehi-cle can always be locked/unlocked using thekey blade.
If the remote key is removed from the vehicle
If the remote key is removed from the vehicle while the engine is running, the warning message
Vehicle key not
found Removed from vehicle will be
displayed in the instrument panel and an audible signal will sound when the last door is closed.
The message will disappear when the key is returned to the vehicle and the O button on the
right-side steering wheel keypad is pressed or when the last door is closed again.

Replacing the remote key's battery
The battery in the remote key must be replaced when it is discharged.
NOTE
All batteries have a limited service life and must eventually be replaced (does not applyfor Key Tag). The battery's service life variesdepending on how often the vehicle/key isused.
The remote key battery should be replaced if:
the information symbol illuminates and the message
Vehicle key bat. low

and/or
• the locks do not react after several attempts to lock or unlock the vehicle using theremote key within approx. 20 meter (65 feet)from the vehicle.
NOTE
Move closer to the vehicle and try to unlock it again.

The door can be opened from both the out- side and the inside.
The door cannot be opened from the outside. To return to position A, open the door usingthe inside door handle.
The doors can also be unlocked by pressing theunlock button on the remote key or the centrallock button in the driver's door.
NOTE
• The door's lock controls only lock that specific door, not all doors simultane-ously.
• A manually locked rear door with an acti-vated manual or electric child safety lockcannot be opened from either the outsideor inside of the vehicle. A rear doorlocked in this way can only be unlockedusing the remote key or the centralunlocking button.

Electronic immobilizer
The electronic immobilizer is a start inhibitor that helps prevent the vehicle from being started byan unauthorized person.
The vehicle can only be started with the right remote key. The following instrument panel error messages are related to the electronic immobilizer:
